his larger scale work for Japanese instruments and orchestra is "From me flows what you call time", which is similar to November Steps in that the two are definitively separated in the work. Same basic idea but expanded to I think 25 minutes long.
I heard a piece of his on Australian radio called Nostalgia, and was very intrigued by the musical textures, and because of this video just ordered a recording of his music that has that piece and others on it.
I love this album. Indeed I really like all of Takemitsu's work that I've heard. It's so different to basically anything else I've heard, but actually makes sense in a musical manner.
Just to chip in, these are indeed wonderful recordings. I think there were originally three albums - certainly, there are three Denon incarnations of these available from Presto Music for download at CD quality at time of writing (great price too, £2.66 each, which is just over $3.00)
Speaking of Gemeau, if it's the same recording I have (on a different album) the trombonist Christian Lindberg is a pretty big deal for trombonists. Arguably, his recording of Vivaldi's Winter might at least be an "honorable mention" on the most important classical recordings list. It made him a known name (among trombonists, at least) and was a fantastic showcase for the alto trombone, which had for much of the 20th century been ignored.
