Reverend Bizarre and Lord Vicar interview - doom metal master Kimi Kärki in for talk and action 

Had the pleasure of having Kimi, Sami and Christian Lindersson staying over during a lord Vicar tour some years ago (think their regular bassist was sick at the time as Sami played the bass).. cool stories and good beers.

"The sickness of mainstream religion" ...ha, yes! The _Old Time Religion_ aspect is unfortunately by and large absent from most of the Doom bands nowadays. Being born in the late '60s, I grew up with my older sister listening to Sabbath, and in the '80s gravitated to the seminal Doom Metal bands (although back in those days that particular category tag didn't yet exist) and most of those bands - Pentagram/Death Row included - relied on a lot of Christian themes and iconography i.e. Saint Vitus, Trouble, Candlemass, etc. The Reverend Bizarre stuff is gold! ...aside from the use of Christian & Satanic themes they likewise incorporated Gnostic elements as well, which I find most interesting ...some of that also carried over into some of the material Albert subsequently did with Spiritus Mortis. Back in the late '90s and '00sI was a member of the old Hellride online forums, and recall the RB guys and the COTD - among other bands, RB had their own forum there - were accessible and comical. I still listen to RB all the time. While I seriously doubt this would ever happen, a Rev Bizarre (temporary) reunion record and supporting tour would be *MASSIVE* as RB - in terms of the mythology and legend of the band - are far more renown and popular in those heavy music circles today than they were back when they were a working band. Lastly.... re the phenomenon of _nice guys_ playing very dark art/music... that's typically how it works. For instance, Stephen King is a very personal, friendly guy, and not a maniac, ha. Many actors who specialize in villainous roles are often known for being pussycats in real life. It's silly to suppose that metal artists are some sort of dangerous boogeymen because of the dark music they play ...the exact opposite is more likely, if for any reason, those who are in touch with all sides of the human condition, and find ways to sublimate anti-social impulses through art tend to be better grounded than those who keep the unsavory aspects kept behind locked doors. This was a cool interview, cheers! As Reverend Bizarre have been one of my very favorite bands for nearly 15 years now, and I've been eagerly following the members' other ventures as well, I was positively surprised that there were several informational tidbits here that were actually new to me, hehe. Never connected the moniker to Cathedral's The Carnival Bizarre, for instance. Nor had I heard of that posthumous performance at a Greek wedding!

Thanks for this awesome interview and much respect to Kimi Kärki for all his work. Can you bring up the physical aspect (martial arts, weight lifting) in your interviews more often? I am a lifelong metal maniac and also into combat sports + weights. For me it's so obvious that this worlds are so connected. Keep up the good work!

It is very interesting how all the og doom bands handled Christianity differently. Troubles adherence, WFG puritanical view, and Pentagrams sort of you, the listener are a sinner and should be in fear!
