Review: 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe (Automatic) 

this is a future classic, 10 years later and it still looks amazing.

The G35 is not a rally car, JDM drift car, drag car, etc. Its a grand tourer. a sports car with back seats made for driving long distance while having performance, beautiful styling, and sporty yet comfortable ride. This ride does not lack soul.

Wow the rear end of the older infiniti's look 10x better than the new ones. The front ends however are amazing on the new ones.

Had a 2006 350z sold it and bought 2005 immaculate g35 coupe and have never looked back. G35 is a much better ride

I have a Gen Coupe and i still can't get enough of this V6 sound

Bought my son an 06 g35. Loved it and then he totaled it. But it really got me fired up with Infiniti! Bought myself an IPL a year ago, and I’m in love all over again!👍

I don't see how you can complain about that trunk not being enough space....I think it's plenty, unless you're constantly having to pull around big boxes, but then again, your fault for getting a sports car. It can fit groceries and a backpack, which is what the average human uses the trunk for.

350Z and G35 are practically the same car and I love them both, however Nissan's little secret is the G35 Sport Coupe is actually faster around the race track and pulls a higher G on the skidpad.

05 G sedan owner with 150xxx miles, best car for the money! Its beautiful, has a quick V6 with almost 300hp, handles phenomenal and its ultra reliable! It also has reclining rear seats! 3 year owner with 0 major problems, just normal wear and tear. Also, you could get the wood trim interior from the factory for the G35, the brushed aluminum is just a lot more common. Some of the 05+ automatic G35s also had keyless start too. I know because my G35 has a keyless start system, just keep the key in your pocket!

The 6 speed has the rev up engine. About 30 more horsepower and torque. Also if you disconnect the VDC this car turns into a power sliding beast. Performing drifts in this car feels amazing and you have so much control.

FYI: You can only get the Brembo's on the 03-04 6MT cars & they all had the same suspension parts (springs, shocks, swaybars, etc) regardless of what trim you got. You are right about the lack of refinement & the interiors on the 03-04 cars are better than the 05-07 cars.

This is one of my favorite cars. Always loved how they looked, and most importantly how they sound. The VQ35DE sounds like heaven. ;D I just wish you would've found a 6MT model. If I own this in the future that'll definitely be my option.

I love my Infiniti G37 sedan it really is a timeless car. Not many people know that it pushes out 300+ HP.

A proud owner of a 05 g35 coupe..I just got it detailed, I love this car!!

Great video. I also own a 350Z and a 2014 Q60S which replaced the G37 which replaced the G35. The funny thing is that the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the 2004 350Z and the 2014 Q60S with it's automatic are exactly the same. The 350Z is 287 hp while the newer 2014 Q60S is 330 hp, but the Q60S is about 450 lbs heavier then my older 350Z. I bought the Q60S simply because I wanted a Z but with a little more room. My Q60S has the upgraded brakes and larger wheels then a regular Q60 so the brakes are a bit better then in my older Z. What is impressive is that the 2014 Q60S handles as good as my 2004 350Z. I was amazed at that one given the Q60S's extra weight and length. Both cars are excellent cars for people who like driving. If you are looking for a boulevard ride and go wonkers if you feel a thump when hitting any cracks in the road, then look elsewhere. These cars both favor handling over ride quality. They are driver's cars and not your average grocery getters.

Thanks for reviewing this car, it's nice to hear someone else's honest opinions. For me, after driving this car over 2 years now, I would say it's a good car with several minor issues. I wouldn't recommend this due to the fact that it is a older model, and things do age and go bad quite frequently. Matt, if you have the chance, please review a 235i as I'm eyeballing it for a while now :D

Nissan Skyline based, not 350z. It's Japanese equivalent is called the Nissan Skyline 350gt. The only thing about it that's Z Based is the engine.

I have a 2005 g35. Great car so far for price performance and reliability. Only complaints I have are the seats are too small for tall broad shouldered people. The seat width is too narrow so you can't sit back comfortably in it. Also, the seats wear out and start tearing near the outer edge. Other than that I had to replace the camshaft sensors after buying it and all 4 tires because they were worn out. Now I need to replace the shocks and serpentine belt. Engine has been solid and I love driving this car, has great horsepower and performance for a car that is in the same price point as a Honda and Toyota. Also this car looks better than 2013 Toyota and Hondas and costs less. I get compliments all the time on how sexy the car looks and the leather interior is fantastic. Infiniti really did a great job on this car

I really do like these cars. Put some breather mods on it (exhaust, intake, headers etc) and good suspension and they're great cars

There's a few different trims. The one in the vid seems to be a base model. The higher Sports trim has a spoiler, 19" Forged wheels, and minor interior differences ( center console and cup holder which don't rattle, because the cover is a sliding type). The 6spd manual also has more power than the auto, so that combo of manual and extra HP is significant. Thanks for the review though!

For the record, the center console is a little loose because it can be removed to make room for your elbow and replaced with a blank panel, just based on preference.

got my g in march the same exact one except with a spoiler and sport rims love it so much, there are so many ricers in my area so its fun to dust them

Good review. I had a 2004 G35 sedan with the 6 speed manual. It was an ok car. I felt it was much better at being sporty than luxurious. Very nicely balanced chassis, the gear box was satisfying to row through. The interior was alright. I bought it with 67000 miles and it still felt pretty tight, no rattles, just a creaky front seat. The seats weren't quite as sporty looking as the coupe seats. My main complaint with the car was that it was kind of a chore to drive when you were just driving normally. Clutch was super heavy, gear box was gear for fast hard shifts but bulky in normal traffic. Sound deadening wasn't what I expected. The engine also seemed wheezy at high rpms, power was good, but it didn't seem happy about it. Mine also had an oil consumption issue when I bought it so Infiniti replaced the engine under warranty. Something to look out for, especially in 05-06 6mt cars(350z's also). It did happen to some 03-04's too, but not as many. The other problem with these cars is that bolt ons do almost nothing, so you basically have to boost it if you want more power. I have mixed feelings about it. I had an rsx-s before it and ended up trading it in for a 2011 wrx(have since moved on to a 2015 wrx) after about a year and a half. I found both the rsx and wrx's more enjoyable to drive and not as much less comfortable as they should have been considering the g was supposed to be a luxury car.

g35 over 350z anyday.. g35 looks way better in my opinion

Giving that it is 10 years old, things such as the loose, "cheap" feeling cupholders and arm rest I can forgive. The previous owner must have used those things a lot, and giving that Infiniti's build quality wasn't the most amazing thing at it's time, it was still good. As far as the Brembo Brake Package that's optional, a sports-tuned suspension does come with it and it is noticeably better, in my opinion. A friend of mine currently owns a 6-speed G35 with the Brembo Brake Package and the ride quality is better than it would be stock. The springs absorb more bumps and tries it's best to soften out the ride.

Well i have an 05 g35 as my daily driver and i have an 09 audi a4 but g35 r really nice car good fun to drive and really reliable car all i did was oil change 4 times thats it unlike my audi different story but my point is that i dont feel no bumps and ride quality is good..i barely feel any bumps and i commute to work everyday 1 hr drive back and forth really comfortable fun car to drive thats my opinion owned it for a year love it still

Drive one with the 6 speed manual and the sport package. Way better ride quality and control. My friend has a 350z and it is only marginally more "sporty" but way less convenient for carrying passengers and everyday items. Also having the 6MT premium package makes the car way more comfortable than the Z. Plus there is only a half second difference in the 0-60 time between the two and im sure many will agree that the added comfort and livability is well worth that half a second. Just thought id throw in my two cents worth, keep the videos coming. Cheers!

Finally you review a G35 Coupe dude I've waited so long for this Subaruwrxfan! I actually own a 2006 one myself with a jwt intake and z tube as well as the 5/16 plenum spacer and upgraded tsw nurburgring rims in bronze and 235/35 tires up front and 275/35 tires in the back, I'm about to watch now!

solid review but biggest thing that stands out to me is that Matt has such a pleasant demeanor. it's funny in a charming way haha seems like a cool, "glass half full" typa dude to chill with.

With a good sports car comes good rebound and compression in the suspension. It will feel a bit bumpy and uncomfortable.

I own a 2005 G35 coupe (not sports package) and I love it. The only three drawbacks I have is that the fuel efficiency is fairly poor, the left side of the driver's seat wears out quickly, and it's analog clock. Otherwise, it is an amazing car. It handles superb and is a very good looking car. It is relatively cheap (compared to other luxury vehicles) and is fairly reliable. It's pretty much an Altima on steroids so it's decent but it's no Toyota Corolla.

HELP. I bought an infiniti g35 coupe at the auction for $2700. The car was clean (no salvage) with 94k mileage. The only problem with the car was the broken bumper which needed to be replaced however the car was still able to run and drive. Did I make a good decision by buying this car?

I have a 06 g35 sedan . Good car . Just got 150,000 miles. Only problem that came across is my a/c went out, my valve body had to be replaced and little leaking oil but easy cheap fix. But what do you except , it's a 11 year old car with almost 200,000 miles. Eveything else on the car is amazing. Bought it in 2006 . Don't regret a day . Fast , drives good. I would want a coupe next

Could the fake wood look any worse. But the car is very nice.

Keep in mind when reviewing these older cars, that the shocks and springs are probably very worn out. If you were to replace them or drove it when it was newer it would feel a lot better similar to new cars. With that being said, I believe the 2005 g35 were known to be a tighter harsher, closer to the nisan 350z. Where as the 2nd gen g37's are more softer and depart a bit more.

Would you recommend this car for a starter car? I've found a couple in my area 2003-05 for less than 10k which is my budget.

Wow. The wood trim ruined that car. They should take that off. Even with only 22k that car is ruined with that garbage on it. I guess...luckily they ruined an automatic. I would want to hunt the previous owner down if they did that to a manual. PS: I wish people would stop debating your personal car purchase in the comments. Regardless of my personal opinion (which is blah mustangs), I'm just tired of having to sort through that crap in the comments. I'm glad you got what you wanted.

Seriously man, I mean wow, wtf was the previous owner thinking with that nasty "wood" dashboard? If I owned that car I would vomit every time I got inside it.. Which might make it look better if I vomited enough to cover up all of the fake wood.

I have a 2005 G35 coupe. You mentioned that the cars suspension was firm, in 2005 there was a luxury suspension option and a sport suspension option. Also you mention that the breaks could also have been brembos but the last year for that was 2004. FYI

When considering an old car with very low miles, you have to check to see if it's a crashed car. Sometimes it's low miles b/c the owner just leaves it there before fixing it.

I enjoy your videos but the reviews are misleading and I'll tell you why. You can't compare the 350z with the G35 because the mileage differs, the owners are different, the way they were driven was different, the environment/climate the cars dealt with are different, the mechanics work quality who did work on them are different this causes different degrees of wear and tear, suspension, shocks, engine block, transmission reaction/smoothness and etc. I am aware you give the car a break and recognize the age, but can you really judge the cars body roll and smoothness knowingly? Take care.

I have an 06 6speed manual and is my first car and man I love it so much. i changed the front bumper on mine to the c-sport bumper and put a full exhaust on it and man I just love it and not regret it at all. yes if u like to race is not the fastest compared to other sport cars but it is definitely fun to drive since is a rwd. I recommend it, but go for the manual transmission is a lot more fun

I hate when people compare the Z to the G, lol. I feel like the Z is such a better car. Not even comparable. The G is a luxury car. The Z is a sports car.

One thing to keep in mind regarding the ride quality is tyre pressure,it can make a big difference on the same cars ride feel. perhaps check the pressures before reviewing

I have a 05 G35 but with sports package (looks 100x better) and just some basic mods, and i have done over 23k miles in just the last year and absolutely no probs it holds up perfectly and with simple things done to the exhaust sounds amazing. If you have questions about the G35 feel free to ask!

That VQ engine is a good motor, I had a VQ30DE several years ago it had good meaty mid range torque and revved quickly.

I love my 03, just minor ware and tare when I got mine. I wanted a 350Z being a nissan fan, but I got a baby and I needed some back seats. Man I am happy with my choice: 1)this cars are rare were I live (PR) so is a head turner because of that and the good looks 2) is fast, at least more than some cars, kinking the buts of those honda and genesis lovers 3) the aftermarket is huge, I tune the car a little and still can do more. 3) my little girl feets and loves it. 4) is an infiniti, although maybe fake, can give you an "status" of "you probably have money" kind of status LOL

I think all 6MTs come with the Brembos and what basically amounts to the 350Z's shocks and springs. Bummer that it rides so rough, seems like Bimmers get the same level of performance without raking you over coals. Nice review though, welcome back.
