I’m tired of hearing about the “dated interior, old fashioned design “. RELIABILITY! The Ford has a pretty fancy modular interface that will keep you entertained while you are waiting for the tow truck.

That’s what I came to the comments for also! I love the current Tundra, it is too bad I can’t buy one, yet. I love the big, bulky interior, the classic gauges, the big beefy design. I love the key ignition, too on the lower trims. I would love to buy A TRD PRO but it has push button start (yuck 😷). Anyway, these trucks are super reliable, arguably the most reliable pickup truck that is sold today. Real people that own trucks for what they’re worth agree.

No! Unacceptable to be paying this much money for a truck that i can’t even get remote start for the winter. It desperately needs an update. And don’t even get me started on the horrid fuel economy.
@thumperpaul
@thumperpaul 4 года назад
Who says you can’t get a remote start for the Tundra? The dealer offered to put one in for me, but I went aftermarket ( CompuStar) because I wanted a 2 way remote. You’re bitching about fuel economy? Sounds like you’d be better suited for a Prius.

Ya these trucks have zero tech compared to the competition I would say literally every truck is "better" then toyota right now. But I think toyota is catering to the more simple buyer who wants a work horse that lasts forever. I don't think many people lease these, they actually buy them and keep them til the wheels fall off. The problem with the other new trucks is due to all the electronics, they're like iphones, they need to be replaced every 3 years. Thank you for another great review

"Replaced every 3 years"? What electronics on these trucks are you talking about that need to replaced every three years? Sure the optional nav on a ten year old vehicle looks dated vs a modern smart phone but thats why most are being sold with "Car play" interface instead of traditional nav but never heard of people having to replace their electronics on 2015 and earlier model trucks...

TurboDieselDan, I think he means the 3 American trucks will all start to fall apart after the warranty expires, which is 3 years. Sure there will be exceptions with people saying their truck has 250k miles with no issues but the overwhelming majority will report about it always being in the shop for minor things.

+hancho I own a pool cleaning business with 10 trucks. 4 Chevy Silverados, 2 Chevy Colorados, 2 Toyota Tundras and 2 Toyota Tacomas. All trucks are over 100k miles. The Chevy's are constantly in the shop for problems other than routine maintenance, where the Toyotas only go in for routine maintenance. From my experience, Toyota makes a much more reliable truck.

@Todd Jones is a difference between what looks better and durability Toyota beat everybody when it comes to durability Dodge beat everybody when it comes to looks I believe Dodge has some of the best looking cars on the road I wouldn't buy one a lot of them are notoriously unreliable the Rams aren't that bad but that Hemi needs a tune up every 33,000 miles for example just food for thought

Consumer reports says the Tundra is the most reliable and most durable truck and has been for several years. I have owned Fords and GMC's they are junk compared to a Tundra. Every person I know who owns a tundra has put hundreds of thousands of miles on them with no major issues. Next Truck is getting bought this year and its going to be a new Tundra.

Tundra is a good powerful old block V8. Problem with it is that Toyota don’t care to put more R&D to develop it more to compete. They’ll just riding on its badge. Definitely most reliable truck and best resale. If they develop this truck more like they do with their other line up it’s gonna be a killer.

Just blows my mind that this truck and it’s technology and styling is considered “dated and basic”! How freaking spoiled and vain are we American consumers these days. This is a beautiful truck, built for working. And $48,000 is a LOT of money. That’s another thing that just baffles me, how people spend so much money on a vehicle.

The only reason I would get a truck is to haul a trailer/boat, go off roading regularly and use the bed for a payload. All these other trucks with this german luxury tier tech features will eventually break. I want my truck to be as minimalist as possible, I need it to be reliable. I wouldn't treat it as a pavement queen like a lot of people do. This Tundra seems to be my kind of truck. I could also settle for a base model domestic truck but those tend to never have the more powerful engines as standard. If I am only going to use the truck for commuting like a pavement queen i'd rather get a nice car.

I've been considering a used truck for a while now and have had my eye on the Ford SVT Raptor with the V8. After watching this review though, I feel like all this generation Tundra would really need to compete with the Raptor is a TRD supercharger and would still retain its reliability while costing a bit less... well worth it imo even when considering how low tech this truck is in comparison to its competitors.

Tundra is strong enough to tow space shuttle. Tundra went 1 million miles on one single engine without being rebuild. Tundra seat fabric didn't even worn-out after 1 million miles. Tundra frame lasted 1 million miles. Tundra cab corners lasted one million miles. Tundra exhaust manifold bolts lasted 1 million miles. Tundra engine lasted 1 million miles without blowing spark plugs. Tundra is the only million miles gas truck without problems. To many people focus on looks and forget that looks are deceiving. To many people call reliability is outdated, and favor issues as advanced technology. I know truth hurts, but it's reality.

I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra SR5. Just crossed over about 82k miles. I have had zero mechanical issues. Now, the only non mechanical issues I have had... The radio locked up on me 2 times (basically refused to respond to my commands). The first time it happened, I had my music up pretty loud and then knew something was up because I couldn't turn it down lol. Had to pull up and pay for my food with music blasting lol (did this one other time) Only way to reset it was to hit the power button on the unit or turn off and turn on the truck. The other issue, has been my steering wheel. The rubber substance they use on it can wear. I was actually cleaning my steering wheel (using a microfiber and some detailer spray) and the outer rubberish layer tore on the steering wheel so I now have a hole that is starting to spread on that outer layer of the steering wheel (I can put a steering wheel cover on). Other than those 2 issues, I have had zero to complain about. If I DID had to complain about something? The stupid brush guard underneath... It is the HARDEST thing to put back into place when you are finished changing your oil. Also, the oil filter housing... you are supposed to be able to loosen the bottom of it to allow the oil to drain out of the housing before removing it and making a mess. I have never been able to loosen that little plug so yep, I remove the whole thing every time and make a mess lol. Actually replaced it and the same thing happened (first one was from factory). Why they don't use an all in one oil filter like Chevrolet or Ford is crazy. I actually pay more for the filter than the whole housing of a comparable truck (also change oil on an 03 Silverado so I have that to compare to). Summary of all this, I bought this truck because I knew that it may not have all the tech in the world, BUT it will start for me every time, will last for just about forever, and It has great trade-in value on it (it holds better resale value than any other truck brand for good reason).

So I see a lot of people complaining about the tundra lacking tech., bad fuel economy & dated interior. The question, is the Tundra trying to be a luxury truck? Also, Toyota was just honest with the mpg numbers, other "modern" trucks consume almost same amount of fuel. On the TFL towing test, the tundra did consume just about same as the competition. Tundra doesn't have to be like the competition, it has to be a tundra. Others are only good on paper, modern tech is overly hyped.

I just bought my 18 tundra sr5 trd pro. This exact trick only in white. I rolled my 06 f150 and no air bag went off. No tech? This truck has more safety technology then others in the same price range. Plus no other truck has a fully opening rear window.

Tpr1634 guess it's okay if you plan on paying 10-15 grand more to buy that new 2019 ram 1500 truck. I prefer yo nit pay that much more for sn over loaded vehivke. Who the hell needs cooled send heard seats. When did our society become such wimps? Must nevtge b Generation xers and millennials who cried yo truck manufacturers engineering crying that their rearenfs were either getting too warm of cold! Bunch of wimps. You buy a truck yo do work. If want a family grocery getter go buy a damn SUV or a crossover type 4x4 vehicles.

I do agree, the hell with tech. I don’t need it in a truck. I just want a lasting vehicle with no bullshit. I miss my mustang GT, now she was decked out. But I love my truck and hope she last as long as everyone’s Ive seen before.

Handsome truck. Has reliability. Sound system is the kind of sound a musician would prefer-clean and accurate. You do have to crank it but when you do the speakers generate clean sound and no distortions. I like the F150 3.5ecoboost’s power and handling though.

Have a 2017 tundra and I agree Toyota has fallen behind the domestic brands on many aspects. However, I would not be a tundra owner for the fact my new 2016 f-150 was a lemon, and Ford had to buy it back 6 months after purchase. Looking forward to 2020 tundra to see what Toyota does with their re-design. Until then I will stick with quality, dependability, and reliability of my current tundra. When the times comes for trade-in or sell I know it will have good value.

Same as the Tacoma. They buy them, and keep them till the wheels fall off. Could not agree more. A 2010 Tacoma Access Cab TRD with 90,000 still gets $18, 000 where I live.

I'm Toyota loyal and after becoming so used to the reliability of them, I don't think I'd ever have the balls to get anything else. They do really need to update these though, they're falling so much behind. I won't ever need a full size truck so it's not something I'd ever seriously consider but damn it pains me to see these "new" ones on the road all the time
@kurtbecker9609

so 'falling behind' I went out and bought a used 2018 sr5 in may 2020.(I let someone 'run into' my 2006 tundra sr5 and it was totalled, so needed another truck) and with plans to put 400K miles on it, will be driving a dated truck for a very long time. drove the rams, the silverados, the f series. not even close.

It’s dated in some aspects but far far far ahead in things like standard safety sense How is the new Silverado any better at all than my 2010 Silverado in anything other than frills as I just can’t see that 4 cylinder turbo having a long low cost life

Not happy with my Tundra at the moment. I bought a 2016 SR5 TRD last year used at 38K miles, now figure out it needs a new gas tank due to a sticky roll-over valve which I suspect has been there since the truck was made (results in really frustrating fuel fill ups - slow, slow slow), Toyota is NOT interested in doing anything about it after chasing them several times, basically told me to go away. That will be a couple of grand to replace. I now also have a blow door lock activator on the left rear door -- apparently Toyota has had these issue for years, great another issue. So much for Toyota reliability and support ...

Just bought a 2018 4.6 V8 GST/Gulf States Toyota TSS Off Road. For the price it can not be beat. Less than 35,000 plus tt&l. I installed a set of 4600 Bilsteins and am happy for the value spent. You can buy the TRD Sway Bars and LED lighting. As far as this video......you can get more with another brand at the same price? Find me a Ford/Chevy for under 35k with a V8........never.

I had a 2017 f150 screw 5.0 4x4 that had way more tech and better fuel economy. It had 22k on the clock and went to the dealer 3 times for warranty repair work. Guess what? Last week I just bought a 2019 outdated tundra. I don't think anyone has to ask "why"?
@jwin4165
@jwin4165 6 лет назад
All you cry babies saying the truck is outdated, you need to NOT drive a truck. A truck is a man's machine, not a luxury car with all the amenities. I'll take reliability and simpleness over all the fancy electronics and leather seats that will only cause problems down the road. Tundra FTW!

Good affordable workhorse that will last. That is why people buy a Tundra. And lets look at it this way. In 2025 are people going to look at a new 2018 and be impressed? no. It doesn't make sense to update every 5 or 6 years. When you can offer a lot of new things on a truck then do it. But from year to year most trucks don't offer much more.

Im willing to trade lack of tech for more reliability/resale value. But I just can't accept the absurdly low mpg. Toyota needs to add 2-3 more gears to make this truck competitive with the Ram 1500. 6 gears is just way too inefficient.

If you want to tell me the interior is outdated I’ll budge a little on that. But that engine is perfect for what a truck is supposed to do, and exterior wise, the Tundra is the best looking pickup on the market. Trust me. The only reason why the American 3 sell more than Toyota is because Toyota doesn’t sell Heavy duty trucks, if they did game over.

I don't know about y'all but I've been in cars with plenty of gizmos, after a few days I forget most and revert back to the 3 main ones...radio volume, fan speed and ac on/off. That's it. Gizmos are cool if you dont actually use a truck as a truck. I got in an accident in my 08 tundra and getting my ass back in another tundra. Gizmo-less
