We did level 7 this year. We didn’t love it but it got the job done. My student did learn and we graded assignments together. We didn’t do the assessments. We found many of the lessons confusing. To remedy that we did quick Google searches. We also paid extra for the dvds because we don’t have internet except in my phone. I’m not sure if I’ll use it for future children. I may because with the digital downloads and dvds it will not cost much to print new materials.
Thank you for your video! I used level 2 this year with my eldest child (second grader). I loved how the assignments were broken down into small chunks. This worked great for my reluctant writer. However I did not appreciate that the first half of the year focused only on grammar while the second part only focused on writing. I found the grammar instruction to be insufficient, therefore I added easy grammar as a supplement (love love love easy grammar BTW!!!) my son is close to completing the program and I just don’t feel his writing has improved very much. I’m thinking of trying writing with ease next year since it is focused on “engineering type minds” according to Susan Wise Bauer…and that describes my son exactly! Essentials in writing was also just a little bit too dry for my taste. I’ve started just stapling together copy paper for my kids to write their own stories…and I sort of wish I had focused more on just creative story writing, journal prompts, and oral narration this year. Oh well, live and learn! Thank you again for the review! I enjoy your videos a lot 🙂
There are so many great writing curriculums! Check out the creative writing from The Good & The Beautiful, or I've heard good things about Clear Water Press, Write Shop, or Jump In by Sharon Watson.
Level 8 definitely needs a writing supplementation and we tried this with one child. I tried a different curriculum this year with my child in grade 8.
Do you feel like it would have been sufficient for those willing to pay for the scoring service, since that seemed to be the major hiccup for you? curious
@@OneMamaToAnother Any personal recommendations on better ones? 😊 I'm at the point, I've been using a curriculum for a few years with my eighth grader (son, more left brained,/technical but can be creative) and 6th daughter who is naturally a good writer, but it's starting to seem a bit insufficient. I also have a 4th and 2nd grader. Thank you for your review BTW!
