I am a pro player and I love this thing I'm so done with buying expensive effects processors that are hard to work and suck when something goes wrong when I am on stage I just sold my GT 100 and bought me a ME 80 it a perfect tool for me it's easy to use I dig it I couldn't be happier.
I don't think it has a digital tone more like a analog tone it sounds like you are using Boss stomp box effects I love it plus you can tweak the heck out of it and save the patches I highly recommend it for a on the go guitar player and I have had mine a couple of years and I am still digging it I am 62 and the older I get the less I want a bunch of stomp boxes and hard to work processors.
Ofcourse individual pedals sound better, but multi-effects units are for people that want less clutter, or people on a budget that cant afford individual pedals. Also for people looking to experiment with different sounds/effects in one unit. Different people, different markets. Don't bash on a multieffects unit for not having the greatest sound.
One of the supra cool features of that unit is that you can set the pedalboard to keep the pedal preset values when you switch from memory to manual mode. That means, you can discard whatever settings are physically dialed in with knobs and recall pedalboard configs from patches and then switch whatever pedals you programmed on and off. If it had a small screen where you would be able to display patch names, that unit would be perfect. The main issue I've found so far is the fact that cab simulation is only activated by the phones jack. If you want to use the preamp AND use the amp jack output(s) (to use a clean channel from a guitar amp), you must plug in a jack into the phones output to trigger the cab simulation on the amp outputs. A switch or knob to activate the cab simulation would have been a much clever choice as I doubt every user of that unit will go straight to PA through the phones plug (and a mini jack...). Most of us will use a clean amp channel as monitor or simply the amp outputs as they sport regular jack size connectors.
Just bought this in Oct 2020, so first of all, I really like it so far. Im not doing live shows because of the pandemic going on right now, so I’m using it mainly for practicing and home recording. At the end of the day it’s a subjective as far as the sound goes, I would say the amp sims are ok if you don’t have an amp, but I prefer using an amp and bypassing the preamp section, or if I’m recording using other software for amp simulation, like AmpliTube or Bias Amps, but aside from that, there’s a lot of great effects to play with and come up with some really good stuff. So I saw this on Musicians Friend and decided to give it a shot, and I’ve had several multi effect unit for guitar thru the years, some rack mount, some stomp box styles, but what really made me interested were the actual knobs , not digging thru menus to edit effects. That was the biggest selling point for me. The preset mode is nice but I prefer manual mode. This unit came out around 6 six ago but it’s a great buy even in 2020 imo. I prefer it over multi effect pedals that cost 4 times as much , because again, I don’t like menu diving, the thing is like actually have a bunch of stomp boxes , I really like it
Based on this demo, it appears to have the same frustrating limitation that the ME25 has: It has a "left" and "right" output-but all the effects are mono. I use the ME-25 and like it, but it's so weird that it doesn't have stereo reverb, stereo delay, ping-pong tremolo, etc. Even the rotating speaker effect sounds monaural. I was hoping they fixed that in this model, but evidently not.
At last!!!! A really usefull demonstration about how it woks when you use the switches. A pedalboard is exactly what it is " a f.....thing for stomp on it", no hands, change sounds while playing, is the spirit of this stuff. Thank you. Am i crazy or this gear has no jump when you activate the effects? I mean, no sound stops, or skips, or micro delays while activating the switches, and sound changes inmediately?
Does is have an effects loop to add your own favorite pedals and if not, what would be the best way to connect it to your boutique pedals? I find these ME processors to be very convenient, instead of lugging around 20 individual effects and of course individual effects sound better.
This thing's manual mode really could cut on the sections that use Mod and Echo Effect, and instead add another OD/DS pedal in manual as a substitute. Stacking drives is more important, especially if you wanna use your amps clear clean channel as you actually clean tone.
This was a great review. JB is a killer player, who plays chops that a sympathetic to the different tones; unlike Rob Chapman, who just plays the same tired shred licks regardless of the sound. The review is also so much more comprehensive in its content. The problem I've always had with these Boss units is a split-second drop in sound when switching between the patches mid-shred. It's cool that you can add in different effects 'on the fly'.
@@DeaconBlue215 Please, please elaborate on that! i have used mine for 4-5 years and changed to Helix, for different reasons, but one of which is having to have a 50 song setlist working. Will BOSS tone studio play nice with this?
@@christianboddum8783 I only had the unit for a short time and I wasn't familiar with the owners manual.. I have a GR-55 which gives me 99 user presets. You can program the user presets to any song in a songlist. With the librarian, you can rearrange any preset for any song. Save the user preset program to a flash drive. I had 3 different flash drive programs(presets) for 3 different bands I was in. I don't think any of the Boss unitws allow you to overwrite the factory presets.
Man at 2:40 there is just way too much going on. I still really like this multi. It's a great unit. It's better than the ME 70 was just by making a few changes. The upper/lower stomps are great.
I wish he'd get his hair out of his face, but that's just me. I have the ME-70, and it looks liked they have updated some things. The ME-70 is a pretty good unit, and it works for a lot of different sounds. I don't care for the drives that much, but the delays are really good. I suspect the ME-80 isn't that far from it.
I played me70 before,I think me80 same me70,the soud is analog,preamp not ok,stombox very cool,if you want the soud better,put another jack in headphone,just jack,no cable.try it.
Digitech RP355 with a good guitar does the job quite well. Obviously it doesn't sound like an expensive unit like a Kemper modeller or a Fractal AXE FxII , but for a non compromising gigs with rentals amps , it works.
i already use me 70, korg ax300g, zoom g5, line 6 hd500.. i recently bought the me 80 i dont like it hard to tweak to find the sound u want. for me it is the worst pedal fx that boss ever made. trust me.
Funny when people diss multieffects units..i too once boycott the use of multieffects. Now that i know better, multi effcts is a great tool for practice and home/studio uses.
For a guitar player playing in a working band, playing for a stage musical, or most any other real world working gig, they're indispensable. I need to get from ANY sound TO any other sound instantly. I may use three or more presets within one song. I've been using various multi fx's wince the mid 90s. The brand names come and go, but I could never show up to a gig with a traditional "amp" anymore.
These pedals always suck. Best get a nice tube amp, and get pedals one by one. My set up is simple, easy to use: fender tube amp with spring reverb, digital delay, chorus, OCD distortion, Tube screamer, and that's it. I get everything I want from that.
Ali Vonal I’d agree, only there is a huge difference between a ME pedal that runs $300 new and what you are talking about ..... well over $1000 bucks even with a cheap tube amp like a blues jr. A good player can and will make all equipment sound good where as the best equipment available to somebody who isn’t a good player.......just expensive crap
Yup.. I agree with the zoom g5 but it suddenly comes down to it. White screen & hang.Sound is the best, now it is thought to buy multi effects other brands too..?
