The Revel Rail is a long travel enduro mountain bike with 27.5” wheels. With 165mm of rear travel and the Canfield Balance Formula suspension platform, the Revel Rail can handle just about everything on the mountain. From steep and technical climbs to bike park laps for days, the Rail is a dream for riders that love to jump, slash, and pop over every obstacle on the trail. Although only a year old, Revel Bikes has proven that their bikes can go toe-toe with the big dogs in the mountain bike industry. We reviewed the Rascal a few months ago and now Jeff is back to review the Revel Rail!

Personally...I prefer 27.5. Here’s a question...Jeff, have you ever thought about Spot as a bike brand? I’d call them similar to Revel...unnaturally good climbing for an enduro bike (the Rollik, that is). They have some beef in their personnel...a patented linkage...etc. They’ve got a short-travel XC...a mid-travel 29er...and a longer travel (150mm) 27.5. Not sure if you guys talk about brands you don’t sell but I’d love your impressions of Spot bikes if you’ve ever ridden them.

Check out the reaction from Spots president on the singletrack samplers video from a few years back... I've heard of a bunch of their frames cracking and not being warrantied due to poor customer service.

I was a 26" guy who now rides 27.5" for the feel I like. I have been on a SB75 for 6 or so years now. I tested 29 and 27.5 bike of all sorts when I bought the SB75. I just couldn't find a 29er at the time that had the playful feel I like. That said there are several I have ridden in the last couple of years that I would love to have. So I guess you can put me down for both!

@MrSatchelpack
@MrSatchelpack 4 года назад
@@skiboot1 How honest is the comparison, though? There are so many factors that could make a 29 more playful like geometry, weight, and suspension setup. I come from bmx and you can't get more playful than a "little kid's" bike but I've also ridden old school builds that were a chore to do anything with for a bmx. Even a simple shock change/tune can make a bike feel poppy-er. That being said, I, myself, am trying to decide if roll-over capability of a 29" is worth any perceived disadvantages. Most of us don't have the setup to do a true side-by-side comparison, unfortunately.

I've spent WAY too much time trying to decide between 27.5 & 29. After hours and hours of research I've come to the conclusion that with new bikes it really doesn't matter. A 27.5 wheel with a plus tire is almost the same diameter as a 29 anyway. I ended up ordering a Marin Alpine Trail 7 (long travel 29er). I cant wait!!!

@@mathewmccabe2658 I wrote the whole blog article, so check that out, but in short, the Rail with CBF really has a great all-around feel, keeps traction on climbs while in a comfortable position, and can hit chunky trails or flow trails all day long. For a 27.5 long travel bike, it's a great all arounder, Id say as far as a comparison it's similar to the Bronson/Nomad, feels like a Bronson but can keep up with the Nomad. Hard to beat CBF suspension no matter the platform it's on!

I'm in the 27.5 crowd. What would be awesome, would be a comparison to maybe a Capra. Especially in regards to climbing prowess. I know you guys don't have super easy access to that, but you aren't terribly far from the YT Mill. Thinking it could be done.🤷‍♂️ Anyway, another great video. This bike is on my dream list to replace my 2017 YT Jeffsy 27 that I've upgraded extensively. Thinking frame only option and transferring my parts. Quadiem brakes with 220f/200r rotors, x2 230x65 shock, 36 Grip2, Onyx in Stans flow ex rear, P321in flow mk3 front, x01 eagle shift, gx eagle derailleur, ethirteen cassette, turbine crank with OneUp switch elliptical 30t, turbine stem with next r bars, OneUp 210 post(assuming rail is 31.6 post). All in all, I have a solid component spec to transfer over to another 27.5 frame. But I can buy an entire Capra for the price of Revel frame, so... is it that much better? Or would I just be paying for dentist status?

27.5 my preference I've never owned a 27.5 or even ridden one... my opinion is based on coming from a 26... I bought Fuel Ex 29er in January and the wheels are just a bit too big and awkward as well too much lateral flex but that is likely the cheap wheelset... My bike can run 27.5 + also, will try that out and likely when I upgrade go 27.5 regular.

26 and 24, but that's cause I don't think 20 inch bmx is fair lol. I'm small so a street MTB for tricks at 26 wheels is awks 24 fine. For trail bikes 26 is fine. I can see advantages to the larger sizes but I kinda think a 29er might just be too big as an all rounder. Next bike is likely to be a 27.5 wheel bike but might pick something I can try both wheel sizes on.

I have 27.5 Shimano xtr hardtail and xt full suspension. In my opinion hardtail is my favorite climbing ability is just on a different level then full suspension
