Hello, you would distribute the cash or assets from the account. Assets would require a fair market valuation to determine the dollar basis of the distribution. If withdrawals occurs prior to 59 ½ you are subject to a 10% penalty and ordinary income taxes.

I am 64 and retired, but I get income from different investments sources. What choices do I have if I don't have a W-2 income?

Hello, If no W-2 income, providing you have existing retirement accounts, you likely can rollover or transfer into a Self-Directed IRA. You just would not be able to make additional out-of-pocket contributions if you don’t have earned income, meaning income you are paying taxes on and payroll taxes, such as medicare and social security tax.
