Janet Jackson is my favorite female artist of all time and I’m so glad she is finally getting her due. Her influence and legacy is astounding. Also, The Velvet Rope is a FANTASTIC album and it’s a must-listen for any black LGBT R&B or pop fan.
@@raycarter8070 I think part of it has to do with Madonna not letting people forget that she exists, while Janet is perfectly fine being out of the spotlight. But I don’t really know many late millennials or Gen Z who know either of them particularly well. I’m honestly the biggest Gen Z Janet fan I know lol. You’re more than likely to hear people talk about Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, or even Lady Gaga than Janet and Madge. Whitney is put on a pretty high pedestal though for numerous reasons.
This was really good indeed. I’m glad Rene shared his behind the scenes footage. FYI, I’m the guy holding the two concert tickets for the first Rhythm Nation concert in the documentary. I pray they release it on dvd.
Janet will forever be THAT GIRL!! I love that Renè recorded all that behind the scenes footage...not used to seeing her like that. You knoooow Lifetime came through with a hell of a deal for us to get all that. Side note: those movie commercials might have me back on Lifetime on Sunday's lol
I’m so glad that the mystery child rumor was cleared up. For Christiana james debarge’s daughter to speak about something she heard and then make it her storyline on love and hip hop was trash.
This documentary was well put together. I love seeing her Mom Katherine. The story when she said Michael came into her room and said nothing was showing the shift between sibling rivary and competition in the biz. To see the rhythm nations concerts and the girls dancing and dressed like her. 👍🏾 I cried 😢. Brought back memories! I want to see her relationship with her ex husband and boyfriend? She paid Renee $15 million settlement for creative in her career. Jermaine didn't want to move to Malibu. Also, I love how they kept the family house in Gary Indiana a museum. Good review 👍🏾
I love Janet. She’s an icon. As a Jackson fan, I didn’t learn a whole lot of new information but appreciated the behind the scenes look. I died when Terry Lewis peaced out before the argument with Jimmy Jam and Janet popped off.
I don't think the intentions of the documentary was for her to empty herself out digging up EVERY SINGLE old controversy because that's enough to cover the whole 4 hours I think she wanted the sun to shine more than she wanted it to rain on her documentary so she was very selective that's not unrevealing that's called being smart why would anyone want her to do that anyways she touched on a lot of important things maybe the things she didn't mention she didn't think needed correcting maybe she was okay with what people thought of those things but the things she wanted to express feelings about she did so
Stan is not the word. Love Janet. Always have always will. Watching this was so nostalgic to me. Love will never do without her. Rhythm nation album, every single song my Favorite, then the Janet album.
Till this day, my mother doesn't like the actor who played Joe Jackson because he did such a great job, lol. The American Dream is a much watch series. So good!
I'm a really big fan of The Jackson Family I remember when Michael Jackson pass away in 2009 I was so heartbroken I really wanted to meet Michael Jackson because I was a big fan of his music I also was a big Fan of Janet Jackson Their music got me through so much through the years Now that I'm 24 years old I really appreciate The Jackson Family and the songs that they created
I think it was nice how they showed more of Joe's human side instead of just viewing him as this iron fist monster. I think that was nice of them to do for the first time. Because baby LeToya make him sound like he was the absolute devil back in the day! So I was nice to hear him painted in a different light for a change.
I stayed up because I KNEW you were coming through with the Janet review. 😂😂 My fellow Janet stan, I appreciate you 🤗 Favorite Album: Velvet Rope Favorite Song: Love Will Never Do (Without You) First Concert: Velvet Rope
Janet & Michael are my all time favorite entertainers and I hated how the music industry disrespects them. Til this day I HATE Justin Timberlake for leaving Janet high and dry to take the fall for the Nipplegate of the 2004 Superbowl.
I love me some Janet Damita Jo Jackson!! Part one was good. We need to thank Rene for the footage because he got it all. I’m so glad she told her story her way. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Btw The Velvet Rope is my favorite Janet album too. That era was everything to me.
Ashley this is why I love you sis! Part 1 was amazing. Ready for part 2. Living Legend baby! Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer. The Velvet Rope is my favorite album by Janet also.
I will never forget the 1st tv concert of Janet I ever saw, it was the The Velvet Rope Tour and ever since I've been a Janet fan ever since. And I've been a Jackson Fan since I was little. And Ashley keep it going another great Review.👏👏👏👏🙂 Can't wait for pt2
She just wanted to go to college and live a quiet life….she talked about everything after like I did what they told me and just looked sad like she’d give all that fame up to be that college girl
She's still humble, and sweet. Multi Talented, her and Michael ' one of the best female artist ever!...I concur with Ashley, I wouldn't want the famous life with everyone in your business. Not trusting, but I think Janet would have been a awesome business Attorney, because of the way she is on stage. 👍👍 Janet Jackson is still one of the best!🤩
I've seen 💋Ms. Jackson💋 up close and personal in concert 3 times. On her last tour PRE COCO, we made eye contact SEVERAL times...while I was breaking it allll the way down for her. What a mesmerizing electric force, she is! Legendary is truly an understatement. I love, love, love Janet. 💋🔥💯
J-5 was my first concert too and back then the tickets, if I remember correctly $7.00 and on that bill was Tavares and Natalie Cole..I was 10 or 11 maybe 72 or 73 my memory is fading but not that concert because I almost got into a fight trying stay up front in front of the stage. Because Baybee when they announced the J-5 it was pandemonium! They had a rope I was hanging on to not to lose my place! They told us to move back or they were not coming out! The crowd pushed us from behind that made us go over the rope that almost had us touching the stage, it took them about 15 min of yelling telling us to get back and nobody moved! They couldn't control it they called them out anyway and before it was over with I WAS IN THE BACK!!!! LOL! THEY PUSHED MY LITTLE BEHIND OUT THE WAY AND I WAS TRYING TO FIGHT THOSE BIG TEENAGERS TRYING TO GET MY SPOT BACK TO NO AVAIL!!! LOL. I WAS MAD BUT ENJOYED IT.
One of my 1st concerts was the Jackson 5 my old cuz took me and my sister. I can't remember the opening act i can just remember being mesmerized by the performance. And when they left the stage I yelled out Jermaine's name and he made eye contact oh that memory and I'm a old girl too.🤗
Can't wait for the second part.. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JANET!!! ❤ everyone knows how private she is ..so this documentary is great! The part with James debarge you can see still really hurts her 💔..
I worked a listening party for her Janet album at Commander's Palace in New Orleans; I thought I was going to be star struck but to my surprise I wasn't at all. She spoke to me, asking me if I saw Renée and vice versa. I was very composed and myself. She's truly a down person.
Kinda wild how RU-vid was started partly cause one of the founders as a college student wanted to see the Janet Jackson Super Bowl clip, and now here we are on RU-vid talking about it 😆
I have tears in my eyes. I will always respect and love Ms. Jackson. A living legend 🙌. The definition of an icon. 😢 Team Janet. Today, tomorrow and yesterday. Great documentary .
I was in the first grade & about to turn 7 when the Velvet Rope Tour premiered on HBO I’ll never forget that moment. Even before then during the Janet. Era (which is my favorite era of hers) I remember her videos & I always wanted to dance like her. One of my cousins use to tape a lot of her stuff & we would practice the moves when we were young. This generation will never be able to understand why people like us go nuts when it comes to someone like Janet. Like she has one of the most beautifulest smile. Huge fan I’m glad she is doing this can’t wait for part 2.
AzariW8 lol Ikr that chair scene gets me every time. I remember my brother who’s older than me him & I use to practice the scream choreography. Needless to say eventually one of my moms vases got broken & we were the ones screaming from a whopping lol
I was just watching the Velvet Rope Tour on RU-vid and it brought me back to when I had 1st watched it on HBO when it came out. I was happy dancing and singing in my room like a big ass kid lol.
I was just going to comment about the DeBarge brother's daughter on Love & Hip Hop talking about Janet's supposed daughter. I had forgot all about Renee. When Janet got with Jermaine Dupree it messed her music up. 😎 They will probably address that in the next part. Janet was probably one of the first to cross over acting and singing.
Girl I had to sign up for a free 3 day trial of Sling to watch the Janet doc once I saw your video. It was good. I love that they included personal videos that her ex husband filmed over the years. Seeing her and Michael write "Scream" was beautiful. 💔
Janet was definitely down playing the abuse by Joe. It was also interesting that Randy kept referring to Joe as "your father" when he was talking to Janet.
I don't think she was. She put it all in perspective. Without Joe, there would be no Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, and Janet. He believed in his family and didn't want his kids in gangs as they lived in the murder capital of the US. Also, Janet was the youngest. She most likely didn't experience the same Joe because they already made it out the hood before she hit the age of 2-3 years old.
@@RP.123 Janet did an interview when she released her book years ago and said that one of her earliest memories is getting out of the bath tub and Joe whooping her with a belt. She was around 3 or 4. He was abusive and cruel. Plenty of parents disciplined their kids without going to the extreme. They were all terrified of him.
Hey sis, love your channel. I am a true Chicagoan and the ultimate Janet fan. Me and my puffy cheeks was Janet every Halloween from ages 6 to about 11. My 40 year old ass still know the dance moves to all videos from Control to All for You, and I can still kill it! Shout out from Chicago!
Alright is sublime . My favorite Janet album is probably Rhythm Nation. The ballad trilogy at the end is probably my favorite run of songs ever. I really enjoyed the doc. I can’t wait for the next parts. I definitely think she was reserved when talking about Joe Jackson, but I get it. He’s her father and she loves him, even if she didn’t love all of his ways. I’m so conflicted. Without Joe, we wouldn’t have the Jacksons, Michael or Janet. Most of his kids probably would’ve gotten lost to the streets, including Michael… But he was really tough, and I definitely felt like he was pushing his kids more for him than them
Let me say something. I'm happy to see Janet finally let her guard down. We come from a strong ppl and are taught to live by that. To not openly cry even though some times it's warranted. I think we need to understand it's ok to show our emotions. We are human and we have feelings, too.
My first concert was The Velvet Rope. I was like 7. I wept when it was over. Never saw anything close to that level of showmanship until I saw Beyoncé. I will stan for Janet until I die!!!!
I think it’s cool we have actually seen a Grammy. You know an actual award. Rather than just on TV. I loved that backstage stuff of Janet’s things too.
I just watched part one this morning and I enjoyed it. I’m glad that she is yet again controlling her narrative and what is said about her in terms of her life on her terms.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s, I’m an old millennial, Janet was a big part of my childhood, I went to the Rhythm Nation tour when I was a kid wearing my floppy black pants and hitting them dance moves. 😂 Can’t wait to see this documentary, she’s one of the last great mega stars, when everyone in your family could watch and enjoy the song without profanity. Glad she gets to tell her story in her own words.
Yes Velvet Rope was the ish. Girl I had second row seats at rhythm nation concert dancing in the chair. She definitely saw us at that concert. I had the time of my life.
koko She didn't dance around that situation, since she spoke honestly about taking birth control pills and gaining weight.. There was no mystery baby!!!
I grew up in the 80's and 90's so Janet and Michael was my favorites. Especially Janet's Rythm Nation album was one of the albums that I played all the way through without skipping a song. I even tried to learn all of the dance moves from 'miss you much'. I will have to watch the replay cause I tried to watch it live but, I had to stop the show and go put my little one to bed so I missed a chunk of the story. Overall, it was pretty good and I can't wait to watch the rest of it.
Yea I watch , growing up hip hop , I remember That storyline of the secret baby , her whole storyline was horrible Seems like she was just a love interest for boogie and romeo
I love the Jacksons I feel like they don't get enough respect for what they contributed to the industry and say that they are living off of Michael when it is also their last name and they was all in a group before Michael went solo. I was excited when it was announced that Janet was doing a documentary. I also feel like she don't get enough respect either Michael's fans treat her like they do the brothers and don't seem to realize that they are using their family name even though like she said she wanted to stand out on her own but people kept bringing him up. They also think that they know what is going on in their lives and if Michael was close to them or not and is getting mad when she spoke about Michael teasing her. They think that her and Randy had something to do with Michael's statue being taken down when they visited in the documentary people said not long after they left his statue came down. I am glad that they have the Hard Rock Cafe in Gary Indiana and that the guitar at the front or one of the entrances is Joe Jackson's the one Tito played and broke the string that they have displayed. I am glad that it is mostly dedicated to the family and I can't wait until people are able to post videos of the museum. I enjoyed seeing never before seen videos of the brothers when they first moved to California among other videos. It was sad that they did not have a good experience in Encino but I am not surprise it reminds me of what Jackie's son Siggy said when he and his wife was on Taj Jackson's live on RU-vid with his wife also and he told stories on people being racist to them until they fount out who their family was. They told one when they was with their moms and someone started being racist to them I forgot what they said but I enjoyed I guess we can call it an interview but they shared amazing stories I love watching Taj's interviews and Brandi's and them together I love to hear from any of the family tell stories about their parents, aunts, and uncles as well as grandparents. It was sad that Janet had to fight off pregnancy rumors whether back than and even now with them trying to say that both of her nieces could be her daughter and that Rebbie was raising her or she gave her to Randy or Jackie just because they especially Stavanna looks like her they all look alike you can look at one of them and can tell that they are Jackson's. I hope this puts the rumors to rest now. I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
Well said. The Jacksons were a collaborative effort. Tito with the guitar, Jermaine was the original lead singer followed by Joe’s vision. I hate that Mike’s so-called fans discount the other family members.
2300 Jackson Street yass that's my song. Lol I love your review. Seeing you so excited 😂 yass that's love and a fan. I'm the same way. Again is one of my emotional Janet songs. I have to cry everytime I hear it.
Janet is forever that girl! Serving Black Girl Magic for decades!❤️ I’m thankful that she shared her own story! Kudos to Lifetime for getting this one done right!🥰
Y’all notice all these Mega Superstars, like The Jackson’s, BeYonce, Venus and Serena, Madonna, and so on Complain their Father was the Meanest and pushed them so hard, but it Paid Off !!!!!, Kinda😡🤡🤡🥰🥰
I LOVE ALL OF JANETS ALBUMS MY FAVORITE ALBUM IS ALL FOR YOU ERA THAT ALBUM GAVE ME LIFE EVEN THOUGH I WAS 9 YEARS OLD AT THAT TIME.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved it!, I’m surprised she was sooooo vulnerable !, it was hitting hard when Janet said “ she keeps attracting Men who do drugs”??? I’m wondering if All the men like Rene, Bobby, and her new husband !!
LOVE 💘 LOVE 💘 💘 JANET IS THE BOMB STILL!! HAD ME UP HERE LOL 😆 CRYING 😢 💃 DANCING SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES 👍 👌 CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PART 2!! THANKS 😊 JANET JACKSON 😘 ❤ 😊 💕 💖 💙 😘 ❤
@@1sotrue Yes. He was claiming he wrote half of Rhythm Nation, Janet album and Velvet Rope and other shit. With that said, I appreciate him letting some of those old videos be on the doc, though she probably had to pay his scrub ass for them!
Janet and James do not have a child together but there is something to a secret daughter. Also Rebbie never said she didn't raise Janet's baby. She actually looked nervous when she was responding to the interviewer
The documentary was good to me, some people feel like she’s not being completely truthful or telling everything they believe should be told but either way, if somebody is doing a tell all of their life & career, in general, I don’t believe you’re gonna actually tell all of your dirty laundry. Some things are best to take to your grave, at least that’s my opinion. And I didn’t know you were a Capricorn just like me, ayeeeeee!!! Lol. Fun Fact: My mothers side of the family is originally from Gary, Indiana but moved to Milwaukee, WI before I was born. My grandmother actually went to school w/ Rebbie & Jackie Jackson. And my cousin Johnny Porter Jackson was actually the drummer of the Jackson 5, he died back in 2006 because he was stabbed by his then girlfriend. By this time, I was like at least 8 or 9 years old, I didn’t go to the funeral but my mothers side of the family went back to Gary for the funeral & the Jackson’s actually came to the funeral, all except for Michael & Janet. And back then, my mother use to record everything on a handheld cam recorder & I remember watching the video w/ my own eyes, the camera recorder is somewhere in my mothers closet, they even filmed the old Jackson’s house before the gates were placed around it. Just a little family history.
I had the opportunity to meet her for Damita Jo cd signing. I was tripping. Met Beyoncé at a Janet concert in Houston. I been loving Janet a looooooooong time!!!! I'm also a Jackson fan!!!!!!!
I would have loved if Rene would said something in documentary. I think it is sad how Janet and Rene divorced and it seems like they are not friends now. Her best work was with him in a sense.
