Thanks for posting this video. This past weekend I bought my first "grown up" rc- a Traxxas trx4 crawler. With it I purchased the Lectron pro ac/dc 10a charger/battery pack with the 11.1v 5200mah battery. The included instructions left much to be desired and this is the only video on YT which shows the discharge amperage rate in use. I was nervous about going with the automatic 5.0a setting until I saw you do it. Like you said, it's a considerable investment- and it's doing it's thing inside my house... As far as my initial experience with the charger's ease of use along with the battery's performance and run-time, I'm really pleased. Of course, that's coming from the perspective of someone who's fairly new to this level of r/c. I'm also really pleased with the trx4. It's mostly steel chassis and suspension performs very much in the way that my full-size crawler does, which is exactly what I was looking for. The selectable lockers make the experience very realistic. The beef vehicle construction and scale body with all of it's detail was a big selling point for someone like myself who is more of a wheeler than an r/c'er. I bought the trx4 for those times when I can't be on the trail in my full size crawler but still want to wheel. The trx4 will be coming along when I'm wheeling so that when we pull over for lunch I can keep wheeling.
Great, glad it helped. The folowing is my opinion and not advice, it's how we work with Lipos in our shop. I have never had a battery go bad on me, on the charger. Never had an a battery swell on the charger, never had a fire. Not with the previous 8A or this 10A and we are sometimes charging 10 batteries a day. I believe most of the problems are with people not understanding the charger and charging at too high amps, or charging lipos on NiMH setting. All that being said, we never charge a lipo when we are not in our shop. We don't leave them to charge overnight. I don't stand there watching it, but just keep an eye on it. Batteries can get bumped or damaged in the car, or even when your putting them in and out, especially around where the charge and balance leads enter the case of the battery cover. Always be wary of a battery that had been in a heavy crash, especially an RC plane crash. I have had batteries catch fire after a plane crash. Well really they just smoked a lot. This happend when the cells get punctured or there is a dead short. Get the battery out of the house and bury it, or use a Class D extinguisher. Glad you like the TRX4 it's a great vehicle, but quite pricey.
No one in a video yet has pushed the minus button while charging. It has its own menu. What is Capacity Cut-off? and its on 5000mah. What if im charging 6200mah. How can the cut off be changed?
Thanks for a great video. Have been using my Lipos for model boats mainly. Your video makes it clear that I have not been charging the lipos properly. My new charger will help a lot. It's a Keenstone C1, which looks the same as your featured. Do you or your customers have any advice for model boat Lipo care. the internals are subject to a degree of water ingress. I don't know if they have any water resistance. Would a plastic bag surrounding it be possible. I have 3 lipos now showing errors on charging. Many thanks.
Lipo's, especially hardcase, are generally fairly water resistant. If you have water ingress, I would consider trying to minimize that, and perhaps put the battery inside a zip lock bag with a small hole for the power connection lead to come out of.
I just bought this charger, and a Traxxas Revo, can you tell me what I should set it for to charge the radio gear battery pack? I know, dumb question, but all the manual says is it's a 6 volt pack, and it's buried under everything else.
When it is done it will sound a little alarm sound and stop charging. It should not really take more then an hour if you have it setup and the battery information enetered correctly. Unless your charging really big mAh packs. Let us know what you are charging. Thanks. Third Coast RC
@@never-stock-rc2968 Yes, that is what it does. By default it will discharge it quite slowly, if I remember right you can set the discharge rate a little higher. It will also lift the batteries up to the storage voltage if they are discharged after a run. It's does either automatically. Always use storage mode if not running your batteries for several days. Leaving them fully charged is bad for them and will make them swell. Leaving them discharged is also not great for them.
It could be multiple things, but if you have those proprietary batteries with the balance leads built into the main plug, then you will need to not change it on balance mode. Just use Charge mode instead. Traxxas are making it difficult to use anything but their brand chargers and batteries in their vehicles.
It will turn off automatically and sound an alarm when the battery is completed charging. When charging lipos we suggest you always keep an eye on the batteries when charging and always use the lipo mode. Never use the NiMH mode to charge Lipo batteries.
You have a bad cell in your lipo, or a cell that is below the voltage threshold. Instead of using Bal-Chg try use just Charge. That may bring it up. If that does not work, try and charge it just with the main lead on NiMH setting. But not for more than 5 min (you should not charge Lipos this way) that may bring it up above threshold. Then it may charge normally.
