Just want to say thank you for the great videos you put out. You don't realize what your videos do for people. I used to build all kinds of radicals toys. But I got cancer and I had to stop building toys and now I'm at the point that there is nothing anyone can do for me but try to make me comfortable and if it wasn't for your videos and other awesome people just like you that put this videos out. My last few months would have been alot worse for me. I don't have much time left but what I do will be spent with family and friends and your videos thanks for helping me be able to be strong when I really wasn't. God bless you and all the fab rats family.

Spray foam guy and loyal sub here. Try misting with water from a spray bottle. That may kick off better curing. To clean out the shmoo, use gloves and acetone. It will dissolve the uncured chemicals. Do NOT use mountain dew on the foam. It will cause a caustic reaction and send it into the danger zone!!😂😂😂

That gooey spray foam could expel hazardous fumes into the cab, if the correct mix percentages were not reached during installation. The only fix I'm aware of is to remove it all, and start over. There's plenty of documentation of people getting very sick from being exposed to those fumes,, especially if it gets warmed up. The canisters need to be within a certain temperature range during installation, to insure a correct mix. Love your content and delivery. Much respect.

Foam: ... a few possible causes ... Seam Sealer( or any High VOC Caulking) will stop foam from curing. Not shaking the can enough before use will make it not cure. Old cans (over a year old) tend not to cure properly. Mixing brands can cause reactions and it may not cure. Another Great episode! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦

It’s in an air tight door so it couldn’t off gas and harden
@coachgeo

@@jayroberts636 Seems it it is not gas off issue... is is air moisture in air that is the issue. The spray can style foam mixes requires typical moisture found in surrounding air to mix with the formula. It needed to complete the hardening stage. Lot of discussion/videos on this in the van life building forums and videos.

Foam cures with moisture. That can be from the air... Or in your case with a sealed environment that used up all of its moisture. Anytime you spray foam in a sealed environment get yourself a squirt bottle and add some moisturizer while you were spraying. You can try adding water but at this point I think you are left with a learning experience 🤣 next time remember squirt bottle while you are spraying.

You guys always do such a good job of innovating. The Sub is easy, just calculate the inside dimension of the Sub Box and make another one that is longer and flatter so it maintains the same volume and fits closer to the back of the cab and lower so you don't bump your arm on it. It could actually run behind the passenger seat. Half or 3/4 inch plywood would be tougher than MDF that most of them are made of. You are going to be knocking around quite a bit so it needs to be strong. Be well and have fun with it. BTW, I wear my FabRats T-shirt proudly.

@davidgates1122

You also can't just put a huge glob in one place. It cures from the outside in, and once you get a little over an inch of the outer portion cured, it acts as a moisture barrier, preventing the inner portion from curing. You have to apply it in layers, letting it cure between applications. When you hear the nightmare stories about people having problems with spray foam that was installed in their house, it is usually caused by poorly trained (or untrained) contractors taking shortcuts trying to apply the foam in a single layer that is 4 inches or more in thickness.

To share a stuck truck story. My dad is a trucker and at one point the company he worked for was hauling gravel to a local monastery for a construction project they were doing. My dad hauled several loads to them and one of his coworkers who went by the handle Big D was also hauling to them. My dad left to go grab another load as Big D was coming in to dump one up on the hill where the monastery is located. My dad got about half way to the quarry when he got a call from Big D because he was freaked out because he got stuck in the mud and the Russian Orthodox monks were gathered around chanting, trying to pray the truck out the mud. My dad who is also a Baptist preacher turned around and went and pulled him out and then told us about it while laughing as soon as he came home.

25:10 I often have the exact same problem when I try to apply expanding-foam insulation to seal around the edges of windows, and I have to tape off the side/bottom perimeter-channels (the top portion correctly sits in its channel with gravity) so that the foam will stay in place till it puffs and solidifies. Since the tape tends to seal out the air, though, the foam doesn't always expand, dry, and/or set up properly, and instead forms a gooey lumpy gaps-and-hollows-filled mess like you have inside your door there. :P

If that foam is urethane based it's probably curing so slow because the desert you live in has such low humidity. It will cure on the moisture in even the dry Utah air... eventually. We have the same problem here in Montana. Try misting some water on it from a spray bottle to speed it up.
