Okay...from 12:00 or so on you address my question(s). I think you're really working hard to justify the Gibson purchase by saying it can do old-school blues/jazz a bit more authentically than the I 35 LC, though. ;) But, I get it. I'm addicted to guitars, too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the I-35 LC Vintage. I've been wondering if it's worth the extra money, and if it sounds any different than the regular model. Part of the sound difference could be the pickups.
I have a next closest thing to a '59 reissue. An ES-335 P90 Custom from a limited run back in '07. The body is identical to the 59, the neck is 60s slim taper, but dot fretboard. The price was a great deal back than, it was significantly cheaper than the 59 with humbuckers. The guitar is fantastic.
Ive just bought one of these. REALLY nice. I also have the 64 and they are different guitars particularly in sound. Guessing the nylon bridge of the 64 makes a difference
You have (had??) that blonde Collings I-35 LC, so what is (was?) lacking about it that made you want the Gibson? Or did you add this one to the collection in addition to the Collings? (Still watching the video as I type this, so maybe you address that question! lol)
I got my husband the custom 1959 ES 335 in Blond for his birthday recently. I was reading something about using a special guitar stand because of the finish on this guitar. Do you know anything about that?
