Great insight as to the functionality and usefulness. Earned a sub from me. I spent a year researching sub-compact and compact tractors and wound up purchasing the 424 for many of the reasons you point out in this video. One thing that helped sway my decision too is that the 324/424 have the longest wheelbase and are generally wider than comparable tractors, helping stability on the steep hillsides I have to traverse. The warranty is 2yr/2000hrs on everything and 10yr/3000hr drivetrain. I don't have/need the backhoe so I have no informed opinion on the subject, but I suppose none of the small TLBs would be as good as a dedicated mini-excavator? Yanmar does supply engines to John Deere for their 1, 2, 3, and 4 series tractors and actually built the whole tractor for JD at some point in the past. I've seen people jokingly refer to those as "Yan Deere." The current Yanmar's are designed and built in-house by Yanmar in Japan and assembled in Georgia....I suspect not too far from the JD plant the 1-4 series tractors are built.
Great review, I also spent a year researching compact tractors and I wish this review was around at the time. I ended up with a 424 tlb also and it's been great. You hit the nail on the head by saying it dosen't do one thing great but it does alot of things well. Only complaints for me have been the exposed fan and filter on the bottom, which they sell a gaurd for now. And the gauge cluster as you mentioned. I built a couple backhoe buckets of different sizes that help with the specific job. I made a 8" trench bucket 24" loose material bucket, and a 16" digging bucket. I also fabbed up a thumb that helps quite a bit. Small things like that all improved the performance. That and managing expectations. Thanks again for taking the time to speak the word about these little tractors.
I AGREE, I own one and its very capable, a real swiss army knife of a machine. I have the SA324 which I bought new this year and its stronger than expected on the loader. I would love to see someone build a machine the width of the SA221 a 48" mower deck. I think they could swallow up a big piece of the homeowner market for garden tractors just due to the great reliability of the diesel engine and overall good engineering, the machine is not a throw away unit after 10 years like most garden tractors. I know I will be able to hand this machine down to one of my children because of how well its made and I maintain it myself.
Ive beat the crap out of my 324...Great little tractor and absolutely stone reliable..I have used a bush hog, rototiller, back hoe, box scrapper, scrape blade, furrowing plow with good results. I am a home owner with a small farm and some land to work. Not used in a construction or commercial environment. Like you said, a nice tractor for the money and that warranty!
Great review. I believe you’ll find YANMAR engines in all the major manufacturers except for kubota. They still put their own engines in, Korean made. Lots of great information here. I’ve done a lot of research which is what led me to the YANMAR. I went with the 324 because the specs were slightly better, except for tires. The 424 are slightly larger but it also bumps the price up a grand and I preferred the specs over the couple extra inches of clearance from slightly larger tires. Actually, more than a grand because it also increases the cost of loading them. YANMAR uses beet juice to load the tires. So yea, thanks for an extremely balanced review…just one request…little higher on your volume? My phone runs through my hearing aids and even with that, it was tough to hear. Yea, I’m in…new sub. 👍🏻
Yanmar makes most motors for JD in their sub compact and compact line. also Yanmar Diesel motors can be found in may commercial boats they are huge in marine motor tech and are widely recognized as the industry leader hands down. BTW the instrument cluster does have heat and other gauges but they are idiot lights so you normally don't see them unless something is wrong. Yanmar started building tractors in 1912 so they definitely know what they are doing. I own and run a small dairy farm and have owned many tractors of all makes but I can honestly say The Yanmars I have are far and away the best performer's with the least down time.
Hey Justin ,Great digging. The "Pain of Renting"== 1 week of rental= 2months of "ownership payments ". Every machine takes 250hours to get the "hang of it", and you did great. Sounds like you got your money's worth. Will you buy this exact rig in the future? This rig is what l call "one step up from a shovel & wheelburo". The next size up the Yanmar 435yt is a fantastic "Real Tractor" although 50% more money and more than Twice the Capacitys.
Good points Donald. I hate renting equipment. I’d rather save up and buy, but it’s tough making the financials make sense. I just don’t use them enough right now.
It made a world of difference. Prior to the drains, my drive way and gravel would wash out with every rain. Now I’ve only got one spot I have to occasionally fix after very heavy downpours. It was a great improvement.

Another concrete youtuber ripped dozens of them lmfao why not just lay them in a proper depth ? Not saying you layed that cable there so stupidly but maybe you know why
