I love seeing a "real home", it's refreshing. Great job and thank you for the motivation.

Thank you! I think it’s easier to get motivation from something realistic

Our daughter will donate items she is not using to other little girls. She was in foster care before we adopted her and she knows what it is like to go without. So whenever I tell her that we are seeing what can be donated to other girls she is motivated to clear out her out grown clothing, bags and toys. When she dropped off her American Girl dolls and everything that went with them, we neatly bagged and labeled everything so the little girls would have all the tiny pieces. Our best times to donate are during spring cleaning, and October for Christmas gift shoppers.

I don’t mean to laugh at your pain…… but, I so did….. Legos are the worst to step, or kneel on, even now….. when my teen or husband looses track of one from a kit they are building! I also commend you for actually letting your child use and play with Play-Doh! My house was always filled with other children, because I was not afraid of Play-Doh and allowed it….. I even encouraged it, and often made homemade Play-Doh. We used cookie cutters, potato head pieces, recycled items to flatten and roll it out….. you name it we played! No regrets! 👍🏻❤️✌🏼

I love seeing her have fun and she loves the messy stuff! I’m happy to let her just be a kid because it doesn’t last long. Play -Doh, noodle bin, slime, sand, water, you name it! I also enjoy playing with them too 🤣

we got rid of the train table and kept the tracks and trains. the kids still love playing with it on the floor. takes up so much less space and doesn't collect clutter.

The train table is not my favorite thing lol. We originally got it because we also used it for playing with sand on.

We did this too, they ended up making much more elaborate tracks that I had to step over but they loved it!

Thank you for the feedback! I wasn't going to include the garbage/recycle clean up at the end so this was great feedback! I am so happy to have you join my RU-vid family!

Yes! You can do it! I am so happy you are getting some decluttering done. I am sure that you will be motivated to tackle that closet soon! The bigger projects need some mental processing before you can jump into them. You will get in there when you are ready 💛

At what age will your child be expected to put stuff where it belongs? I started making my children put things away after they started Kindergarten, but I had to go over and help with the sorting every so often. I put pictures or drawings on the front of bins and switched if the size had to change

I love the picture! I also had them on our bins but I find with trying to rotate toys I couldn’t keep up. To be honest it is something that has gotten away from me. She will (usually) pick up her toys if I ask her right away and I will help but I have not made it a habit. I am trying to make it a priority but for some reason that change for us in hard 😅 she is only 3 so I pick my battles

I personally kept toys of the same kind in bins. I also always kept all books and creative things always available. I only allowed clutter in the playroom. I helped pickup with a basket every night. So by the time she hit preschool she knew how to pick up after herself. I carried her on my hip when I did the picking up when she was little. Today my young adult works, goes to school, volunteers, cooks and cleans for herself like she learned from a very young age. I made it fun playing favorite music and or singing as we did it. So its habit now. Its never too early to help cultivate what will help a child learn to live well from a early age imho. All I have to prove it is my own life and my child’s.
