😅He is a renowned Historian and a man of integrity. The people covering the wealthy entitled people from their crimes are just as guilty. They should think on that. I’m sure there is worse than the abuse but also murder where there is fear of young people recognising and telling people of the abuse they have suffered. Imagine they cannot go to police because they shelve anything to do with elites, politicians and royals being uncovered as pedophiles. Also personalities from tv and film. It is right across the board. It will all be uncovered in due course, the truth will out.

I agree! I have read some of Andrew Lownie’s books, very interesting reads, and for his academic qualifications, not a bit dry. I recommend them. And Andrew interviewing does his homework which makes for an interesting interview.

I lived on Portland when Andrew was doing a stint there, and I had a Saturday night job in a pub near the Naval base. None of the RN base staff who came into the pub had a good word to say about Andrew, unlike brother Charles, who had been there a few years earlier, who they described as "a good bloke"

If Prince Andrew had A Sex thing with the 17 Yr old here in London why is he said to have committed an offence because here in UK its legal at 16 yrs old. I'm no supporter of the IRA. They had a policy of not targeting royalty. Apparently, however, they made an exception of Mountbatten because of his fondness of local Irish children. The irish government and guarda knew about it but turned a blind eye to it. The IRA executed him for his behaviour with Irish children.

I was a civil servant from 1991 until 2012. Our paper files were comprehensive but with computerisation the filing became very inconsistent. Some working files were stored on “personal drives” on the departmental system and some made it to the “shared drives” but not always and the filing titles weren’t always meaningful or consistent. Lots of decisions made by email exchanges won’t have been transferred to the filing system. When you moved jobs it was a personal responsibility to tidy up your emails and files but work loads didn’t make it easy to do. I do think there will be significant gaps in records for future historians.

I’m 60yrs old now and I remember hearing about Mountbatten being a P as a little girl , of course I didn’t understand then what the adult words meant but it stick with me because of the reactions to his death and what people said.

At the end of the day, we're not going to know the full details, it's a guessing game and assumption. I love Andrew Lownie, thank you for having him on. The 1st time I ever saw him was when he was on your other channel talking about Mountbatten, which I had read about in the past few years, so that caught my attention and so glad I watched. I also searched him on YT and found his podcast Scandal Mongers, which I equally love.

I have read horrific sexual things about aour Mount Baton and his wife, who it serms was hyper sexual and had numerous affairs. Neither he or his wife seemed to care about one another's affairs. The Kincora Scandal was written regarding the sexual abuse of vulnerable children with members of all strata in society were the abusers. Jeffrey Donaldson of the DUP has been charged with historic sexual offences. Paedophiles in the IRA were covered up during the war in the North. Sentencing here is comical mostly 4-5 years in southern Ireland. They've even got their own prison ffs!
This is a fascinating interview. I love Lownie's work. I am a professional archivist in Australia (I don't work in govt archives), so I find the discussion of retention, disposal, closure, access provisions across various departments very interesting. One note: librarians catalogue, indexers index, but archivists arrange & describe. Arrangement & Description (A&D) is one of the most important skills of an experienced archivist, knowing what to include and what not to include in the description field, for future access & retrieval. Description of a file or volume needs to provide enough detail but not too much, and just the right kind of detail on the right topics, to aid retrieval. Fields have specific character lengths so every word matters. You need to be aware of what researchers might want to search on. The newest CMS systems have more free fields which make a huge difference but it all depends upon the description, which might have been done decades ago at the time of accession. There is often little time available to update or improve description. Also, to describe to item level (file, volume, image) is so time consuming that govt archives often have hundreds of years of A&D backlog. So the description might be at a higher level, and therefore less specific. Another highly developed skill is how to determine access directions, which requires a lot of contextual understandings, combined with the original directions issued by the records creator. Archival records are all unique and require specific individual description, whereas published works are catalogued against an existing cataloguing system (Dewey, Library of Congress). The two processes bear no relationship to each other. Some archival websites will refer to their finding aids, such as a Content Management System (CMS), as a catalogue, as a sop to the public who don't understand the vast difference between libraries and archives. Sadly this just perpetuates the misunderstandings. But amongst archivists, the use of the word 'cataloguing' makes us grind our teeth!!

I did do a lot of research in to the alleged Kamloops incident that is said to have taken place on 10/10/1964. The symbology and gematria of the date could be significant. However, there is one thing I discovered during my research that throws the entire story. That is that QE & PP were in Ontario during this time, and thousands of miles away from British Columbia. For that reason alone, I find the story by Kevin Arnett not credible at all.
Native children from Kamloops. There was a case pending in the international Criminal Court against QE2 and she banned the Canadian passport of the person who lodged the complaint. Andrew check that out.
