I tackle the 1/72 scale again, this time with something a little bigger- a bomber! As you know, planes are still somewhat new to me, so building an aircraft as large as bomber took lots of patience and time on my part.
Join me as I show my process and talk about the historical context of 617 squadron, the Dambusters. I found it fascinating, and I hope you will too.
All the paints I used on this build are Tamiya, pre thinned for my airbrush, and I relied on Testors glue to hold this thing together.

Since this video blew up, I have received some corrections as to my historical commentary. In light of those, I humbly apologize and offer the following revisions: - There was a crew of seven, not six - I don't know where I got George Gibson from; the man's name was clearly Guy - I misread 'Chastise' as Chaste, in which two dams were breached Thanks for watching and keeping me on my toes!

Worry not! No one knows everything about anything, keep learning. 617 used the smaller "Tallboy" weapon on the Tirpitz. Also sank the Heavy Cruiser Lutzow with the same weapon. 👍

You know that's all circumstantial pinpoint criticism! I bet you there was a few flights with only 6! I.e. flight training, or flying back with a dead crewman after taking emeny fire maybe? Doesn't matter u don't have to correct yourself. I always say, if you have haters, your doing something right .. keep up the good work

actually, I just had to tick off the crew positions on my fingers because I thought, wait a minute, there's no Mid-upper Turret on a "Chastise" Lancaster.....so would that have meant 6 or 7 crew? But yes, 7 crew. Nice build, and thanks for building as P-Popsy which was S/L Micky Martin's aircraft (a fellow Aussie), everyone seems to build "The Boy Prince's" (a nickname given to Gibson and NOT fondly) G-George

As a child and teen I built a lot of models, somewhat crudely and in a hurry, rarely even painting them. I dreamt of building this very model and all but forgot for over 20 years. Two days ago I was randomly given the same kit shown here completely free, I'm so excited and will build it, properly, with my Son very soon. Great video, thank you.

All came together nicely. Colours look accurate too. I've seen a real one a few times now and it's always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Glad too we are keeping you on your toes :-)

Lancasters carried a crew of 7 not 6. Pilot, flight engineer, navigator, wireless operator, bomb aimer, 2 gunners. The attack on the dams was called Operation Chastise. It was led by Guy Gibson not George Gibson. 2 dams were breached. The Mohne and the Eder.

That's very amazing that you did as well. I also did assemble that same model kit as well. I did it long time ago. I one of my latest videos I'll put the kits that I have assembled long time ago as well. I also have one other Avro Lancaster waiting to be assembled as well. It's also in that same scale, and it's also from Revell as well.

Guy Gibson led the raid not George Gibson, also the raid was called Operation Chastise Lancs normally had 7 crew however the mid upper turret was removed due to CofG change.

The mid upper gunner operated the front turret during the raid.

Not George Gibson but Guy Gibson. He is buried at Steenbergen (NL) He was shit down by Friendly Fire (From a Lancaster) while flying his Mosquito. I build this kt somewhere in the mid 70's and the kit itself ( molds ) are from 1968 I believe. So considering it's age it is not bad at all. ;)

Definitely available during the 1970s,I got one for Christmas and thinking they got it wrong because of the ventral guns.

Nice job! I will get that set now, I guess. I remember that my school friend built a Lancaster back in the days. Can't remember which one I did. We always did sets together. Must have been 12 years old or so... I like the British bombers' style. Allow me one recommendation: You could improve your videos with better lighting.

2 dams were breached that night the Mohne and the Eder. 4 bombs dropped on the Mohne 3 on the Eder 1 was dropped on the sorpe but it didn’t breach the dam

Bit of overspray on you paint..you should also use masking tape to avoid that

Yeah, I should've thought about that at the time, but I think the effect it gave it at the end was cool enough. The parts that were properly masked highlighted the rest of the camo, but in the future, yeah, I'm going to mask next time

Sometimes there is some residue left on the plastic from the mould releasing process. Dipping in detergent is good practice for models for painting later on

I did a much better job than this using properly mixed bottle paint with good brushes.While the new revell kits are better detailed,l enjoy the old ones from the 60$ better.
