REVIEW: Blackberry Priv In 2018 - Worth It? 

I think all blackberry fans, want a Priv 2, with a SD 845 etc.

Priv 2, please. Other than using it for business phone, we also want to use it for playing games (sometime). Priv form factor pays the bill, while Key series don’t.

I just replaced/changed my Blackberry Priv's battery after having it for 3 years. (I was one of the first in line that pre-ordered STV-100 ORIGINAL in 2015) Replacing the battery myself was pretty easy to do and overall very satisfied with it. New battery running brand new like usual, my gaming apps on it still run top gamer in certain apps like Valkyrie Connect. People still do not realize that the Priv can hold up to 2 TB. Ahead of its time, Completely satisfied with it and it is a keeper.

There are absolutely no privs available on any sales platforms at $80. More like $150 for a well worn model. These phones are still in demand.

Typing this comment from my PRIV, still working great for me. If this one dies I'm going to buy another until they build a new priv with better processor, more ram, better basel less display and bigger internal memory. I thought I would buy key2 but I can't resist owning a slide out phone with full display. I think priv is the right kind of phone for me, not key2. So I'll wait till another priv comes up.

love it and love the pictures’ quality. my priv happened UI system stop working, so I just reinstalled the system to solve it.

The fact you can pick one up for less than 300 makes it a steal, just to play with the keyboard for a couple months is worth it. Wish they'd update it with better internals so it doesn't overheat and eatup battery life.

I will be waiting for Priv 2, but for now I have switched to Blackberry Key2. My (second already) Priv became crazy slow. I unfortunately updated Google Maps, and the recent versions were taking 2-3 minutes to load, so long that I didn't need the driving directions anymore, and they were often crashing the phone. It was also losing its charge even when plugged in into a fast charger, so I had to try something else. First I tried a Samsung S8 with a clip-on physical keyboard. It was an utter disappointment after the Priv. A really stiff and faulty keyboard, not even backlit, so I can't see anything in the dark. Decided to give BB Key2 a try. It was all that I was missing in my outdated Priv! A much faster processor, a longer battery life, an ability to use various protective cases, and even a better softer and more sensitive keyboard! The screen is smaller, but it holds about the same content per screen, and the eyes get used to it. I think the camera was the only downgrade, picture quality wise, but the Key2 camera is super fast and focuses very quickly. A huge bonus was the ability to use two SIM cards and a free hotspot! It is an unlocked phone, so I no longer have to download various shady hotspot apps, or pay Verizon more for the same internet connection that I am paying they already. Overall, I am super happy with Key2. It is a better phone for now. But I will strongly consider going with Priv 2, if it comes out.

I just want the physical keyboard back, with slide/flip action. Miss that.

Went through 2 of these phones. Both had ALL the issues, but the design was so good. One thing that annoyed me the most was the creaking.

Very much worth it, for the person who wants a Blackberry without breaking the bank account. I bought mine at the beginning of 2018 for $200 brand new in the box, unlocked. There are not many phones at that price that can give you 32 GBs onboard and 3 GBs of RAM with a physical keyboard and wireless charging. Battery life is not great but I can get through an 8 hour shift at work, while watching youtube during all my breaks and still have 20% to 30% life left. Trick is, close apps you are not using. Also, turn down the brightness, this phone is pretty bright indoors. And shut off the dumb adaptive brightness. Nothing worse than the phone going dim - bright - dim - bright all day. I turned off the 'tap to wake' option because the phone would turn on in my pocket all the time. The screen is far superior to many phones on the market. I actually feel that the resolution is another battery killer on this phone 1440 x 2560 is not necessary for a 5.4 inch screen.

Had my Priv since 2016. I was using it intensively as my primary phone for about a year. The processor performance was a dissapointment. Strong points are DTEK security software, wifi performance, BB Hub, and build quality. BBs are good midrange phones because they perform to about 80% of the high priced Samsungs Galaxys and Apple iPhones (I've had Samsung Galaxys and iPhones). I bought a DTEK 60 since then and my Priv is now my personal phone. The DTEK 60 performs well and for a midrange phone is a bargain. I like the Key2 but I'm waiting for better specs from it like WiFi Wave 2 technology and WiFi calling.

On my PRIV I couldn't use keyboard during watching pictures. There is no zoom availible...

I had this phone for almost a year. For me it seemed as if the phone functioned worse and worse as time went by. It eventually became almost unusable. I ended back where I started. With iOS. I sold the Priv and opted for the iPhone X.

I want it just for the keyboard, I absolutely *hate* typing on a touchscreen.

If it’s not having the stability performance issues, i would still holding my priv right now. Lots of apps not optimized for priv. Google maps especially rendering my priv super hot and sluggish as fck. Not to mention poor software support. Only getting one major os update is a no no for flagship device. But still, if they release a successor with better performance and battery life, will buy it in a heartbeat

My priv wont turn on. Never passes the screen with the shapes when i try to turn it on. Any chance someone might know the cause ? Neeeed it back

I really want to want this phone. I love sliding phones and love having a full qwerty keyboard. I'm put off by the reports of it overheating and the battery depleting too quickly, so I hope they'll make a Priv 2 that addresses these issues.

I had a priv and now I have a key one black series, honestly there are many things that I preferred about the priv, the screen, the plastic construction made it much more durable my key one looks beaten up, after six month, but I can’t beat the key one battery, memory and overall performance , an updated priv would have been ideal.

I am still using my BlackBerry PRIV this time.

I've had my Blackberry Priv for three years and it's one of the best phones I ever owned. I've had Samsung Galaxy, Sony Xperia, which are great phones but my Blackberry is tough, I've drop it a few times on concrete and it's never crack the glass or stop working. Blackberry keyboard and Blackberry Hub is sweet. Even if you wanted a phone and didn't want to spend a lot of money the Priv would have pros and cons. Pros: Great looking, physical keyboard, good camera, Blackberry Hub, Blackberry Security. Cons: Somewhat outdated, no more Android updates (my last update was Marshmallow) Blackberry sent Blackberry Priv owners adrift, it's not even listed on their website anymore. Their are rumors of a Priv 2 but it will be the TCL version since Blackberry doesn't make phone in house anymore.

BlackBerry Mobile should buy the patents for this from BlackBerry Ltd. and slap the new Key2 keyboard onto it and update the hardware with a newer Snapdragon 8xx and a higher capacity battery. That would be glorious I guess and could sell good if it is priced well enough.

I had this and loved it. Great screen, and great keyboard (although not quite as great as the older berries imo). I don't know if it was common or just bad luck, but mine had a really bad tendency to overheat easily and though. It just died (I suspect as a result of that) and I had to replace it... finally went with a non-Blackberry for the first time in years. I honestly don't know why people and companies decided good physical keys don't matter. My new phone does have a ton of features that my Blackberries didn't though, and seems to organize notices and other things more "sensibly". The new phones camera is definitely better. The only thing I really miss is the keyboard, I think. And I guess I'll get used to the new one. Eventually. Although it hurts.

the camera is actually pretty good but its not much of a picture camera, think of it as a camcorder camera. its really good at that. the pictures are underwhelming for a flagship but the video is fantastic

Where can I find d mobile?

Loved this phone when new, but because of no updates, mine has gotten slow with bad battery life. Would get another if they would update to run the newer version of Android.

Any GPS app, like Google Maps or Waze would make my Priv super hot, also it restarts after 20-30 mins of any trip, which is very irritating when you need directions while driving. It's pretty slow in comparison to other Android phones. Honestly, rarely use its keyboard. Blackberry dropped support, stuck in Marshmallow, no security updates anymore, though they claim they would update it. Very disappointed.

I love my Priv (I'm using it now). I just can't seem to get into typing on glass. If any phone deserves an update, it's this one. :-)

I bought mine for $100 but not worth it. Leggy gets hot and slow. It cannot be master reset it since it seems it gets worst by soft reset.

I bought my priv in april, 5 months was enough to make me hate it. Its slow, frequently crashes on websites and apps. I cannot turn off the camera shutter sound on my version of the phone! Even when it is on "total silence" the phone makes noises for no reason or explanation and camera is still loud. It often freezes while taking screenshots for a couple of minutes and takes forever to restart or turn on after it was been turned off! The camera does not connect to apps like snapchat or instagram making the photographs quality very poor. My father has an older version of the phone and likes it however its a no for me.

A Priv with a better RAM, newer and faster chipset, latest Android OS, massively upgraded GPU, 6" display- i'd definitely buy that.

If it was at least updated to Nougat, it would've been fantastic. As it is, not too worth it without a way to utilize the big screen and keyboard for proper multitasking. A fingerprint scanner also wouldn't hurt.

I just recently upgraded my PRIV to a Keyone. I loved my PRIV for its physical keyboard. It also had a very nice display. I also enjoyed owning the last BlackBerry made by BlackBerry. But yeah the CPU was terrible. Sometimes I'm not even using it and the phone is getting super hot in my pocket with no apps open. (I assume background tasks) Battery life was almost a deal breaker. I had to modify how I used the phone. No games, limit video watching, and so on. Just to get though a single day. 3gb of ram also really isn't enough, with Facebook and FB Messenger installed I'm lucky to have a little over 100mb of ram free. When I was putting on my IQ Shield screen protector on the Keyone I got as a replacement. It needed to be left alone for a day. So I went back to my PRIV. This time I tried to use FB lite and Messenger Lite. The phone now had around 800mb free ram, and battery life seemed to of improved about 30%! It also didn't over heat in my pocket that day. Maybe luck. Or maybe Facebook was always to blame?! Bottom line is my Keyone Black edition can run the full Facebook apps, game and watch videos to my hearts content and I still get though the day on a single charge. I wanted a Key2, but I'm to poor and got a sweet deal on this Keyone Black edition. I still like my PRIV, but I'm liking this Keyone better. So the PRIV is retired as my backup phone.

The PRIV camera is perfectly fine ! I heard a lot of times people complaining about the COLORS of the rendition... If people had a minimum of knowledge in photography, they would know that the pictures taken by the Priv are in fact VERY natural !! Other phones boost naturally the saturation (intensity) of colors to make them warmer... This is not the reality and these phones, in facts, are taking bad pictures on a professional stand point...

Have one abandoned by BlackBerry after only two years. Much hoopla when released. Glad I abandoned it for a Pixel3 which actually works. The Pixel can actually do something AND charge at the same time. BB - never again.

Personally couldn't care about the "low" performance. It's plenty powerful for me. I'm not a power-user, though.
