I completely agree with you. I had the pedal some time ago, but sold it again because of the level problem with solos in live situations. Tech21 should have installed a second level potentiometer (in the Sansamp) that is activated as soon as you activate the boost. For a solo, you don't just want more gain, you also want a louder signal overall. Of course, live you can rely on the FOH mixer to do that for you, but I prefer to control it myself.
@@mattysmusicworld746 Yes, strange, all the other FlyRigs, even the Bass Fly Rig V1 has a pre/post button for the boost. Only on the RK V2 this place has been used for the compressor button.
I use this unit since last year, it makes my life so much easier than it was before. Usually I plug it into the pa with the xlr that makes the sound guy happy, my band mates happy and the audience happy. From the quarter inch socket I go directly to my amp that is leaned to me, does not disturb anyone and sounds as I like it. So I’m happy too :)
Love this unit..but t21 "always on cabsim (in a sansamp)" kind of always gives me a headache, at least in theory, simply if its aimed for direct, it will be a blanket over sound when plugged in a real cab.. .i like that fr5 v2 has option of defeating the cabsim on 1/4 output jack....hope that option becomes a standard for t21..also for rk v3 (with all that said, i may be just overthinking, as their always on cabsim is always on on all their character pedals which people use with amps and love it). anyway a great piece of gear this is...and kudos for you for noticing thediscrepancy on what is written in teh manual vs the Kotzen saying he uses sansamp when running frontend of an amp as you have said..thank you for the review
can you make a video that's clean tones where you show how squashy the compressor can get? You really didn't show how it sounds. If you can do this, I would very much appreciate it.
Great review thanks, it would be perfect if it had the dotted 8th delay button that the V2 standard fly rig has. I just bought a used Fly Rig Cali and ditched the MX5 as I don't have the time or patience to get a decent sound out of it, I bought both to eliminate the need for an amp, but the MX5 requires too much twiddling knobs, meanwhile it's all there in the Fly Rig at the touch of a button. Fantastic piece of gear there is definitely something to be said for Andrew Marta's Eastern European upbringing over the Silicon Valley style Line 6/MX5s
I and many others watching found this a very informative review. Lots of details pointed out that are missing in other reviews. For example the Boost is an input Boost not Output, that the Modulation overides the delay. Great stuff Matty, keep it up 👍🏻
