My mom turned her house into an Airbnb, but she only let people with clean records and who were in good standing with Airbnb to stay there. As far as I know, she has had zero issues with squatters, and she only had to kick out one guest for breaking the “no partying” rule she explicitly stated in the Airbnb contract. Excessive? Perhaps. But my mom’s a real estate agent, and she takes zero chances

@@AW00047 The US is super peaceful and has little to no issues outside of large cities. Get a large amount of people together and people go insane. Honestly if you take out Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Flint, and maybe Portland...crime goes down significantly when you take away those cities.

Surprisingly those laws are originally from the United Kingdom. And early America adopted those same squatter laws which we still have to do this day.

I’d rather live with that nasty lady than with bed bugs. Just to give a little perspective. I’d even sleep in the same room as her. The Sleep deprivation is insane. I slept outside many cold nights. If you ever get a problem with bed bugs, get some shipping tape and encircle the mattress and wrap the sides of your bed in it so they can’t climb up. It works. Was the only way I got any sleep. They are gone now, but if someone lets them get bad, they can dig in to them for years. In their belongings, purse, shoes, it’s MAD.

You gotta get special people to come In to heat the house up really hot, hot enough to kill the bugs. Or you can cover everything with food grade diatomaceous earth and that can kill them too but like I said they can and will hide out and survive for months without eating. They are literal vampires

SJC has a few 9 hour videos on his RU-vid channel of the cleanup and him sleeping there and standing guard for Mary at the house in case she returns. @@nicholas-dv1mg I saw that, but they really aren't doing anything preventative for an Airbnb. They gave her a key to begin with, that's the problem. Next Airbnb renter that turns out to be an insane squatter will also keep the key. That doesn't mean installing electronic only deadbolts, as you always want a keyed backup. There are products and installation techniques that will let his sister continue to get income from guests without compromising her access control.

@@Pattty. It's not their responsibility. They book stays through Airbnb. Airbnb should be making sure clients are reputable. They're not renting. However, all of this is a very easy fix with the right hardware

Well. If you make an Airbnb, just make it so that the lights do not turn off or on by choice. Its on a timer. If they choose to stay for too long (squatting) they permanently stay on. Install speakers in the walls, at locations hard to damage and let them run with a constant hrz. Keep the lights on a very white brightness and a high lumen value so that it feels like the sun when on. Shutters on Windows are controlled by both firealarms and can be shut for "safety reasons". Meaning there will not be normal daylight inside if it is deemed unsafe. The bed is normal unless it requires "maintenance cleaning" which means it will always be slanted, making it impossible to sleep comfortable. Mechanically controlled with hydrolics, steel frame so they dont get damage easy. If none of the safety features are enabled, its a decent room and place to stay. If you squat, welcome to hell.

They are abusing laws meant to protect actual tenants. That's what makes it even worse. These laws are meant to protect an honest tenant from being removed from their homes on a moments notice. It's vermin like Mary that find loopholes and abuse the legal system to benefit themselves at the cost of everybody else. Fucking disgusting.

It’s an antiquated law from the 1800s when people were settling the west. If a dude came across an unoccupied cabin and stayed in it for a week or two, both the cabin and its acreage would then belong to the guy. This was because the mortality rate during westward expansion was so high, but there wasn’t enough infrastructure to keep good records of who owned what. Since then, the laws have not been updated
