just got a deal on a sc5000m. i have heard a bunch of people say they haven't had this much fun playing music in a while and i can confirm it is AMAZING. this is the next club standard. :p

I realise this is very old but just wanted to say I love the way you actually say how dj gear fees and what it’s like to actually use! Pretty much all reviews just run through an endless list of functions that anyone who can read could easily access elsewhere. One of the main things for any bit of kit is how it feels. Thanks

I am glad you said this Mojaxx! I was using them the other day by chance as they were set up in Guitar Center. I ended up with a crowd of people watching me scratch and juggle with them. They feel great and they are SO EASY to mix on compared to my Tech 1200s with Phase and/or controller vinyl with my Rane 72. I guess its the "wow and flutter" that makes mixing on these SO EASY. I wanted to ask, IS IT THE SAME TECHNOLOGY as in the Rane 12s? I get that they are not as portable but if I can mix as easy with the Rane 12s as I can with these, I am going to add/replace the 12s for my 1200s. I can mix very easy on my 1200s with Phase and/or control vinyl with the 1200s but not good enough like a pair of CJDs where I can pay attention to something else while mixing like my drum machine or synth. Is the removal of "wow and flutter" the same on the Rane 12s as the SC5000Ms? You said it's the same technology but is it the same exactly? Like is the Rane 12 the sae as using CDJ controller for purposes of easy of mixing without having to "babysit" the mix. I am sorry for asking the same question 4 different ways but I wanted you to understand. THANK YOU SO much for your reviews. You are always the first person I go to for a review when I am undecided.

Reviewing gear a year later after your first review doesn't sound a bad idea at all! It could show how the product has evolved or not. Specially with "flagship upgradeable gear! By the way, I love your videos!

These SC5000Ms would be my first choice if money were no object. Superb fusion of old and new DJing methods!

Although I'm a vinyl head (bought my Reloop RP-7000s after you've convinced me they are worth their money), I love watching your other product reviews and I'm really impressed by this unit. You clearly love your craft and if there is anyone's opinion I can trust, it is yours.

I absolutely adore the Sc5k M...i started spinning back when Vinyl ruled the roost and when CDJs and controllers came out i automatically assumed that the jog wheel or ‘platter’ would be always spinning....when i realized they didn’t i was Real put out and with a loud PPPPFFFF i basically quit DJing for a long time. Like an asshole my prejudice and ‘Bum-Out-Ometer’ was to the Red and i fell back into just playing drums in bands which continued until about a year ago. I for whatever reason, call it desire to be THE LONE SOUL on the stage performing, (not 3-4 other dudes to have to hope they dont fuck up), call it Love for digital music, call it the love for the art of DJing in general...whatever it was that fired back up the desire to spin made me fall in love ALL OVER AGAIN with the instruments of playing tracks, (CDJs). The Pioneers were obviously THE deck to have and ill be honest, the 2000nxs2s are the ones to really have if youre trying to be serious and become comfy with whats gonna be at 100% of venues youre gonna be playing at, you wont find a set of NDX500s well...Anywhere. I started with the CDJ900nxs which is a bad ass deck, it will perform every bit as good as the 2k but you are limited on features like the track slider, puts you in position anywhere on the track via a slider directly below the wave form screen. Anyway, what im getting to is the GAME CHANGING SC5000M...i am NOT a fan of DENON ive NEVER been a fan. Even when i first started i chose Numark. That prejudice JUST WENT OUT THE WINDOW! I AM BLOWN AWAY JUST HOW MANY FEATURES THESE DECKS HAVE! PLUS........THE GODDAMN PLATTER SPINS! Its about damn time i say! I cannot wait to get either a set of them or just one. Keep my NXS 2s and maybe trade them back and forth as to not get complacent and forget how to use the poineers...Cant wait to see what Pioneer does in response...IF pioneer responds,

This denon sc5000m are amazing we have it for 2 years using every weekend and still work perfect just buy it more now that are on sale

Thank you so much for this review. I have been thinking of buying new gear.I upgraded from CDJ1000s to XDJ-RX2 but after years of use, the xdj pitch fader resolution is shocking. Almost impossible to get a good mix without using sync and that doesn't require constant micro-adjustments (even at +/-- 6). The fact you mention DENONs changed theres to +/- 10 is now making me reconsider. Who has the time to beat grid everything? I mix by ear like most (ex-vinyl) Djs and though im used to adjusted the mix on the fly, going digital is a pretty big step backward imo. Does anyone else share my feelings on this?

I have 2 SC5000 and they are great! They need to focus on Engine Prime software now. 1. I've found no easy way to correct wrongly detected BPM. Tap only is not ideal. 2. It has flexible/dynamic beat grid just like Rekordboxdj & Serato but there is no way to place a down beat marker at a specific location where the bpm changes e.g. using the play head marker as a guide. 3. No batch half or doubling of low BPM e.g. 70 calculated as 140 & vice versa 4. Regarding slow scratches does it still sound "robotic" with the keylock off? A plus of the SC5000M vs the 12 is that if your PC crashes you can still play via USB. Great review and fair play for not just heaping praise.

This made me decide to go for the 6000M. Hope to experience the same kind of fun as you had. Also coming from a vinyl background. Only wondering if my Condesa Carmen V rotary mixer (you reviewed it’s little brother) makes sense when swapping vinyl for lossless audio files. Maybe something that is high quality audio, rotary *and* digital. The RANE MP2015. Your thoughts?

I am really close to pulling the trigger to buy the sc5000 gear. I do have a question though. Will Engine Prime export my tracks so that a Pioneer CDJ will see the ques, ect. if I had to play a club with the nexus gear? Has that happened yet?

Just wondering.... @mojaxx, Have you found any disadvantage using the Motorized platter to the fixed platter in terms of setting up hot cues, moving the quantize grids etc? Seems like a moving platter would be good for performance, but not not so good for slowing down and adjusting settings. Just curious. Wondering which one to buy, the standard or the M version!

I love my Rane 12's, but they can be difficult to mix on all night. What a great honest review. I absolutely love the ending. I will only purchase if they get Serato Native Support.

Hey MoJaxx, I came across a deal on these now. wsa thinking of going for it because ppl say the regular SC5000 platters are not the greatest. Just wondering how you would recomended them at trhis point? with Engine overal nowadays? I was not able to see these players in the flesh yet so... I have 2 questions. 1. If the motor is off does the whole plater just nudges? or still scratches from the top and nudges from the side? 2. Does the active loop, beginning and end points can be short and lenght using the plater, like the CDJ? Thanks for all your hard work

Anybody tried to run these on different mixer for example DJM 900 nexus2?? I'm curious how its compared to the X1800?

my plattern aint as responsive , how can i change that ? and i have liners on my s9 and when i use the denon my liner dont work since im on cd line which i find really boring

I still have a pair of sc3900's and as described, the joy of the spinning platter is still unmatched in compare to a static platter. I can't describe it. Too bad they left the 'pitch dots'of the platter, I love to feel them sliding trough my fingers on the sc3900's. Making that typical TT sound then when pitch bending down. For me i' m still waiting for traktor support, why, because I do not like rekordbox and I do not like the denon software.

the sc5000m setup is 1.000€ less than the sc5000 so would it be worth to safe these 1.000€ and buying the m version instead of the normal? I am not a big fan of the spinning vinyl but it should not affect the mixing at all right?

Mojaxx have you tried using the SC5000M on an angle ? Some DJ's angle them above the mixer for space considerations --- any feedback you can give would be greatly appreciated...

nice review... Denon has been solid since i had 3500's ... and you smiling like a little kid....

the original version of this player was good but the static jogs were too stiff and felt wrong in comparrison to pioneer.Also i was unhappy that they ditched the concept of a spinning platter like the 10 inch ones on the 3700s and the even better 3900s .When they came out with a spinning platter version i was very happy as i have had denons and i liked them more than pioneers because being a bit oldschool i liked a spinning platter.I wasnt bothered about whistles and bells and i really liked the stripped down 3900s because it was a digital turntable way before Ranes twelve.I never managed to get a pair but if i was in the money i still might get a pair but these new ones are greatly improved by the spinning platter.It gives you more hands on interaction with your music which works on an ergonomic and emotional level

Can't wait for the SC5000M -XL with 9" platters like the SC3700, 7" is just too finicky imo.

Right now I’m using mumark ns7 3.I’m seriously thinking about purchasing the rane 12 and 72.After looking at the denon capabilities to use a usb stick and or sd card I’m going back and forth.does the denon play mp4 files on a usb or sd card without a laptop.Thank you for your response

Quality. Sturdy. Best standalone-player? Absolutely. BUT: Not working as a controller! The SC5000M is still not really usable with Serato, at least you won't be able to use it's display.... When I bought them last summer it was not even possible to connect them at all. So, no usage of AbletonLink or whatever - for example to have your TR-8 playing along... There are severe problems concerning the software which Denon still did not solve - they just don't react to the customers at all. Additionally: The Rane12 cannot be compared to the Denon and Pioneer players - the Rane12 is designed as a mere controller (Serato only!) without possibility playing an audio file by itself.

I got to play with this setup a couple weeks after this video went up. I LOVE the hardware, but Denon, please....PLEASE push out more frequent updates for Engine Prime. It's the weakest link in the Prime chain by far and I honestly do not like using it. You can't organize crates (this only works for Playlists and you can't organize tracks within a playlist; it'll always default to song order), importing songs to a USB drive just isn't a good experience, it feels slower than Rekordbox (though they analyze at the same speed), still no smart playlists, still no flexible beat grids. The software is the only reason why I would still pick a Pioneer DJ set over these.

They need to make sc4700 and sc4900!!!! Who’s with me?
