The videos in general are awesome and for school purpose are good too. The mistake in changing from hot to cool and the slide on the reversing valve doesn't move at all was a little bit confusing but I got understand and I also see some comments below that mentioned that. If you can improve a little bit more would be interesting for all hvac classes ON. Thanks.

i think there is a small mistake in the simulation < that in cooling the moving body stay at the same position while it,s should move to the left and allow the refrigernat to go to the condesnser

ts so helpful to learn just the way the reversing valve works. it allows to reverse cycles for both heating and cooling. The way it works the reversing valve it has two insede slide valves that it all depends what your calling for (heat or cooling)its going to close a side of the valve and open the other one closes.

Hi.. Thanks for the great explanation on heat pump....What can we do in case if we use distributors on the evaporator? How the flow will be reversed correctly as there will be leads connecting the evaporator and expansion valve? I would like to know the set up for the higher capacity units. This was a great explanation... I've been dealing with a mini split I just installed and the fan on the outdoor unit does not kick on allowing the unit to overheat and shut off. BUT... when I power off the inside unit... It comes on for about three seconds...I can't figure it out

Recently one of these failed in our 6 month old Mitsubishi Ecodan R32 ashp. The whole outdoor unit needs to be replaced, as these valves are brazed into the pipework and can't be repaired easily in situ. Very interesting video, thanks!

So ice makers use this as well. When it goes from building ice, once the desired ice size is met on the evaporator fingers or trays. The reversing valve switches from freezing to heating the evaporator momentarily to drop the ice off the fingers or tray into the bucket or ice catch tray

Hi, In cooling mode, when the cooling cycle ends and the compressor is turned off, is the reversing valve typically held on (so that it doesn't slide back under the residual pressure) or is it typically disabled (open circuit/power down) along with the compressor? I.e., is the reversing valve solenoid typically on all summer, or just when the compressor is active?

In relation to the compressor at what height should this component be at? I ask this because most small systems they are above the level of the compressor, and there is a chiller which this component keeps failing where it's in line with the bottom of the component. Another question in relation is because it's low in the system would oil not get in and somehow block operations.

Marius Botha 1 second ago No, think carefully.... there is no liquid (other than a very minute amount of oil present) only hi pressure vapour. I f you have hi pressure liquid there then you are in great danger or the piping on the unit is very very wrong.

Hi. I i need to selct a reversing valve for y heat pump, what are the key paramezters beside the capacity. I check that the capacity requirement is fulfilled however I have very high velocity in suction line (during heating) and the datasheet specification of 4-way valve does not mention any velocity but the pressure ranges (which also meet the system requirement)

Because I see the flow in video suction gas is not come from common suction line, low gas flow back to common suction! Where low gas come from? It’s doesn’t look like to from common suction? Thanks

You new a few other components and some controls but yes. You can use this to provide heating or cooling in almost any weather. Even when cold out you can use it for heating

what happens when a check valve misfunctions? I am having an issue in my home in the heat cycle only where when the unit cycles off, I get an intermittent hydraulic hammering for maybe 5 seconds. Only during heat, and most online sites I am reading point to a faulty check value on the indoor unit. What is going on in this instance?

So the O wire from the out door units control board would run to that cilinoid, and is energized when the T-stat is set to cool. If it is set to cool and the O wire is pulled the unit should switch from cool to heat. And if that doesn't happen the reversing valve has failed. Sorry, if this seems like I'm teaching, I'm actually trying to get the diagnosis process down in my own head so I can figure this out for my costomers.

There is a mistaken in the drawing in "cooling mode". The black moving part in the reversing valve should be drawn to the left site in stead of being in the right side, what is not so in the drawing. So it is advised to do this, to better understand the drawing. Nevertheless the gasflow side is correctly indicated.

My Gree Hansol does the defrost many times a day even when there is not even a smallest sign of ice on the coil. Why it is doing like that? Please help!! When the outdoor temp is around 3-4 C° everything is fine. It can run all day. If the outdoor temp drops at -1- -2 C° it does that 10-15 times a day, but no sign of ice on the outdoor unit.

So it’s really a “heat pump” whichever direction the refrigerant is flowing? It’s just that the condenser and evaporator are swapping their tasks over in the heating mode. An air conditioner and heat pump are two names for one device. A reverse cycle capable air conditioner?

New valves are "bistable", the coil never stays energyzed, power impulse activates it instead. They are not spring loaded.

Seeing as I have 8 minutes and 42 seconds of experience on the subject, you should trust me when I say your reversing valve solenoid is failing to energize when a call for cool is issued by your thermostat. I don't know what sort of unit you have but it could be a simple as replacing a capacitor. Best thing to do is call an HVAC specialist to troubleshoot the valve.
