The Lexus is by far the cheapest to own in the segment because of the high the resale value upon trade in and low maintenance cost. Finance the TX and put the rest of the money in a portfolio.
I would also add that when we cross shop these against the Grand Highlander which is been on the market for several months now, no dealer has them in stock and they're charging a 3 to 5 thousand dollar premium of added stuff you can't take off. off. so if you take that into account with all the added additional standard equipment you get in the TX you're much closer. I would say less than $3,000 to a mid-level equipped Grand Highlander. at that point it becomes a question of semantics and we didn't notice a lot more sound insulation and refinement overall handling of the Lexus, tx over the Grand Highlander
@@salocin911 Interesting. Savagegeese made it out as if the TX was miles ahead of the GH in sound insulation and handling. If it really is that close I would go for the Lexus for the prestige and resale value. The stuff added to the GH will lose its value immediately once you drive off the lot.
We’re warming up to get a new TX500h luxury, none of it’s competitors give us close to the amount of space this has. The one we test drove was quite smooth and very comfortable. Definitely a step up from the loaner MDX we had for about a week. The only vehicle in this segment I haven’t tested yet is the QX60 but on paper the QX60 has been ruled out due to not having a lot of space and not having any more powerful engine options. The TX500h gives you 366hp which compared very well to the MDX Type S, while giving you better mpg.
Do it. We just purchased a TX 350 AWD Luxury and its awesome. My kids fight over who gets to sit in the 3rd row. They didn't do that in our other SUVs - CX9, MDX, Tahoe, Suburban.

I think I prefer the interior of the QX60 , however a lower price for the QX60 would make it more compelling. Grand Highlander seems like a good choice for reasons Matt pointed out. Thank you for the very good review as always.
Why did they flip the DRLs? It makes the car less stately and elegant and more aggressive, playful and more like a mainstream brand. The Lexus LBX has them as well and I think they don't fit the Lexus brand at all. The Lexus RX has beautiful lights and represents the Lexus brand identity among crossovers.
There’s lots of cheaper alternatives if someone doesn’t need a luxury brand, but to me the Grand Cherokee is a little more expensive than most and unless someone can get big discounts on it, it’s not a great value.
@MattMaranMotoring Nonsense! The Grand Cherokee L is "more expensive" because it has more standard features, technology & luxury amenities available. Furthermore, a loaded Grand Cherokee L Summit w/V6 powertrain runs circles around the mediocre Lexus TX premium for about the same price.
@@TheBjjones Unfortunately, the reliability and long term value sucks! Their pretty, the first two years are awesome. Just google JGCL troubles and they are everywhere. They are one of the reasons we have lemon laws.
I am sure this is the TX Luxury, not base of Premium. You cannot build a Premium with HUD or digital camera mirror - not even if you add the Technology package. You have to go Luxury.
I unfortunately haven't driven the other versions yet so I can't compare that. Compared to the Grand Highlander I'd say this 350 version felt very similar, they're both soft and smooth. I'd hazard a guess that the 550h will ride similarly and that the 500h with it's sportier F Sport setup and adaptive dampers might actually be the stiffest of the bunch, but I'll have to wait till I drive the 500 and 550 to confirm that.

I’ll take the competitors with th their V6 enjoins and NON turbos cuz when that thing goes and it will that Lexus and all these new little engines that could with these turbos is going to be expensive to fix.
Can you please confirm that TX price. The one you’re driving you stated is $63k as tested. But that one with the heads up display, digital rear view mirror and premium stereo, no way adds up to $63k.
In Lexus' opinion the 2.5L hybrid is not suitable for such a vehicle. I agree with them. It would just be great if Lexus could do it like Mazda and rate their engines not only for premium but regular as well. People that buy Lexus aren't really going the last couple horsepower.
The Lexus is very nice, but soooooo generic! And that interior may have space, but doesn’t seem very luxe. (Maybe if you load it with the BEST of everything it’ll be nicer??).

Suggestion for the new year, don't give me homework. You're driving the car and talk directly to Toyota. Either look in the book in your glove box or ask Toyota directly what fuel this can take.
Like I said in the video, it says premium fuel recommended. Just about any modern car can run regular, the computer just pulls timing, but car companies almost never detail the compromises of that, so that's why I have to be ambiguous with my mention of putting regular gas in it.
