I bet the home boosters would work better. They have better antennas and boosters. I bet if you upgraded your internal antenna on your current booster you might get better internal performance. It might give you boost around the entire RV. I use a booster at home, have experience with many different kinds and found that changing the antennas & using better cable gives big increase in performance. Good Luck,. Vinny 🇺🇸

If you decide to go with the ladder mount like I did, you may have to add extra washers to get the u-bolts tight as the u-bolts ran out of thread before the nuts got tight. I ran the external antennae cable through the refrigerator vent and into the overhead cabinets wire chaises, needed a small fish tape for the job and a couple of very long drill bits. Used a grommet where i drilled into the side of the refrigerator roof vent with a hole saw, vent screen is still intact.Good video.

Terrific review as always Brian! I too would like to see your antenna mount build and how you attached it to the roof of your RV. Only one more year before we hit the road RVing, and I expect we'll seriously start looking at Class C RV's in about 6 months! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas......I can't wait for it to get here!

Someone may have already commented, but for every 2.2db of added gain the power sensitivity of the antenna doubles. Example: we will use watts as a measure of signal. If your antenna had 6db of gain you might have 10watts of signal strength. By adding 2db that would become 20watts. 2db more would be another factor doubling it to 40watts etc. making it Omni directional is tasty icing on the cake with far fewer adjustments and knowledge needed. My only recommendation is keep the antenna vertical and mounted up above say a metal wall. This will keep the signal pattern equal in all directions.

Are you still using weBoost 4G-X ? I would love to see the telescoping pole setup because that makes a lot of sense when boondocking. We have a Class A with a ladder in the back and we love your thought process of not having to drill any holes on the roof.

I'm using a Drive Reach now with the OTR antenna. But the Drive X still works well too. I've never used the giant 25ft pole that comes with the Connect 65. Just haven't had the need for it and don't want to haul it around.

Hi Brian, Bill here again. Well, we ended up returning that Drive 4G-X we bought before from Best Buy (see my other post on this thread) and bought the Drive 4G-X RV from Camping World. Unfortunately, things didn't work out very well for us so far. This past weekend we took the Rialta to the "Beachside State Recreation Area" (on Oregon coast just south of Waldport) and we tried out the Weboost (we were at -113 dBm without it, which meant NO voice and NO data on T-Mobile). Sadly, I was unable to get ANY benefit from the signal booster. I tried various things like moving the exterior antenna, moving the interior antenna, swearing... but it didn't work for us. So, when we got home, I got online and I made some tech support calls. It turned out that I had entered the wrong product code! Strangely, Weboost tech support assured me wouldn't matter! So I fixed the product code thinking the problem was solved. Still, even with the exterior antenna placed out on my deck, the cable running into my kitchen and the phone sitting right in front of the interior directional antenna, I saw absolutely NO benefit. Outside by the antenna I was seeing about -113 dBm (I was between two houses) which I believe should have been strong enough to get something. You're experiments in remote areas where you've had no signal at all worked for you many times, right? On both calls to the Weboost tech support team, they insisted that at -113 dBm (or worse) that you might not benefit from the Weboost. But, Brian, you've been saying in both of these videos (this one and the earlier one about the Drive 4G-X) that you're able to go from *no signal* to some really good reception. For example on www.rvwithtito.com/articles/stay-connected-4g-signal-booster At my home Without Booster: -113 dBm With Booster: -76 to -60 dBm I was able to get a noticeable boost when I tested it inside my house. The signal there went was about -95 dBm without the Weboost and it went to about -70 dBm (~ 25 dBm). So it does seem to work. It just isn't pulling in a signal for me the way it appears to for you. I can't figure out what I am doing differently. Any help from you (or others!) would be greatly appreciated! I sure don't want to return this one too, but so far it's not playing out as expected. I don't want to give up on it. I really need to find a way to connect to the internet while travelling. Thanks for all the useful information, ===Bill Underwood===
@livingabovethe12th
@livingabovethe12th 6 лет назад
People seem to be confused about what maximum number of bars means. It simply means you have a very strong connection to the antenna. Bandwidth that's being allowed with whatever conditions your connection is at the moment is not related, except in extreme cases, to the number of bars that you have so just keep in mind that bandwidth, which is the fancy word for how fast your internet connection is, and signal strength of the connection are two different things.

Awesome external mounting idea.. Using marine antenna gear was a brilliant idea. I am a little surprised they don't use a "loop" internal antenna to provide better coverage inside the RV.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
Hey Steve from NZ. The internal antenna has always been a challenge with this type of application I hear. I think the range is intentionally low to prevent interference in a such a small space (unlike a larger home). I'm pretty sure I could swap out the internal antenna with something else should I desire to.
@kiwicomposer
@kiwicomposer 7 лет назад
Yeah. Agree. Interference could be the issue. But it is a pain if you wanna lay in bed and do stuff and the internal antenna is way down the other end of the RV. Hmm guess you could set a cable splitter on the 'coax' cable. Then run to a 'wall outlet' in say bedroom and another in the area by the table and another by the drivers position. Etc. Then you could just unplug the interior antenna and move it to the most convenient wall outlet. Hmmmmm So long as no interference from the main roof antenna all would be sweet.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
I usually use my phone as a hotspot which is accessible back in the bedroom. But good idea. I ordered an SMA splitter (arrived today) and plan on connecting two internal antennas and see how that goes.
@kiwicomposer

Let us know how it goes.. Might be a handy trick! Hmmm Be interesting to know how many "internal antenna" the system could handle. LOL

Thanks for putting out another helpful video. I have one of the original packages 4g-x. I'm using the antenna it came with attached to a 4/0 steel electrical box cover at the rear of the RV. We had a chance to use it in a very remote or difficult spot for cellular. The weakest part of this system seems to be the interior antenna. The "candy bar" antenna really has to be next to the back of the phone to get the best results. I upgraded it to a big ugly white antenna and really, I didn't see much of a deference. In the end if you need to make that call and you attach or hold the candy bar against the back of the phone it'll work and we proved it making some necessary calls to family during a trip to a campsite that was at the bottom of a canyon. Turns out the best way for use to use the system is with internet and not having to rely on the interior antenna but instead with the help of a short cable I got from Amazon plug the unit directly to a wifi hotspot that has great coverage inside and out of the RV. Lastly, I like the marine bracket that you used in this video. When I bought my unit I also purchased a "truckers antenna" and that bracket should help me to install it on the outside back wall of the TV and just lift it up when I want to use it. My thinking here is that no matter how I installed this thing the radicals that stick out like a porcupine will catch on trees and stuff so hanging it down the back might be my best option. The bottom line for us I think without spending a gob more money would be to settle for good wifi and the occasional phone call.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
My experience is the same. We use internet more than phone. I attach the candy bar antenna directly to the back of my 4G phone with some velcro (which I use as a mobile hot spot).

TODD SWENSON the issue is that if you have the latest Verizon "Unlimited" data, you are limited to 10Gigs of data per billing cycle with your WiFi Hotspot...(i.e., Jetpack or iPhone hotspot) If you are intent upon streaming Netflix, for example, 10Gigs won't give you many movies or RU-vid vids.
@toddswenson
@toddswenson 7 лет назад
Jim, I hear you but I'm not so sure Verizon does (ha). The issue on this video was really about getting the signal. How much it costs vs the amount normal people should get for a reasonable amount of money is another matter entirely. My cell bill isn't up to the amount I would pay for the unlimited plan just yet. I can't get out onto the open road enough. Hopefully, that day will come soon. What's important to me now is that when I can get out that I can find signal. I am using more data than talk time so your comment rings true for sure. I heard that Verizon purchases their internet access in most places from the cable companies and then resells it to us for huge profits. I suppose if that's true and anyone got wind of those actual resale percentages people might be really mad......I know, I know they got to buy equipment to build out the network. I'm sure there are some people still making a gob of money.
@JimCouillard
@JimCouillard 7 лет назад
Todd, thanks for your input. I too am waiting until I get on the road to make a decision. Some say that a directional antenna will get a better signal if you are stationary for any length of time, so I would use this helpful link (www.cellreception.com/towers/towers.php?filter_verizon=1&city=empire&state_abr=mi) but then there's the issue of setting up every time one moves. It also seems that Weboost ( Wilson) for the past few years has just been repackaging the same technology in different configurations without a significant upgrade in innovation or functionality. I keep waiting for the inevitable breakthrough that will lower the price and truly boost the range. Dreamer, I know :-)

We really enjoy your videos as we prepare to set out in our first RV in the next month or so. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you set each of your phones to allow "Wi-Fi calling" (at least iPhones can do this under their cellular settings), all phones in the RV connected by Wi-Fi to your hot spot should be able to use voice cleanly.

Brian, Nice review looks promising. In your video you spoke about locating the indoor antenna at a distance from the outdoor antenna, is there a minimum distance required for correct operation and good signal boost? Thx for all your videos.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
I didn't give a specific distance since it is not directly specified in the documentation for this unit. The RV-4G stated 20 ft, but it had a different external antenna. The standard Drive 4G-X did not specify a distance either, but the internal antenna has a very short range. I assume they are leaving it up to you to determine what's best for your RV. I would suggest at least 10 ft to be safe. In either case, the booster will detect interference or poor signals and give you a red light. If all is well you'll get a solid green. I suspect that it depends on the composition of your RV ceiling as well. A metal framed ceiling may provide adequate isolation between the internal and external antenna. Before permanently mounting the antenna, I recommend testing the signal first.

Great idea of having a plate for the antenna to mount to instead of drilling into the roof, first time we have seen that. We have been looking at the we boost products for a little while now and they seem to get the best reviews. We stay at a lot of state parks where there is no wifi and we will be on the move often, this looks like the best option for us if we want to stay connected every where. P.S. We really enjoyed those outtakes lol.

Thanks! It has been great to have. I was on the fence for a while until the original Drive 4G-X came out, then I bit the bullet and got one. It's been great to have especially in those areas that you mention. It's nice when you're getting a great signal when you know others around you probably aren't. In fact, even when parks have WiFi, I generally don't use it.

Hey Brian. How do you connect to the booster through your phone? More importantly, can I tell my AT&T Velocity Hotspot to use the booster as well? I keep seeing reviews for installation and success stories, but no one has yet to explain the actual act of how to tell my device to use the booster? Is there a new app that links it? Can you explain how I get my devices to recognize the booster? Thanks. (Or does it only work with a cell phone, and not the hotspot wifi?)
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
+Nomadic Fanatic Hey Eric. No app required. The booster takes the signal from outside and simply retransmits it inside to your devices. So you use your phone or hotspot as normal just with a better signal. Yes it works great for a hotspot. That's how I use it. Just place it close to the internal antenna.

Brian, please do a video about your antenna mount. Would it be possible to electronically raise and lower the antenna mount from inside your RV? What about attaching the antenna mount to an extra long pole, say 10 feet, so that when it is electronically raised from inside your RV, it is well above your RV? I'm assuming the higher it is above the RV the better the reception? Thanks Brian. As usual a great video with lots of good ideas.

Others have mounted it there as well. Just test it before making it permanent to make sure there's enough separation between antennas. If it's a problem you'll consistently see a red light on the booster instead of green.

I've researched the cell phone booster options to death. The conclusion I've come to is that if you are often camping where you get a signal that's ALMOST good enough to use, these products in some or most circumstances may boost said signal and make it much more usable - faster data, better call clarity, etc. However, if you have no signal you are out of luck because there's probably nothing to boost (kind of obvious really). More importantly, it seems that if you have a very weak signal these boosters don't improve things enough to make the signal useful. I don't know about you, but that last scenario is the one I'm most interested in and I haven't seen a product yet where consistent reviews say that it is capable of accomplishing this task. Unfortunately. I'd pay the 500 dollars in a heartbeat were this not the case.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 5 лет назад
Conditions vary considerably based on location, time of day, tower strength/quality, topography, trees, etc... All of those things effect the level of boost, so it's never a guarantee. In my experience, I've been able to get a much better signal about 80-90% of the time when I needed it. For those other times, we're just in a bad spot and need to move if we really need that signal.
@rh-cv3nr
@rh-cv3nr 7 лет назад
Hi Brian. Minro technical question. Isn't the weboost a "re transmitter" of the signal it receives? Is so, why do you equate the signal strength and bar meter on your phone with the amount of boost received? You'd think it would always be high since you are right next to the weboost retransmitter
@chrissimmons9383

Would one be able to extend the 13' to much longer and take the indoor antennae to say.. a campfire location temporarily and then run it back inside when staying indoors? Is the 13' cable just a regular coax cable?
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
It may depend on where your external antenna is. It may also have a negative impact on signal strength since the cable is pretty thin. I typically use it to power a WiFi hotspot on my phone inside the RV, which can then be picked up outside the RV and around the campsite.

The application I am thinking of would see us using the device mostly to hotspot a laptop to the phone so we have internet connection and can work remotely using the phone's wifi hotspot capabilities. Also, what does 32X signal strength work out to approximately in distance from the tower? Also also, how much is it affected by "line of sight"? In other words if you are in the mountains can you expect an improvement even if there isn't a line of sight to the tower?

I'm wondering which one to purchase. Planning on traveling on the road 'very shortly'. I have two t-mobile lines and I have a jetpack in which I lease a grandfathered Verizon data line from a company. Can this unit (or is there a unit) which allows multiple registrations (or no registrations at all). Just wondering ... drove across the U.S. last week (route 90), yes, in blizzards, hail ... everything mother nature could throw against us, and just a Verizon Jetpack (no external anttenna) managed to get us reception except along some Indian Reservations that went on for miles.)

@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
It certainly is not a requirement to have a booster. It depends on where you are and what coverage your carrier has. If you travel the main roads, Verizon will typically have you covered. There are spots though that signals are weak or dropped. Those are the times when the booster keeps you up and running. Of course, remote areas are also where you'll get the benefit of a booster. Most of the time, for us, we have a strong enough signal and the booster is not needed. This unit can support multiple carriers simultaneously. I believe it amplifies all incoming and outgoing signals in those frequency bands. The registration is primarily for the carrier, not the booster.

I have heard of people using the plumbing vent for cable entry but have never heard of anyone doing a video or explain how. Do you make holes next to the pipe or go down the pipe. Thanks in advance for any help
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
+Randall Hall You slip the cable down next to the pipe which usually ends up somewhere accessible inside your rv. On mine it's a tight squeeze to get past the narrow metal roof opening. There's just enough room for the vent pipe and barely enough to squeeze some small cable through.

mine came with the 12volt hard wire adapter dead out of the box!! (ac power works) a word of "caution" to smaller camper or rv owners!! i cant get it to work on my 18 foot camper. cant get the inside and outside antennas far enough apart. (get flashing red light) then the booster stops boosting...... this booster has to have the antennas a long ways apart to work! or you get feedback and it shuts down to avoid damage. its useless on small campers, but works great on applications to were you can use the full length of coaxial and spread the antennas way apart. wish i could come up with a way to make this work for me after paying the money i payed for it. (mine is the drive x rv)

We just purchased the Weboost 4G-X but we're thinking of returning it because we realized that we perhaps should have purchased the 4G-X RV (we are installing this in our Rialta). The newer antenna is rated at 2 - 4 dB gain while the one we purchased (magnetic mount) is rated at .5 - 3.1 dB gain so it sounds like the newer version has a better external antenna. However the newer "Puck" interior antenna has a rating of -.8 - 3.4 dB gain while the older "candy bar" interior antenna has a rating of 1.2 - 4.3 db gain. Does this mean that the candy bar interior antenna is better?

Did you happen to do any testing of the external antenna from inside the RV? I'm going to get one of these but if possible I'd rather mount everything inside the RV. Thanks!
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 7 лет назад
It certainly isn't the recommended way to use the external antenna. WeBoost certainly would discourage this type of setup. The metal frame of the RV or vehicle may block part of the potential signal which would limit the amount of boost you'll get. Having said that. I have used the smaller magnetic mounted antenna from inside the RV (near a window) and it did seem to work ok (providing I had adequate separation between the two antennas). I haven't tried that with this new one. It will probably be hit and miss. My opinion is that if you are going to spend the $$$ on this expensive unit, you'll probably want the best possible performance. Mounting the external antenna externally, will give you that. Interested question though.

This video is misleading. I've tested both this unit and the SureCall Fusion2Go 3.0 and the SureCall has better signal because it filters out more of the noise. Signal noise kills DB. This WeBoost unit clains 65 DB gain but that's misleading. It has the ability to do UP TO 65 db. The SureCall is a solid performer at 50 DB. It's all about performance. However, "best booster" is subjective because of antenna design. Head to Head with the same antenna I found the SureCall to average -9 DB better than the WeBoost, and at much less cost. Beware of paid reviews. A free booster is payment.

So your exterior antennae has to be raised and lowered each time you want to use it? It looks suitable but it’s the climbing on the roof ...

@izifaddag8221

Omni directional antenna is not such a good idea. Only in more populated areas. A directional antenna is the only way to go for a repeater. Not much difference in price but a big difference in performance.

For these products to cost so much, it looks like they could make the output on the interior ant. stronger. I don't like the idea of be restricted to having to sit on top of the ant. Can this thing be hooked to a router,to then spread the signal throught the RV.

My trailer is permanent parked on our property in Colorado we have no power lines or cable.... looking for options for internet, does anyone any ideas? We do have a 400 watt solar setup with batteries for power and next spring will be adding a wind turbine to add more power to our battery bank. we actually have 4G with anywhere from 2-4 bars of service but I wanted to add my trail camera to the internet and a weather station for when myself and my phone are not there.

I have a question will this booter I understand that it's for cell and cell data. Yet will this booster help pick up open wifi signals as well? For example, if I'm near a McDonald's and I would like to use their signal does it work as a reappear as well? Or do I have to buy additional equipment to have access to open wifi sources? If any one can answer is very important for me to understand this. God bless.

@@RVwithTito yes that was my question. Thank you so much. I'm really picking your brain today. My sister and I are moving into our travel trailer as we speak and I want to make sure that I understand as much as possible. As per antennas, would you recommend directional or omnidirectional? I've seen so many different videos that I'm confused now. We are planning to do a lot of boodocking on BLM lands as going through cities and staying in a Wal-Mart etc. That the reason I want both systems. However, I'm trying to put the best systems possible.
@RVwithTito
@RVwithTito 6 лет назад
I recommend just using an omni directional antenna. A direction antenna can be beneficial if you're in a fixed location for a long time. If you are moving frequently, then a direction antenna will be too much hassle. My opinion.
@clintstinytrailerconversio5560
1) antennas are not an exact science 2) Wilson doesn't give us RVer much help. Checking online, I was told to increase vertical separation 20 feet or 50 feet horizontal (kind of hard to do in an 8 foot tall, 31 foot long trailer. 3) each component has a different connection type and you are expected to be an expert. So, adapters are required. 4) I was lead to believe that the large inside antenna would have been a good upgrade, but it isn't. So, off to buy more antennas and more adapters, after I figure out what this and that is. 5) The best gain I have gotten from this kit, is to keep the large outside antenna, cause its directional, which allows me to aim slightly away from the cell site (yes, it can work better that way) and then... 6a) use the standard desktop inside antenna thats about the size of a book. 6b) I place my ZTE hotspot very close to it and it works very well. 7) I also carry a magnetic mount antenna, not the littlest one. Which works well on the road... 8) along with the cradle antenna, which I love. 9) On my truck camper, I can stick the magnetic antenna to the plate near the rear, which is over 11 feet off the ground and adapt and run coax into the truck and on to that cradle mount antenna. Amazing results. 10) Another thing to know is although the particular band (there are 4) is in oscillation and power is reduced it is still working. 11) The signal strength will never reach Wilson's claims, but data speed, especially upload is "holy cow" fast (this coming from a guy that remembers when 1200 bps was high speed dial up) 12) Don't bother trying to figure out which light (the band) your device is using, it varies per cell site, but sometimes I think I know which is mine. IMO, there should be a manual button or switch to disable particular bands for testing purposes.

Also you forgot to tell the complete truth because when the booster is on your phone will show full bars but if the booster doesn’t have a cell signal it doesn’t matter how many bars your phone shows there will be no internet so do a speed test and be truthful not just say it’s great so you can get more free shit from the manufacturer. Never believe reviews when they didn’t even have to pay for the product.
