Wow I was so surprised to see that he made a katana by Japanese traditional way. In other foreign TV show, they often make katana by western way using western tools. They just made western swords the shape of which is katana. But you are different. I respect you a lot from Japan. Thank you.

And someone told me to "test my Japanese elsewhere." I speak it fluently, but I don't know anyone else who knows it irl. And of course I'm not going to look up a grammar guide on romaji. I've been speaking this language fluently for 14 years. And I taught myself purely by memory ALONE. Of course I don't know the correct grammar. Nor do ii care to. I just did it so I could prove I could. So many people acted like I was crazy because my methods were unorthodox, but part of the reason I watch anime in the first place is because I'm a genius, so I relate to the OP characters in quite a real way. My IQ is so high I can't measure it with a standard test, and if I get to the Mayo clinic I'll be able to test it correctly. Of course my methods are unorthodox. I'm an autistic savant! Like rainman, but real. Did he strike you as conventional? People ridicule that which they don't understand, and that's why autistic people like being around autistics in particular. I met a guy at the bar that was 63 and I'm 28. Spoke to him a full hour and had the time of my life. Guy had been a college professor before, and he has asperger's syndrome like me. There were less than ten things he mentioned I hadn't heard of, and the two of us spoke for a full hour. 35 years of experience gap and we were evenly matched in intelligence. That should show you the truth.

Moron, the curvature of a real katana is done when it is tempered not by hammer.
@adlirez
@adlirez 3 года назад
EliosMoonElios actually, it depends on the build. Sure, a lot of the curvature comes from the tempering, but the blacksmith can also adjust the amount of curvature depending on the client's request. Sometimes the metal may curve too much or not curve enough, so it's only right for the blacksmith to adjust it. Besides, the sakabato isn't a traditional katana, so Ilya's method of putting in the curve prior to the quench makes sense.
@hiimchrisj
@hiimchrisj 3 года назад
@@EliosMoonElios In this case, he had to. The curvature comes from how the edge of the blade is insulated versus the spine. So in the tempering process in this case, since the edge is on the backside of the sword, the blade would start bending in the opposite direction.

"Rurouni Kenshin" is my absolute fave Anime series! Thank you for making his famed Sakabattou and giving a detailed history! And the "crazed maniac" form of Kenshin is his infamous "Battousai" state, where he reverts back to when he was a Hitokiri ("Assassin") during the Bakumatsu days. If no one has watched this series, I HIGHLY recommend it! It's an older Anime, but it's amazing on many levels. To watch, do so in this order: Samurai X: Trust Samurai X: Betrayal Rurouni Kenshin Season 1 Rurouni Kenshin Season 2 Samurai X Movie Rurouni Kenshin Season 3 Samurai X: Reflection Hope you enjoy the series, and, once again, thank you guys SO MUCH for doing this!

Pretty much anything in the main line series after episode 60 is all filler. Even then in all honesty I'd recommend just reading the manga. Though Trust, Betrayal and Reflection are pretty good to watch on their own. As both Trust and Betrayal are fairly accurate to that part in the manga.

@@hippyman698 Ah well to each his own I suppose. I will always prefer the manga to the anime, mostly. I do love Trust, Betrayal and Reflection. Ironically I saw Betrayal YEARS before I ever saw Trust. Some of the events in Reflection cover the Jinchuu arc of the manga and do a decent job of it. Though the final part of Reflection(the new material) jumps forward another ten years after where the manga for the series ends as well. I liked it myself personally

when he did the Hattori Hanzo sword form Kill Bill, he did it with traditional metods, so this Sakabatō is a sequel from that video, because it was very focused in the forging of the blade.

Master swordsmith Kanekuni Ogawa actually forged a sakabato using all traditional techniques. The sword is displayed at the Meijimura complex in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture. There is another sword I,reckon the shinuchi, given to Takeru Satoh when the last two of the live action movies wrapped last month.

Katana's are one of the greatest swords in history for a different reason. Many people think that they are these godly powerful swords that can cut through almost anything...when in reality...they actually are further from the truth. You see...the metal they made them out of was full of impurities and was very weak...however, the reason they became so powerful was because of the techniques of folding the metal making it stronger. In fact, if you were to compare a European long sword...it'd be a stronger sword because of the more pure metal...but Katana's do their job because the blacksmiths understood how to turn something weak...and turn it into something strong. That was proof of how skilled they were and why they are some of the greatest swords in history.

@EliosMoonElios
@EliosMoonElios 5 лет назад
Wrong, the real katanas are straight before cooled, in the cooling is when the katana get the curve shape, the low quality metal body sink more than the high quality edge, is impossible to make a real reversed katana.
@learnedwolf7084
@learnedwolf7084 5 лет назад
Wanted to say this, cause its right. This is not how you make a real Japanese sword and I am surprised how many people don t realize it.
@harrishvillelminero606
@harrishvillelminero606 5 лет назад
I think thats why they had a pre curved blade before the final heating for the curvature. This a unconventional sword built in traditional way (although not all steps). Why so much salt then?
@fadephantasm1301
@fadephantasm1301 5 лет назад
are you even listening? the reverse edge has unique way of cooling method coz of the reverse edge itself....commonly the blade is straight 1st then when cooled..it bends a little bit coz of the cooling process and the difference of the metal's mud insulation....the spine cools fasters thats why its shrinks, thus causing its natural curve..but in the reverse edge's case...its diff....the spine is in the front...so if you dont bend it from the start...it will bend forward .the sword will look like a scythe not a katana..
@EliosMoonElios
@EliosMoonElios 5 лет назад
[Fade Phantasm ] Is not that easy, changing the mud from the edge to the body not reverse the process, body and edge are made with different metals and the body metal sink way more than the metal in the edge.
