This video is the gift that keeps on giving! My levers positions where 1/2 and 1/2 throughout my house. I was planning to move several of the latches around to try to get handles right side up. Reversing just the handles was a breeze! Thanks for the video.
Great video. Thank you. I wasn’t sure if I had to buy dedicated right and left handed levers, or use the reversible. You saved me some much needed cash💰 .
Thank you so very much for this detailed information because I had already removed my exterior garage door lock set before I realized that I had to switch the direction of the levers and the problem was I couldn't get them back together again it wouldn't click and the instructions just weren't very clear so your detail about needing to insert that pin key again in the pinhole was what finally kept me from tearing out every last hair on my head. That was the missing link here and if I had not found your video I'd be bald by now. This detail worked like a charm. Thank you again
Half of our handles were one way & half the other; obviously the builder & contractors didn’t know either!🤦🏻♀️ and of course the builder did not leave us the little tool to switch them. I prefer them to “swoop up”. Thank you for the help!
OMG. Thank you!!! Why don’t the packages come with instructions? We have so many handles the wrong way. After seeing this my husband reversed the new handle in a few minutes. The ones we have bought in the past, unfortunately, we’re not this type and we were forced to buy the wrong sided handle because they were out of stock for what we needed.
I agree with you that the handles come upside down. I have changed them in the past just as you did here, but I had forgotten how to do it. Thanks for the video. You solved my issue!
I'm amazed at how many people have their handles on upside down or on different ways in the same hallway. Glad I could help you get your handles on the way you wanted (i.e. the right way, LOL)
1:15 my handle is the first one. When I got my lever in a package it was the wrong way and for some reason kept getting budged. So I switched it thanks to you!!
yep, definitely crazy. (I say that based on my being certifiable, and that you have the same thought I have.) Sorry to be late to the party, but I just got the same challenge, and reading the nice directions left me with more questions than when I started trying to switch it. Thanks for showing how'
@@Woodified, not just a help but an inspiration as well. Showing your difficulty with freeing the key side (which is where I had started) encouraged me to continue trying, and eventually succeeded. Kudos and thanks!
Thanks for the info! I prefer fixing stuff like this myself instead of paying someone an inordinate amount of cash to do it. Hell, I fixed weapons radar and inertial navigation systems on F-14's, I ought to be able to be able to pull this off, right? I've read conflicting views as to the way the "curve" is supposed to be mounted, but I figure it's up to the individual and how the design best fits their hands/needs. As a paraplegic/double amputee, it's easier for my service dog to open the door for me when the curve is turned upwards, thus her paw is more apt to stay on the handle instead of slipping off the end of the curved portion. Either way, I appreciate your having shared this valuable info. Have a great day!
I have the exact same looking set by Epic, but my set is for an exterior door with a key to lock and unlock . The smart salesman at their hardwares store said NO you cannot turn the handles around ...because of the key barrel...I disagreed but no was no use arguing with him. I may have to watch other videos with an actual key locking mechanism. Thanks... the hard part is using the tool to get the handle off.
Unfortunately, once the set was screwed on to my door the key wouldn’t fit in or or turn...so OFF it came, and the old set back on. Now, I will go out and buy a more reliable brand name lock set with NO LEVER handles just the round knob, or maybe an electronic / keyed set and if there is a lever, I will insist they reverse it at the store AS FOR THE OTHER SET ....it’s in the GARBAGE.
Thanks D Herauf, I figured there are people that have a different opinion than mine :) Having the handles on all your doors the same way around is a nice touch whether they're up or down.
No, D Herauf. All yours are installed incorrectly. The handle according to the ADA should curve upward and then downward toward the end. This allows you to push down from a higher position, not push down from a low position. Woodified is correct.
We have one we want to reverse, and when we depress the little button as instructed by you and the little paper it came with, it still won't come off. Three of us tried! It is the tricky side with the lock set. Do you have any ideas?
Sounds like you already tried using the extra set of hands trick which usually does it. If you already ready tried pulling, twisting and rocking with the button pressed in I don't know what else to tell you to try. Sorry. If you get it figured out please let me know.
@@Woodified Yeah, we tried two people to increase the force and movement on it. We even tried prying with a screwdriver. I don't know how much twisting I did though. Yes, if there is some trick to it I'll let you know.
This is all well and good if both sides of the door are using the same handle but what happens when you don't? How do you change the handle from right to left or do you have to order something different?
Wondering if can be done after install. New house has all same handles, and want switch some around. Is it possible or does it require to remove from door? Thank you for this hack!
You say that's the right way "in your opinion" but according to Kwikset, that is the correct way. Their instructions have a "Correct" vs "Incorrect" diagram. Your right way is the right way.
Glad to hear companies are starting to put proper instructions with their handles. My handle didn't have a diagram nor anything about which way the handle was designed to be.
If you want the screws on the other side of the door. Remove the screws; pull handles and rose off door (rose is the ring at the base of handle); rotate handle and rose unit 180 degrees; then install on the opposite side of the door. If your handles are upside down. Watch my video on how to reverse the door levers.
Is it possible to make it so one handle faces left and the other faces right? I need the inside door handle to face inwards and outside to face outwards.
Do you mean one handle points towards the door hinges and the other points towards the latch? or both pointing towards the hinges but the handles curve one up and one down?
It’s easier to first install the locking privacy set in the door backwards and then reverse the the handles with the release pin. Takes only two hands that way not three 😂
Nah it was in the correct way if I follow Weiser instruction flyer... but it's just a matter of taste, I guess.... the more important it's the mechanism, the lock but not the orientation of the knob.
@@Woodified funny you say that…. I went to Lowe’s and purchased replacement handles in my new home for all my doors, totaling 12 to 13, changing those ugly gold finished paint chipped ball kind to the satin nickel handles you demonstrated and EVERY LAST PACKAGING had the backwards wrong kind within. 😂
