@@Talking_Story I've got the ALC. I would have gotten to it by now, but I've been knee deep in Margaret Rogerson books and just haven't quite gotten to Kelly yet. She's up next after Womb City by Tsamaase though :) I'll let you know.
Mm, I don't know if I'll read this. But I dug the review nonetheless. I didn't know that there were books that could let you down, but here I am now. I might read her short stories first...keep up the good work John! Also tell your son to keep up the good work as well!
“ Two magical bird love” Thank you for making me laugh…on a serious note, sounds like YA or Romantasy. You mentioned moon goddess..King’s Persephone in Duma Key may be more your jam but a light spoiler, no romance in that book! If someone is looking for romance/historical fantasy, nothing better than the first 3 books of Diana Gablon’s Outlander series, book 3, Voyager I finished in one sitting.
I swear, I think you’re right up there at doing reviews on RU-vid. There’s some reviewers I enjoy, but when it comes to talking about books they didn’t like, they get pretty disrespectful. This was such a well put together review for a book you didn’t click with. I really hope you start to get more of an audience as time passes because man, you freakin deserve it. Ps, I hopped on The Five Warrior Angels read along with you guys and recently started book 2. Loving it! #TeamDokie
I'm sorry you didn't have as good a reading experience as you were expecting. At least you stuck with it to the end. In the last few years, I've only abandoned one book. It was a biography of Eva Peron, written by an Argentinian (whose name eludes me). This author is known to have a florid writing style, so when the book was translated into English, it quickly became apparent to me that something was amiss...I knew I was in trouble when it took me four days to get to page 58, all the while shouting "what the hell does that even mean!". It took me about a fortnight to recover from the ordeal 😂
So hard for me to DNF. I want to go on the whole journey even if it is not working on all cylinders for me. I want to appreciate what the artists accomplished and their work.
How are you doing mr john . Thank you for your wonderful cultural literary. I gathered main theme of novel you mentioned and critic review , author biography briefly here it’s book of love plot summary it’s set in small seaside town or loveend . Ma and follow three teens , ( mo , Daniel , Laura ) who return from dead and tasked ( by their seemingly magic high school music teacher no less ) with learning to use magic they each now poses as well as remember circumstances that led to their deaths . I read recent article on Washington post written by American critic ron Charles on 7 February 2024 titled the book of love master of short stories delivers long one . Kelly link has matched outsize interest in her first novel with outsize novel . He mentioned kelly link is genius. That not just my opinion. In 2018 she won 625 , 000 dollars ( genius ) from MacArthur foundation. Her strange and surreal short stories along with books published by small beer press, which she co founded with her husband has transfigured genre of fabul list fiction. In her2015 collection get in trouble was finalist for Pulitzer Prize. Last fall, Washington post named her white cat , black dog one . Of year best works of science fiction and fantasy. It was only story collection to make list . Book of love he wrote at 628 pages is book to contend with, to me that thunders Iam not short story adding tp epic aura.
Doesn't sound like something I would like. A lot of your criticisms sound similar to my criticisms of Ken Liu's Dandelion Dynasty series. He's also an amazing short story writer, so I wonder if that has something to do with how they process and write when they get to long form. Loving the video editing y'all have added to the video though. Very dynamic and fun.
I really do want to get him. I have City of Last Chances on the stack ready to go since it is just 2 books and I can squeeze that in faster than starting a massive series like Shadow of the apt. I do plan on getting to Shadow of the Apt someday. Should I move it up? Is it amazing?
@@Talking_Story Actually I was looking for your opinion on Starting the series as I haven't read anything of the author. I picked up Sandman after your videos and absolutely. So, was just wondering weather you have anything to say anything for Shadow of the apt series as well. I have a question also which was favourite issue of Sandman? Sorry I wrote a lot I don't really have book readers in my circle. Btw, really enjoy your videos please keep them coming.
@@rishabhtomar8413 I love the whole Season of Mists. For single issue I would have to say Midsummers Dreaming I think it is called. You write as much as you want. I will try to get Tchaikovsky on my April list so we can start to see what we think of him together.
