Very cool to see you guys branch out into lighting. Like you said, it has evolved so much over the years, and the constant fluidity makes new reviews/content very valuable to the Mobile DJ.
I just bought this lighting package and will be using it for the first time tomorrow night at a Wedding I'm DJing. I've been DJing Weddings for about 22 years now and clearly remember how difficult, cumbersome, and time consuming it was to set up lighting for a Wedding. I needed a new light show because my old one just needs to be replaced; honestly, when it comes to lighting, I was stuck in a time warp. I just knew that a new light show would be just as cumbersome as always. Then I saw this video... OMG! I rushed out to buy the Chauvet GigBar 2. I can't believe the effectiveness, ease of use, and the pricing point you get in this package. This video made me subscribe to the channel. I'm a new fan and am so thankful I found this video.
I appreciate this is an old message. How did you get on with the gigbar 2? I’m just about to get a couple to start my lighting purchases. What do you think please?
Thanks for your great advice & review on this product, it’s bit out of my price range but I can pretty much do the same thing.. with a T- bar, my laser 2 pin mini spots & 2 pars, o.k need another par..etc but can work
One thing I'd like to add that isn't mentioned in the video is that you have full freedom to move the fixtures around. If you have 2 of these and you wanted all derbies on one and LEDs on the other, it will still work.
On a single bar you can have the derbys on the inside, outside, alternate it doesn't matter as the lights dmx address doesn't change. The lights would be internally addressed and the instructions are DMX which is basically a value 0 - 255 that gets sent on a channel. Running all derbys on one bar would mean it would be 2 lights would be addressed the same, so they get the same instruction. sorry if that is as clear as mud but a better explaination would be to link to a "how to use DMX" video.
well, I see that this is 4 years old, but if you're still interested, try American Musical or ZZounds, you can pay off monthly (interest free) and get the gear you want...if you have a phone & a bank account they will approve you...pay $42/month for 12 months and it's yours in 2-3 days...I don't know any of my musician friends that have been turned down. very cool ppl.
Thanks so much for this video. Just spoke to my guy at Sweetwater today and he suggested this. I got two. Good to see them in action. Definitely worth the price by the looks from the video. Did you use fog or haze machines in the video?
I was wondering if this can do color washes with the obey 10? I noticed the settings are extremely limited with the obey 6 (only has 6 DMX channels) even tho it can control 6 fixtures. I couldn't do UV colors bc the gig bar works in either 3, 11 or 20 channels and bc I had the obey 6, I had to use the 3 channel setup...... no UV or whiteout. Bummed.
Thanks for the video. is the foot control battery operated or can it be powered like guitar effects pedals? A little more detail on how the pedal operates (a separate new video) would be cool. thanks
I have a Chauvet Gig Bar and I was using the DMX Master Controller 192 and everything was going fine to program. Now I bought a Chauvet Gig Bar LT, I connected from the Gig Bar 2 to the LT, but when I go to program the controller I have major difficulty, do you know if I need a new controller, or there is a way to set up to control all the lights? Thanks
do I put this unit in front of and pointed at the band? or should it be pointed at the audience? up high, down low, above? My question is..... where is the very best place to put this unit when used alone for a small band with small stage located at one end of a long 18'x28' room?...........thanx.
I just got one. I use it for now mostly on sound mode. My question is if I get another one and I place them both on the same sound mode, will they both do the same thing in sound mode?
Mac Joseph Thanks. I’m just starting out in mobile. Been DJing in a bar on a weekend for 18 months and fancy branching out now. Any recommendations on speakers?
Yes you can! May be difficult to get the same ability to program as say single fixtures. I would set up a few different scenes. 9 Ch mode seems easiest to program. I would use ShowXpress to trigger automated scenes.
Hi thanks for video. I have this great piece of equipment, but unfortunitaly, my laser lock key and remote lock which go into back of bar as per 01:52 on your video have went missing. Is there anyway I can get these replaced or do your have any possible solution of help you could give me. Under pressure as gig coming up and would be hoping to gig for use of gigbar? Thanks in advance. :)
This is the IRC version-I think people interchangeably call both models the "Gigbar" There is a Gibbar LT as well, check it here, you will see the difference: www.chauvetdj.com/products/gig-bar-lt/
Soundwave! Best Decepticon ever! It's a cool unit. I'd rather it have dome type lights instead of those derby lights. And I would absolutely cover up that cheesy looking Gig Bar 2.0 labeling on the front of it.
I wish this was available when I was starting. You get pars, beams, Lasers, and strobes all cable ready! Not to mention wireless foot control, wireless handheld control, tripod strand and case. I fail to see the ripoff part and that's that I'm a ADJ guy with over 40 lights in cases, DMX cables and Wifly everything.
I happen to hate the gig bar. It's over priced and for the same price you can build a "gig bar" yourself with better lights. I don't recommend it to anyone. Underpowered, over priced, cheaply built, cheap looking effects, etc. plus, if something fails it's not like you can swap it out because the lights are kind of dedicated to the system. Sure it's convenient but that's about it.
Bexorcist yes. A 4 bar tri USB is an option. It would give you a nice wash and dance effect plus has power out for a few other fixtures. Has some holes so you could throw a few of those pars on top and hang something on the bottom. Like some scanners. Or something better than the derby effect the gigbar has. Plus, you never want to use lasers or strobes. Lasers are too hard for photographers to edit off dresses and strobes are just too risky. Could cause seizures. I personally love my intimidator 255's IRC's. 60w fixtures. Super bright but not too bright like the 80w fixtures. Brighter than the 12w pocket scans. You could also build a gigbar by mounting a few pars and other effect. Just leave them wired onto a t bar. No fancy carrying case tho.
Imo that's one of the biggest advantages of this bar. I'm an audio gearfreak but I don't know shit about lighting, DMX and stuff, so 2 of these would be ideal for easy transport, cable management and steering, no? Also, I can buy it without VAT :D
Bexorcist tho for the price of two of these you could have a really nice alternative. A 4bar has a foot pedal and if you bought some IRC stuff you wouldn't really have to worry about dmx. Just use the remote to shut them off for slow songs and 1st dance. Plus why pay for two features you should never use? You could get some pocket spots or scans for a price of two of these. Use the ir remote to control them. If you already have some tripods buy some tripod mounts until you can get some totems. Throw two pars under the totems to make them glow. I think pocket scans or spots are only like $299 each. So $600 for two. Saves you room for some pars or something else. Two gigbarf are like $900. I see a two scan bundle with bag, cables, clamps, remote for $399. Or 2 scan 2 barrel, bag, cables, remote, clamps for $799. Can get two spots and bag for $599. Stand, case, clamps, cables, for $688. Idk. I just think there are better options out there but I understand your concerns. I am an old school plug it in and let it do its thing. Sound active and I had a relay pack that would turn 1,3,5,7 on for 10 mins. Then switch to 2,4,6,8 for 10 mins. For slow songs shut it off and leave my slow dance lights on. The movers I have do "totem mode" to keep them on the dance floor. But when you shut them off for slow songs... they still spin to the auto program just not shine. Kind of annoying so I bought a dmx controller. I'm still learning. Only messed with dmx like 3 times now. Seems pretty easy so far.
Fair enough but would'nt it be a hassle to build your setup every time as everything you showed me are individual units? I just want to be able to "plug & play" and save 75 quid on renting 2 x 4 LED pars for the traditional gigs.
