Great Bike, I like it, but I miss a suspension fork. I just rode ( in Frankfurt, Germany) the Tern HSD S5i with the 5 Speed Automatic, and a suspension fork and I liked it a lot. I wish this set up would be available in the NBD for the future. 😁
I definitely recommend testing the NBD. The way it is designed with most of your weight off your hands makes it work without a suspension fork and keeps it lighter weight. Test ride one if you haven’t and then let us know what you think.
Great review as always! The Terns all look amazing and practical for a lot of uses. Aside from cargo capacity, how would you compare this one to something like the HSD?
Great question. If you don’t need to haul a passenger and want a more upright cruising ride position, the NBD is going to be the bike to test ride. The HSD excels at passenger hauling and if you want a compact speed bike than the HSD S11 is your go-to
LOVE this for one person. If you need to transport an 80lb child to and from school...could you still get a seat post with some suspension on a different bike of Tern's for that need, along with grocery shopping etc.? Which would work for that. Love your designs. Just got a voucher from Denver's program for e bikes and seriously considering TERN.
Yes, absolutely. Any Tern can have a suspension seatpost and some come with them standard. The post on the NBD just happens to be unique because it is so long. Great going on a voucher. Get yourself a vehicular quality e-bike like a Tern from a local shop!
nice bike for a shorty like me. I have an HSD S8i, but i'm thinking of selling it to get this bike instead. the only thing I don't like about it is that it has no suspension fork.
By placing the rider in a more upright position with minimal weight on your hands, Tern mitigates the need for front suspension - but the seat shock is highly important. That being said, if you are riding on very rough terrain suspension can be nice.
@@thenewwheel Thanks for your input. I dont often find myself riding through rough terrain so perhaps it isn't so bad. I do quite like this bike because it's smaller than the HSD S8i and a bit lighter
I just bought the NBD S5i. I am 4’10”, 100 lbs. I had been looking for a bike to replace my old one for five years. This one is a joy to ride. If you don't mind my asking, Karen, how tall are you?
No way. Shopping is one of the many super powers of this bike. If you need to really haul we’d recommend a front transporter rack along with rear bags. Not familiar with a Grandtan.
