There’s a new AI progress note generator called Clinical Notes AI and it provides a ton of options if you’re thinking of using AI for therapy notes.
In this video Dr. Maelisa McCaffrey of QA Prep reviews Clinical Notes AI, one of the AI progress note generators created specifically for mental health professionals.
She discusses the basics, like how it works and how much it costs, along with favorite features of the platform and some concerns for therapists using Clinical Notes AI. Lastly, she’ll share how well this AI platform for counselors actually wrote a therapy progress note.

Thank you for this overview!! Very helpful! I just did a demo with them and they have added the customization feature allowing the clinician to limit the length of the casenotes and they are going to add the ability to integrate with Simple Practice "soon."

Awesome! I had a feeling Simple Practice would add a feature like this soon, wonder how long til this occurs? 😊

A small note :)) If the voice is transcribed that means that the tool does record the audio. It is technologically not possible for it to transcribe without recording. So now the question is if they delete or store recordings :)

They delete the dictation if you don't choose to keep it within 24 hours.

Our ambient technology captures the conversation during your session, creating and formatting the note for you. The audio is not saved. You cannot listen to a session recording; it is only used for transcription.

I am trying his one out, and it's simple and straightforward, but I like to use my text input to pour into a note, as I would do with regular AI. I don't do well dictating, as I think while I write, and I simply do not feel comfortable recording a session no matter how many times someone tells me it's HIPAA compliant. Which one do you recommend in this case? Maybe I do have to get more relaxed with just skipping around during my dictation, as you say here, and feel free to circle back several times to things I forgot ;-) You don't have to email them for the BAA. It's under your profile. I am trying several formats and different things to include or exclude, and find this quite useful. Also, it's the least expensive for basic membership compared to others.

Considering ChatGPT is not HIPAA compliant I wonder if it is ok to use if we leave out identifying info?
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey 5 месяцев назад
Check out my video specific to ChatGPT - it’s okay for generic stuff like creating a template to use with clients, but not okay for using with individual clients. It is impossible to “de identify” something enough that it is both confidential and useful.

So, is something being HIPPA compliant the same as being approved by your board? If not, how do we find out whether it is approved by the board?
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey 3 месяца назад
HIPAA is a law and legal standard in the U.S. Your licensing board controls quality standards for professionals and they don’t usually “approve” or recommend specific services. Instead they would regulate a professional who, as an example, used a technology service inappropriately which led to some kind of client harm.

Does Clinical Notes AI work with telehealth sessions?
@MaelisaMcCaffrey

At this point I think it still has to listen, so you’d need to not use headphones

No. You have to use another app to record the session and then it gives you the option to upload the recording to produce a progress note. Freed Ai is best for progress notes.

It will also offer key insights and make other diagnostic suggestions based on your session. We would love to demo the platform for you!

Great video - even though they don't store the transcript, do they store the outputs and use them for training? Are they using Open AI to generate the notes (some companies aren't clear about what AI system they are using).
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey 5 месяцев назад
These are great questions! I recommend asking them directly, and I’ll do the same. My understanding is most companies are using the same base AI system and then adjusting it.

@@MaelisaMcCaffrey Great question indeed! We're using multiple fine tuned and trained LLM's in a HIPAA compliant environment depending on the selections chosen. We leverage the transcripts by deidentifying the data from the clinician and removing any PHI but we save the choices by the clinician of the note types for "human in the loop" categorization to continue to improve and train our systems.

@@MaelisaMcCaffrey I think the base AI system is GPT (we really need greater transparency). Such new and evolving technology and not enough regulation :( oh well.

@@ClinicalNotesAI-hp3ow Hi. I'm looking into all of the great and wonderfully informative options Maelisa is presenting for our AI note taking needs, and have a follow up question for you at Clinical Notes AI... I know you are HIPAA compliant, but does your company have a dedicated cyber security professional on staff with the background needed for this type of app to secure the information we provide? It is of the upmost importance that I and my clients feel secure. Thank you.
