I've currently got this game laid out on 2 tables. Just got the Crisis & Control expansion (for the solo aspect). Sat down on the couch with the manual to learn the State and Middle Class, and this video popped up. The game is quite a bit above my comfort level, but I'm determined to understand all aspects of this game. The color-coding, iconography, quality of all the pieces, and the class interaction makes this one I'm going to play often...no matter how difficult it is for me. And being born in Indiana, Grant's IU shout-outs are a nice addition. Well done guys!
Love that you extended your reach to include this one. I’ve been putting the brakes on getting this one and I wanted a little extra something to finally get it. Coming soon on a table near me! And I’ll second the comment above that I’d watch you review checkers… and why not, marbles too! 😊
Congrats on hitting 17.5K subscribers dudes! Nice work! 🎉 I think you’ll get more views than you expect - frankly I’d watch you two review checkers - you’re hilarious, engaging and thoughtful with your reviews!
my top game of 2023 and instantly into top10 all time, had a blast with it every time. some first timers take way more than 3 hours but it is worth the investment I'd say while it shines at 4, it is definitely playable with 3 or 2. The solo is fantastic but just like with COIN games, I'm missing the banter. Great that you have enjoyed it.
Hegemony is wonderful. I played someone else’s copy as the state and I’ve been itching to get my own copy to the table. Thank you for the added encouragement hahah
IMHO you should refer to these types as "CoSim" (Conflict Simulation) which is the broader category of War Games. It's not a war game (obviously) but it aims to simulate reality to allow players to gain insights into real world problems. I think it leaves the definition of euro games.
Hegemony is in my top 3 games from 2023. Still haven’t tried all of the mini expansion content yet either, but looking forward to trying those out as well.
I really enjoyed the review. We haven't gotten this to the table yet because we know we need 4 players. I think we will bring it to the next con we go to. I can always tell now when you have had a review in the can for awhile because of the old table. Keep up the great work guys. Love the channel.
Another great review gents! Alexander, near the @18:22 mark, you mention a game called Weimar. Is this the one you're talking about? Weimar: The Fight for Democracy, designed by Matthias Cramer
I'm glad you guys reviewed this game. It was my #2 (non-wargame) game from 2023 behind John Company. It's certainly not your typical "point salad" euro game. Although I feel it needs to be played with all 4 players to really shine.
11.29 classes and what they value and how they go about it and and we're all in one of those classes right I and we've all been in different ones of them throughout our lives. Never said by a British person. Haha.
Is this game soloable only as 2 factions? Does that limit replayability? Does it make it feel like you bought a game and only get to play effectively 50% of the content in the game?
It should not work. It should be sooo dry and boring. When I hear it was designed by actual economists, I thought Zzzzz. Yet, it is fantastic, one of the best games of 23.
There is much more player interaction in Brass, Great Western Trail or let's say Concordia than in any I go - you go wargame. Sure, let me interact with you but only after I wait 45 min for you to move all your fiddly counters 1cm on the map. That is the definition of boring. I love you Alex, but you couldn't be more wrong and a little pretentious. Open your horizons, if you love Hegemony there is a whole world of great, interactive euro games out there. Sincerely, Omnigamer
Why did you only come to this channel to dismiss wargames? Just go away with your dry and boring eurogames. Oh and before you say I should expand my horizons, I've tried many eurogames and apart from Spirit Island, I don't like any of them. Eurogamers are really the pretentious types out there, dismissing dice rolling and Ameritrashy games. So yeah, there's that.
