David Burke Yeah he was thinking, I have friends waiting on me, my wife is about to have a baby, my office just called me into work, I gotta hit the head, Dude did you feel that earth quake.... lol
I've been a rider for many years and always been intrigued by the hayabusa and loved the looks of it. After watching this I'm going to take a closer look at owning one. Thank you for your videos and been a long time fan of you project.
I drag raced GSXR bikes for years, nothing competed with it, nothing. I owned two 750's, and an 1100, just scary fast.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience on this awesome bike, I appreciate it sir.
My father once owned one, he bought it from a Repossession site for about $3,000. It was an older model than this, but it was a monster. I loved the bike, supreme ride, comfortable back seat, and great handling. He would take me out on rides, and it was a lot of fun. He traded it in around 2012 for a Honda RC 51 1,000 RVT (The Ducatti Killer). I did shed a tear, because the 'Busa was a huge staple in quality time spent with one another (my father is a single parent, and he never had a lot of free time).
Really enjoyed this review and it was a long time coming (been waiting since your 1000miles in one day video)! I too find the Hayabusa to be a beautiful-looking bike, but I won't own one until I get more riding experience under my belt.
I'm on my second busa, first got stolen when I was deployed overseas. And your right no matter where I go it's a conversation starter, I did put a 330 6" over with a outside drive on the rear.... but no matter what this is the bike to have in so many ways it's not all for show
This review comes at the perfect time. I am in the market for a bigger touring style bike, I had not considered the Hayabusa before, now I am. I am not brand myopic and neither are the guys I ride with, we have Harley Honda Yamahas Suzuki and even a aprilia. I am considering everything from a Street glide to a YFR 1300, and thanks to you I am considering Hayabusa.
I recently picked up a 1998 Honda Vfr interceptor in Nampa, Idaho. I made the 650 mile round trip because I knew I wanted it. The mileage was relatively low (30k) on the odometer. That's low for a Vfr of the fifth gen. The first time I rode it, I was in love. Knowing the potential that this machine has as a sport touring cross the country bike, I had to buy it. The prior owner even waited a month for me since I was away for work and could not get to his place sooner. I am a happy owner of an awesome street bike that is both comfortable for long hauls as well as quite capable for sportier riding. A previous owner installed heated grips, purchased Corbin seats (even though the original Honda seat was part of the purchase and I still have it), and there is a battery condition led light that has a green yellow red indicator. I love the gear-driven cam whine, the v-four power plant is very well adapted for the street from the homologation race bike it was bred from...., I think the rc-46. The single-sided Pro arm, 'elf'-produced swing arm is sexy. And last, but not the least, Honda reliability. I love this bike. Now, time to get a few miles in before the long wait for Spring to begin again.
FishingTheGreatLakes Afraid the inside joke didn't get explained here. When it first came out the name sounded like a fiero body kit or off-brand ferarri, over time all our in-joke permutations bled over into it. Pretty sure he did it without even knowing. -TD
I bought the 2007 Kawasaki ZX-1400 Ninja new. This was the first year that the ZX-1400 out performed the GSXR to take the crown. but both are the awsome
I had a 2010 zx6r that got stolen last year , Id personally buy a zx10 or a touring bike over a hayabusa but power to you nutn didn't know you were into bikes for years. Im glad you wear the gear so many Americans in jeans and sneakers, I ride a mv 920 as my daily in Australia anyway as always love the videos. You should try a naked bike with a sports bike engine some time , they are comfortable , fast and really fun in traffic, i wouldn't buy another super sport
Didn't know you had a Busa Nutn. Especially with over 10K miles on it. I have over 50K miles on my 08 Busa. LOVE IT! Been watching your vids for years. Keep it up!
Great vid nutn. Have you thought about doing a vid for beginners to motorcycles? You could cover good starter bikes, what to look for in purchasing your first bike and safety gear. Just food for thought. Keep up the great work.
i drive a hayabusa as a daily vehicle, i have no other vehicle and i have put 14500 miles in year. love it. its nice being the boss on the road. SD, CA
I rock a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 cruiser. Love love love LOVE sport bikes though. Great honest review without the hype. She's a thing of beauty for sure and you should be a proud man to own her.
I used to be totally against the Hayabusa, because it is very large and heavy. Well, things change when you get a little older. My current bike is GSXR-750, great bike but not a distance bike. 200 miles on it and you feel it, and i always wanted a more comfortable bike with similar performance. I keep looking at similar bikes,(FZ-1, Ninja 1000, and older v-twins like the superhawk or sv1000, maybe even a Hayabusa). I don't ride like i did when i was 25, I'm 40 now and there is no need to impress other people, impress yourself and have fun. I think that is the main reason i love riding. Great review Nutn.
Nutfancy thanks for this awesome review. As a former owner of a 2006 Busa I have to agree with the engine (best engine of any motorcycle I have ever ride in my life, hands down). Only con for me was the height (Im 5' 9''). Also brakes mine came with Tokiko (I hate them) and most important heat engine. In Miami when you drive it in traffic they have the tendency somethimes to turn off by a heat sensor to cool down the engine just wait a couple of minutes and there you go. PS I did all maintenance of the bullet proof engine was simple. God bless and keep them coming dude.
Great vid as always, You may not get views as other videos you make but please keep making motorcycle videos for us. You know the love and passion that us that are addicted to the two wheeled life style have, and we love to see you riding and your "table top" review of your bikes.
Hi Nutn, I'm surprised you haven't tried the convertibars yet. Look em up. Im 10 year active biker. I've had cruisers, sport bikes, classics, fat hogs, and sport tourers. When I found this accessory, I don't think I can live anymore without it on any sport bike or sport tourers including Busas. It should be the next thing that becomes stock for all bikes. Just like what happened to stabilizers, slipper clutch, and disc brakes.
ronnelandrae Doing the converti's on this one would end up hitting the windscreen. When I sized them up it seems real nice, but to accommodate his height it would need removal of the extended windscreen, then the wind bubble is shot, so no more tucking on long trips, etc. In the end he doens't mind tucking for the sprints, he's got it dialed in so he's resting on the tank. Every time I see one of these I want a B king all over again! _TD
nutnfancy Just a reminder, convertibars don't just raise the clip on bars, it can also lower it than stock or just simply bring it farther or closer to the rider. Then there's the angle adjustment also. It's basically an infinite way of adjusting the bars within the given allowable area. It might actually create space for more stuff. Stay safe and keep the rear wheel in the back! Awesome video!
I believe I have missed you twice now on bike threw my town/county in northern cali, SOOO not fair! Even thought I saw you passing on the busa in the other lane but no way to tell for sure.. I would LOVE the chance to bike with you some day Nutn, I don't chime in often but have been a supporter from 2006. (from a other channel of mine). Keep up the great content and may be, just maybe one day I hope to meet you!
Looks as if you took Mines road from San Jose, Hamilton observatory? That's some nice riding territory. No cops for days, twisty for the next 125 miles to Livermore or going the other direction out to the Junction for some old school burgers in the middle of nowhere.
got one and agree love it have the original 99 no governors and goes like hell If I don't want you to pass..... you don't picked up mine 5 years ago with 40000 kms on it and it runs great still
Hey NutN, what's up with the plates you have on your bikes? Oregon on the Busa, Alaska on the KTM, but you live in Utah? Fake plates for photo shoots? Nothing wrong with that, just curious...
Just wondering if you did any bar risers or clip-on mods? I know it's a low stretched position and us old guys don't like to be bent over for long rides usually.
Ghost rider used a Yamaha Vmax not a stripped busa. It also comes with 197 hp. I love the bus but ive always been a vmax fan since my dad brought one home when I was kid in 1985. The 85 model at the time was the fastest most powerful. I would like to see the 2015 model against a busa. Would be a show.
Nutnfancy great review I have a 2013 Busa that came w/those yoshi cans. They were not loud enough for my liking so i put some barely baffled shorty pipes. I had Jardine GP1 pipes on my old 08 Busa. Your right about the top box if your bike was a different color you would look like a futuristic CHiP bike.
I'm an adventure and UJM bike guy and I can't visually tell the diff between most sport bikes, but when a hayabusa flashes past me I know exactly what it is. Fun fact: hayabusa is japanese for peragrin falcon (Falco peregrinus), a raptor that has been recorded going 242 mph when diving on its prey.
Mines a 2004, but I got it for $5,600 and it only had 4100 miles on it. Been using it as a daily driver and have already put 11,000 miles on it myself. 40-50mpg, all the power I could want.
Cool to see nebo loop! I rode that once and it scared me a bit. Not a road you want to push yourself on! Hey nutn, if you get some free time could you showcase your motorcycle toolkit bag? I would be curious to see what you carry around.
there is nothing like twisting the throttle and feeling it role on hard all the way to 200 plus or going to the drag strip and blasting past everything out there! my next one will be turboed though. my 0 to 60' time was 1.3 seconds and that was due to street tire limits. they definitely aren't for any rider but for the best riders only and it gives you the feeling like no other bike will but it was designed to go fast and straight down the road
And on a completely different note, Nutn, I salute you. You sure are living the American Dream. Having fun adventures all the time with really cool toys, a great family. Love the vids, love your philosophy on life, wish I could be your older brother and come visit (a lot). MrGman out.
I had a Busa and a ZX14 The Zx14 has a smoother transmission and better ergonomics. Both were very fast, it was hard to tell is one was faster. Yes the Busa has a slipper clutch
Great review, Would love to see you test ride a Concours 14 (GTR 1400) Nutn, think it might change your perspective on touring bikes - shaft drive, integrated panniers, traction control, more wind protection, perfect riding position & still 160 bhp ;) Oh and I'm 21, I'm old before my time and I love it!
I can relate to everything Nutn says about the 'Busa - I have a ZX-14R. Heavy, turbine smooth endless power delivery. You want a rush...just roll these things open in 6th gear and feel it charge ahead. No good through the twisties though...all that power is worthless - it's just too big and heavy. My buddy on his KTM 950SM leaves me for dead when the road turns tight and technical. Great review "Bro."
What are those decals called and where can I buy them? I am referring to the six decals of vanquished street racing cars on the bottom rear of his "non hooligan" Coocase S48 tail hard luggage bag. Look closely. You will see small decals of street racing type cars with a slash ofer each one. I cannot find these anywhere.
Hey @nutnfancy what tips would you tell someone that wants to get into motorcycling and has no experience in motorcycling. I love bikes and motorcycles are super cool in my opinion. My dad used to have a honda and he sold it. I keep telling I want to get into it but he doesn't agree or wants me to get one. I don't want the bike to be a showoff, I want it to do what you do and travel places and see new things. I'm 17 and I would like to know what advice you gave Last Suspect thank you.
if you are not tall you might want to try getting on with seat cover on to see if you can kick you leg over. it sits a few inches higher than the seat and scuffs or scratches the paint if youre foot hits.
The Busa is a legend, but I really don't like the looks, the feel, or the weight. I definitely prefer 600s and 1000s. Still cool to see them out and about. Btw, a guy down the street from me has a Hayabusa in the same color. I didn't know it was limited edition.
87and66 It wasn't really the top color choice, but they were so polarizing you could basically get them at cost once they sat around for a year. We just chalk the yellow up to 'high vis safety coloration'. -TD
I have never even ridden a motorcycle, I would love to in the future though. So this is coming from someone who would be seen as having no real applicable purposes or "use" to gain by watching this motorcycle review. I love me some guns and knifes baby! Haha But even so, it only goes to legitimize the sinsarity of what im about to say. After watching more then every video inThe Project since 2009, i think the originality along with the fresh, honest and informed way you presented this video. Even when compared to other quality, "game changing" TNP videos. (I use "game changing" with a smile becsude of a video where you ripped the industry for, I think, the unsubstantiated and generous use of the lable "sub-compact" while in reference to pistols". Simply put, I watched this review from start to end twice... in the same sitting. And I dont even have friends with motorcycles that's how unlikely I would enjoy a highly stats driving, epic geekfest version. I have never seen anyone approach a subject with your clear premeditated/freeform revelation into POU and even revelation that that goes beyond the cold plot of the subjsubject. "Information regarding x motorcycle from x manufacturer". Definitly one of TNP's H.O.F. videos in my opinion. Haha to borrow a term from some RU-vid channel I sub to. ;) Thats what you need Nutn, a hall of fame of hall of fame. A repository and perhaps even reviewed in retrospect by yourself as a review of your review. Honestly that last bit started out being a little frosted humor, but as my laughter subsides I realize that it might make for some more "ground breaking" ;) work. I have actually always hoped you would make a "making of a TNP video: How to suck the least... preferably none." Hahs how do you like my title suggestion? Or just a patch (a la "suck less" ) that would just say "SUCK LESS, PREFERABLY NONE" :) :) :) :) I want that patch! :) Suspect!? Why dont you just like go ahead and start sketching up some preliminary graphics to accompany said patch. Be funny, be creative, and dont make it totalky suck. Ok? Got it? Thanks Mr Suspect. Alright, good talk. Chop chop! :)
Lol way off topic nutn' but I'm pretty sure that's the same place where I hooked a 4ft leopard shark once. I'll always remember it because it was the biggest thing I've ever caught and there was a rottweiler dog show going on behind me and they all swarmed me when we brought it to shore to unhook it and let it go. Can't wait till next February when I get out of the Navy and head back home.
I loved motorcycling in California but just had to leave, the writing was on the wall, the bubble was going to break so I left. Now they are up the creek. Ill stick with NC.
Is the limitation in speed a legal limitation ? Is it illegal to modify it to go up to 200 mph like nutn did ? Or the limitation is juste constructor limitation ? (Awesome video btw )
Not a fan. Too big to have fun on, but then, some people have fun differently then others. Was very find of my gsxr 1000, even more so when I turbo'd it. However, the best bike I've ever owned to date would hands down be the BMW S1000RR. Class, quality, and mind boggling power... Truly a perfect bike in my eyes.
The nice thing about these bikes is even if your not as rich as Nutnfancy and can only afford 4 grand for a 2001 Gen 1 model your still getting a bike that is 95 percent as capable as the bike in this video... The original Busa was a remarkably reliable and well engineered motorcycle from the get go... A properly maintained water cooled 1300cc 4valve motor will easily go 100K miles.. These engines are barely working to keep you at 70mph.. As with all Motorcycles, only use full synthetic lubricants and always replace Tires, Brakes, and drive chain with the absolute best items you can afford...
bgmagma10R Yes, the Hayabusa is fast but it's not faster than the 2012-current ZX14R. That guy clearly needed to do more research before making that clip. Power and comfort are where the ZX14R truly shines above the Busa.
My dad drives a Kawasaki Ninja 12R which was at the time he bought it the fastest bike on the public road. Of course he Needed to boost the effect to 210+ HP on the back tire. It tops out at 340+ KPH (211+ MPH) before tuning.. Insanity... He says i can borrow it when i turn 40 and if i have driven without any accidents for 10 years. It'll try to kill you every time you hit the accelerator.
I would ride it but probably never buy one. If i had motorcycle money it would go to a Victory, Indian, or maybe Harley Davidson. I like the hayabusa but it would be too low on my list of bikes to ever get unless I become rich. I recant my earlier statement. You're making me want one. Maybe some day down the line I'll pick one up used if I already have my victory high ball.
