I have several Ausranvik and Aspenora refrigerator/freezers. A 37qt, and two 54qt refrigerator/ freezers. I use them in emergencies to prevent losing my food from the "real refrigerator and freezer. Even the 54qt models only draw 55 watts of power on high (freezer mode). You could install one flexible 100w solar panel on the roof of your micro van along with a small solar generator and in good weather you could run the thing indefinitely. I have done so. A 288w solar generator is about $175 to $225 depending on what you get. Cheezy little units! Just think, you can go camping and have ice cream 🍦 😋!

I also have a 55 quart in the back of my rubicon. I actually have two of those units coming in for review and I ordered 100 W solar panel. Great minds think alike!

@@MotoCheez Your going to need a solar generator. Basically it's an entire solar power system (minus the solar panel) in a box.

That looks like a very good deal on a portable fridge. I like the design. For micro van camping or van vagabond travel, the only improvement I can see would be making it sturdy enough to use as a seat. It's surprisingly energy efficient based on your numbers as well as the Amazon reviews. A couple of these may be all I'd need in an off-the-grid solar powered home. Top loading is inherently more energy efficient. Opening a refrigerator door dumps the cold air out onto the floor. Amazon reviews indicate that these are durable in everyday use.

you should look into those flexible solar panels to attach to the roof to keep a battery charged for that and anything else you may need.

I just freeze my water bottles. If you do that, that would reduce the load on your battery. You just have to set a bottle out early so it's ready to drink.
@MotoCheez
@MotoCheez 2 года назад
Definitely. I just keep the water bottles in there without the refrigerator plugged in most the time until I'm ready to use it. But yes freezing the water bottles is definitely a pro tip

@@MotoCheez If you leave them in your home freezer they help by acting as an ice box for when the power goes out. Much better than having ice packs taking up space as they don't serve any other purpose.

Compressor fridges are awesome..I've been through 4 different ones now, I recommend the ones with the Dan Foss compressor, which is German technology if memory serves...40--60 watts an hour, they barely sip energy, solar is the way to go, with a couple lithium batteries, or get a lithium/solar power station..Anything over 500 watt hours will work just fine..If your gonna be doing serious boondocking, building a proper solar system is the way to go..Will Prowse on RU-vid and his website will teach you everything you would ever need to know..I power a microwave, air conditioner, lights, fans,fridge, etc..Go to the middle of nowhere for weeks at a time, in my van right now, on a trip...

@@MotoCheez If you guys are into building solar systems there is no better resource than Will Prowse, his RU-vid channel and especially his website, and he has chat network that is full of electrical engineers, that will help anyone who posts some questions our asks for help..I have a homemade solar system for my van and one for my house and a homemade generator, built on a dolly, and also have the Bluetti AC200P which is fantastic, 2 kilowatts of power with Lithium Iron Phosphate cells, it can handle 700 watts of solar, it can even power an air conditioner, can't beat it for it's use case..Perfect for a van with a fridge and lights, fans, etc..Although you don't need one that big, it can double as back up emergency power at home when the power goes out, for router, electronics, fridge, lights..Which I've used for that very thing several times pre my homes solar system...

I have used one in a medical office for years. similar unit different brand. its been monitored with a digital thermometer for the past 5 years (which is beyond what I expected it to last) maintaining 36-46 perfectly however the temperature on the thermostat/built in thermometer was off considerable. best part is the ability to use it as transport with the 12v. There are rebranded "medical" versions which sell for a billion dollars. I do not trust it to freeze. it takes forever to freeze it to zero. maybe new models are better.

i jus tbought another brand its 75 in my house.. and the thing turns on for 20 off for 20 this is just like a normal fridge.. is it me or should it be like an hour before it kicks on or something i thought these things were efficient? anyone have any ideas? i mean i paid 150 for it off amazon but still my sodas are cold and it just comes on and off and on again for tha tprice i coulda got a dorm fridge with far more room they dont come on that much unless you open the door i dont know any one else expeince this? or suggestions?

@MotoCheez 2 года назад
The 2 units I own, once down to temperature, usually run for about 3 minutes the off for about 20. Running for 20 minutes is a long time to cook a few degrees, from power off, 75 to 40 only takes both mine about 15 minutes.

@@MotoCheez well when i first plugged it in took 3 hours to get to 32F and now im noticing about 12 minutes on then 12 off so maybe it needs time to adjust the digital thermostat it should kick on here in 2 minutes what im doing is using it as a fridge in my room for sodas so i can put a couple packs of sodas and dont have to get up every time to the main fridge so i plan on using this thing as much as possible.. i always thought chest freezers were super efficient.. but then again it like a normal fridge needs 24 hours to thermally adjust and may kick on every 30 minutes or an hour.. its 70f in my room right now so i know thats not it ok its still not on 831 it came on its now 845 so 1 more minute thats 20 minute cycle.. i notice it kicks on say at 31f id like to see it go 3 degrees down and 3 degrees over that way it would only kick on once an hour.. then again i don't have it insulated i may do that this is the one i bought was on sale 150 bucks yup right at the 20 minute mark 846 pm so it is 20 on 20 off the t stat is too sensitive.. its just like a normal fridge then i dont see how a battery and solar panel could keep this thing going at night i panned on a car battery 750 cca with a mppt and 350 watt panel on the roof and im seeing a jackery 500 people saying 2.5 days of running.. i just dont see that unless i got a cheap model meaning the 150 bucks is well not insulated well.. here's what i bought www.amazon.com/Protable-Freezer-Refrigerator-Camping-110-240V/dp/B09HGY4GQM/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1C9E759MDHHFW&keywords=fridge+freezer+12+volt&qid=1651808960&sprefix=fridge+freezer+12+volt%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-6

@@MotoCheez also maybe i should lower the temp to say 30 or 28 i mean im just cooling sodas but maybe then i dunno but then i think the temp setting for the tstat is way to sensative im thinking itws 1 degree so it goes 31f then kicks on this is way too soo and not sure how to calibrate it etc
