When I was building, I went through many machines 🙂👍🏻. Good luck Declan. Hopefully conditioner is steel on ticor or steel. Rocks are hard on rubber 👍🏻. The flails do a decent job on grass. My NH is a pain to hitch🙁. Thus I LOVE the self propelled for hay. The disc is nice for clipping pastures. Take care🙂
Nice video Dec! The Marangon has been a good mower for you. Partly because it is made well, but also because you look after you're equipment well. You won't have any problem with a trailed mower. It isn't an investment in the work the mower does - it's an investment in yourself working with a mower. Best wishes in finding the right fit!
Have the exact same mower only difference is it was made in 2005 so she’s a fair age but still a good yoke i have had no real issues with it except from having to change the belts once a few years ago it’s a great all round mower
You'll probably be looking for a JD1355, 2.5m cut, overall width 2.7m, 5 discs. Would be a good idea to also have a look at a Keverneland/Taarup 337 or 4024, 2.4m cut, 6 discs and overall width of 2.4m. The overall width makes a big difference for transport. Whatever trailed mower you decide on, get one that attaches to the lift arms. You can turn at an angle more than 90 degrees with full power and no stress on the driveline.
I did a good share of mowing with a trailed JD 1360 mower, bullet proof machine, 10 foot cut and was on the drawbar not the lift arms....a pleasure to work, much more enjoyable than a mounted mower. I suspect a jD 1350 would suit you or the newer 1355, they were 8 foot cut trailed mowers. Big mowers though for narrow gaps and lanes, especially if turning in to your right off a lane into a field or turning right out of a field...if turning left, you can fold out the mower to help make if follow the track of the tractor. Only downside is alot of those JD mowers would have a lot of work done and trailed more expensive than mounted mowers.
The Marangon mower range do not use a Comer bed. The bed, and round discs are designed by the Marangon company. It is a family owned company and Tractamotors Ltd in Cavan are the sole importers of this mower into Ireland. By the way Marangon produce a trailed version too. Available in 8'1", 9'4", and 10'5" sizes
@@thomas_4426 the thing with a trailed mower, if it is tight getting into a gap you can slightly push the mower away ( as in unfold it ) At the end of the day it all depends on what your use to
I think you would be mad to buy a trailed mower for the drawbar, 2 point linkage far better system letting you turn tighter and all very easy to put on too 👍
Had you any problems with yours not folding up fully ? You’d move the lever to fold it up itd go up to a point and you’d have to push it in for them last bit
I would advise not to get one for the draw bar/pickup hitch had one before and got rid of it after a few months because you can turn as sharp and link arms will get caught in either the drive shaft or else the bottom of the draw bar
Correct, a mower on the hitch won't suit turning in smaller fields. I would have gone for a good 4 rotor tedder instead of a conditioner, you would be able to get silage ready quicker in short weather windows that we sometimes get in wet years and you would have it to make hay also, let the contractor row it when ready for baling
Aidan we have an old major topper for topping. It aint the best but does the job and our graxing ground has a lot of stone so we dont want anything to expensive on it!
Cheers for that bit of advice Mark, I had no experience with any but like you said it limits how much you can turn and to always be minding not to hit the PTO shaft would be a nuisance!
We have about 10 head of sucklers that was cut in half 2 year ago and now we are moving into beef. Currently killing about 10 head of bullocks a year and trying to grow that. Sheep are also on the farm
Don't buy the John Deere mower it was probably a contractors mower and it would have been on a lot of jobs and wore out buy a side mounted more like a krown 8f
Cheers for that your not wrong they just seem to do well for lads but many of them coming out of contractors yards ya! Not sure about a side mounted but ill be looking over winter/spring!
