A very nice and informative video. I'm just curious. Would the LU2-2 be able to cut through cardboard? For example the standard cardboard Amazon uses for shipping? And how about something like thick paper or card stock? Thanks in advance!
Very nice review! I wish on their website the would offer combo's. Every reviewer get all three heads. It would be nice to have that option and maybe save a Penney or two if more would be purchased. I also noticed no exhaust. Does it get really smelly for a home? Thanks!
Indeed, having the option to add additional tools to the purchase would be great. Ortur does have some great addons and I think you can always email them before you purchase. However, the short or long focus is totally enough. And yes, it does smell. The laser burns and depending on the material it can be quite strong. I kept the window open and it was fine though.
A small cheap aquarium air pump works well, it keeps the area being burnt, smoke free, cools the material and laser. Should cost about $10. Aquarium suppliers “air pump’’will list a wide range but the smallest one works very well. Thank you for sharing your experience with all three laser heads, a great comparison side by side. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 😁👍🇦🇺🦘
Thank you for your feedback! You’re right, I actually bought an aquarium air pump and use it for cutting thicker materials. However, the air from the air pump sometimes can move thin paper. So, I don’t use it that often.
@@thedotisblack - I added a simple (aquarium) valve in the airline to adjust the airflow to avoid what you describe. A lot of experimenting to get things just right is all part of this technology.
Indeed, a valve is a solution for the long focus laser. Actually, I am fortunate to have also the short focus laser without air assist. This one is perfect for cutting thin paper.
Awesome demo, thanks for sharing. I wish we could adapt this module on the AxiDraw, that would be the ultimate tool for translating digital art to the real world!
Yes, I do use one machine and change the laser modules only. If you purchase the Aufero laser, you’ll get one laser module anyway. There is no changing necessary.
The paper is 180gsm. 300 gsm is no problem, I also cut 5mm MDF easily. At 21:01, the white rings are 2mm thick paper that I usually use as mat for frames.
Long focus laser works best for me. It’s good for cutting thick materials. I work with it constantly. The short focus is best for engraving. But it can also easily cut materials up to 3mm and more if you test a little.
👁⚠️ Someone knowledgeable on the drawingbots discord noted this about eye safety: Even at 7 W, this is incredibly dangerous without a full, interlocked, eye-safe enclosure. 7 W will blind you instantly in one eye with just an accidental reflection. Or, if you're lucky, only cause a permanent blind spot or streak.
Definitely! Included are laser goggles, which everyone should wear constantly, together with the safety enclosure around the laser module. I usually place the camera on the opposite side of the enclosure, press the record button, step on the other side and only then fire the laser.
