I just bought that same engine, 2 weeks ago. I LOVE it! Its not a little loud, its VERY loud! I haven't played with all the features yet, but I wanna know how to turn on the number boards.
From what I remember the SDF40-2s were rebuilt former Amtrak SDP40F locomotives they were acquired by the Santa Fe from EMD after trading in GP7 and CF7 locomotives. A lot of differences what they were originally when they were built for Amtrak. One major difference is that it only has a headlight the space between the number boards was once where the Mars light an emergency light were. And of course you have the empty spacing on the rear end of the hood which one's house to steam generator. And on the SDP40f the horn was located on top of the cab above the number boards well on the case with this engine the horn is moved back in between the fans for sound efficiency. On most locomotives today, the horns are moved back in the middle of the locomotive to eliminate loud horn blasts
Great review as always. I just bought one as well. It's a really nice locomotive that sounds fantastic. The twin speakers really enhance the sound. The first loco I got was defective out of the box but the nice folks at Trainland replaced it without hesitation. They even paid for the return shipping. Replacement loco was perfect. Thanks for the review.
Nice review James! One thing I did notice is that the snow plow included grab irons. This is something Athearn has omitted until now (besides LED lighting). The only thing left is etched steps.
Hello from down under, the Tsunami2 has a lot of new features, I don’t know them all, but the CV’s can be setup for sounds to come on automatically as the loco moves forward and slowing down coming to a stop. Nice looking model. Regards Gary 😊
I feel as certain companies put a lot into detail and not into sound and effects. Honestly they could put smoke units especially in diesels, in the fan exhausts and give the fans a spinning effect. Why haven’t people thought of this besides BLI because when you see a diesel loco go by the exhaust usually comes from the fan. Just put a small hole in the loco with plug and funnel it in. The decoder should be housed in a cover inside a housing. Sorry for the rambling. Great job James on another fantastic video. MegaMultiMoe
Nice looking as alway Genesis, however Tsunami 2 needs to dump that cab chatter feature and focus on the sounds that are actually useful i.e. prime mover, DB, HORN, etc. That cab chatter feture is useless! PS. Your BNSF 473023 hopper is missing an unloading gate
