IS-M can be opened from the IS level 7 tank, and after it in the development branch comes Object 705 and the top of the entire tree of “Soviet sneakers” - Object 705A!
So, what we have: good damage per minute at level 8, poor mobility, good turret rotation speed, terrible visibility, good HP. Just as the developers are positioning this branch, this is a melee assault tank; all performance characteristics hint at this. We will not be able to highlight the enemy and will not be able to quickly change flanks in battle, which is why we are faced with a typical representative of a tank of one direction. But what can stop us from fulfilling this role?!
Here lies the biggest problem when leveling up this tank. The IS-M has only 2 guns to choose from: the stock one from the IS and the top-end one. And if with the stock one you have to suffer due to a colossal lack of armor penetration, then by installing the top 122 mm D-25BM gun, you will also not have enough armor penetration against the game at 10 levels. 212 mm is the standard armor penetration for a basic shell at 8 damage, but 240 for a premium one is absolutely not enough to penetrate highly armored targets in the game. As a result, we will often be powerless in battles with 10 levels.
Again, it all comes down to the fact that we were given good armor for level 8, both the hull and the tower, but against level 10 it’s all useless. And you need to know about this.
Advantages and disadvantages of IS-M
We’ve figured it out in general terms, highlighted several strengths and weaknesses of this machine, and now let’s add some specifics and break everything down point by point for clarity.
Pros:
• Excellent one-time damage;
• Good turret rotation speed;
• Good armor with rational slopes;
• Good amount of HP;
• High DPM.
Minuses
• Low armor penetration when playing with 10 levels;
• Poor accuracy;
• General slowness of the tank;
• Low visibility.
It all depends on what level of fighting we get into.
When playing at the top and against 9 levels, we can safely go to the main flanks, tank and push through directions, because the armor and armor penetration of our gun will be quite enough, the main thing is to get there on time. When playing with 9 levels, it is already worth focusing on the setup, and supporting allied nines if necessary.
Standing in the bushes and shooting the enemy from afar will not be easy for our TT; the lack of visibility and poor accuracy of the gun will make themselves felt.
When playing with 10 levels, we can only play the role of a support tank, since our slowness and low armor penetration will make us a very easy target when playing against super-heavy tanks and well-armored vehicles. At the same time, at 10 levels our armor will no longer be considered a threat. Nevertheless, we will be able to provide all possible support to the allied tops in the top or another direction and make our contribution to the victory.
