Have u read A Little Life? Its so good and although many people called it "trauma porn", the story in and of itself is amazing and about 4 guy friends who befriend each other in college and basically grow up together and we see them till they're in their 50's. The story does end up focusing on 1 of the guys as he is the main character of the story and we get to learn that he's the glue of the group and his best friend (who another guy in the group of 4) also becomes a major part of the main character's life as he's the one who sees the consequences of the trauma the main character had experienced earlier in his life. It's just an amazing story about life, friendship, dealing with trauma and the amount of effort and pain someone has to go through in order to deal with their past. Literature fiction may not be your favorite genre but I really do believe that it's become a pretty influencial and important piece of work in this world of storytelling.
It's a fantastic book I'm now half way through my 2nd read through. Another book to look out for if you're open for recommendations, then check out the frozen flame. It's a 5 part series and the 6th is currently being written.
I agree but for one thing, Charlie’s references and (mostly) inner monologue are jarringly out of touch for the time period being written given Charlie’s age. Maybe it’s intentional? Kings target demo is not gen z
I agreed when reading this. But I think it was done at least somewhat intentionally. Charlie's character was not the typical member of his age group. Because of what happened with his mother and the aftermath with his father he was forced to grow up a lot quicker than most. That was my take.
I get what you're saying, but it quite clearly presents in the book - many times and in many ways - that Charlie isn't your average guy of his age. His mothers death, him being the care-taker of his distraught father, and his taking a liking to the works of Lovecraft at the young age of 13. King carefully thought it out, and executed it well; don't doubt it. After all, this was a true labour of love for him since it was a tip-of-the-hat to his legend, H.P.L
@@samuel.j.barker I didn’t go into detail, but I know that. What I’m talking goes well past that plot device. And it isn’t just vocabulary and references, some of which can be accounted for. It’s cadence, its tone, its speech patterns, internal and external… surely you know that these things change across generations? King does not seem to know this
@@Time_Is_Left Then I think you're being far too pedantic, personally. If you're going to criticise the book based on such minute details as generational speech patterns, then no book, portraying a generation different from the author, will satisfy you... As for vocabulary, I personally don't think it mismatched his generation at all; and, idk about you but, I'm of the same as Charlie
@@samuel.j.barker Many authors do so very well. Again, I found that it rose to the level of jarring. Moreover, I am far the only one to talk about this weakness of Kings. I said I agreed with the overall positive review. If you can’t consider and discuss alternative points of view and instead feel the need to be dismissive, there isn’t anything to talk about
