This ended up being my favorite out of the recent releases of retro style shooters. Ion Fury really hits the mark for what it was trying to do.

To think the main criticism the Rock Paper Shotgun review had was... the level design. Sigh...

That review was terrible. It basically amounts to "level design is bad because levels aren't linear shooting galleries and I get lost".

Great review, I loved the game too. I disagree on one thing though, the final bossfight was really fun and difficult on UV. Took me a few hours to beat it.

One of the very view positive reviews you made. I have to say that i have to agree with you on every point you make. I really hope there will be a second part and they will improve creativity of the weapons and the jokes of bombshell.

Jarek4Gaming loves it, DW Terminator gives it an 4.5 out of 5, GManlives highly recommends it. SOLD!!!! Now waiting for it to come out on PS4 because I'm too cheap to buy even an level entry PC😩. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well!

What are your thoughts on critic reviews? Like from IGN, Gamespot, Polygon, and Kotaku among others. Do you agree with their opinions or what?

I actually like Duke Nukem Forever, and yeah it wasn't trying to be "Duke Nukem 3D, the 2nd one." It was its own thing as far as gameplay was concerned, following the trend of most other 2011 FPS games.

@@DWTerminator True, but they were recent entries of old-school shooters falling into obscurity through trappings of modern shooters at the time both released.

@@UnchainedEruption Fair enough. I honestly find it to be a poorly misguided slog with lousy pacing and gameplay elements that don't mesh well. Though I'm glad you got any mileage out of it, I honestly stopped around the Hive level. Not out of rage or shock, but because I was just bored.

What would you say is some of your favorite FPS games released in 2010-19? Nice review by the way.

To name a few that come to mind... Dusk, Ion Fury, Amid Evil, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, BioShock Infinite (particularly if you include its DLC's), Deus Ex: Human Revolution & Mankind Divided (if you count them as FPS's). To be fair though, I haven't played every FPS released throughout the decade and have a lot of catching up to do.

well, I can't find Blood on Steam, I at least have Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition, and it doesn't seem like I can run this one on my current rig anyways. Although, at least it's one I don't really have to be in a hurry to play.

You can't run this game on your current rig? What are your specs? Not trying to come off as rude, it's just that being this is a build engine game, you should be able to run this game even if you had a current day low end computer, hell you could run this game on a few generations old pc.

Rare to see you actually like a game, man. I really liked the variety of enemies offered by the game. Very Quake-like in that respect. My only complaint is that the ammo drops are a bit scarce on the higher difficulties. Some of the higher tier weapons like the ion bow could get a bit of boost in damage to make it more useful from the sniper shotgun. From the way it fires I'd expected an Insta gib rail gun kind of weapon. The mini gun could get the slightest of boosts too.

The weapon sound usually does not seem to be what it should be. It's actually kind of strange. ^^

I totaly agree with that. The shotgun needs much more uumpf and some other weapons also sound a bit lame. I already did search for a mod to change some of the weapon sounds.

Is it truly possible, we get a Minigun that does actual damage? I cant even remember the last game with a viable minigun. When i look at Failout 3/4 or Doom 2016, i have the urge to puke when using their piss poor rotating pee shooters.

@@RegBeta Just because humans and chimpanzees are close cousins doesn't mean we are chimpanzees. Besides wolves and dogs also have very different behaviors. There's a reason we cannot have pet wolves the same way we can have pet dogs.

Why you didn't mention shitty sounds of guns? Especially revolver, it sounds pathetic. I am confused for you giving so much shit about "beefy" sounds in games but you are ok with this?
