I have been a pipe smoker for 44 years. I have been storing and tobaccos for 40 years. Of all the hundreds of blends I have aged Red Rapparee is the very best. It reaches it's peak flavor if aged 20 years and left in a tin where it will ferment under pressure. It reaches a complex fruity note with hints of wine and spices.

@@user-mo8df6eb2z It is amazing when aged. The downside it it is a bit pricey as it goes for about 7 dollars an ounce which is almost double the price of most bulk tobaccos. It is a younger persons blend as I doubt I have twenty more years to live though I am glad I saved up a great deal of this in my 30's.

The great thing about those almost historic bends is, they are living antiques. You can as a smoker imagine your self a few centuries back.I bought a Latakia Mixture 1848 by Mc Conell for the holydays, the first bowl sent me right down the rabbit hole to read Jules Verne´s 80 Days around the World. Old historic blends and books are the cheapest time machines on the market.

"Yeasty meat and old moldy wine corks" That's a wonderful description and I have a great idea of what she was trying to get at. My sense memory works very similarly so instead of thinking about specific flavors and smells I think in ideas like "My grandmother's musty basement" "A bucket of rusty screws" or "Chewable vitamins". Keep up the strong work Bradley and Diamond.

One of my favorites, a real hidden gem that I am stacking as a maniac just in case that (god forbids it) it some day gets out of the market. If you think is good now, let it rest for a year in a jar and it’ll blow your mind.

Man I wish Japan had your prices. Here a 50g tin is 2,600 yen (equivalent to $26) plus shipping and a 100g is 4,900 yen plus shipping. If you order it from Smoking Pipes or wherever in the states it ends up being the same price after they’ve added all international shipping and import fees on it which is 15,980 yen per kg. I’m jealous and thinking of moving back to the states just for the pipe savings lol Not to mention the whisky selection.

Bradley, Diamond definitely has a way with descriptions. Loved her take on the room note! Don't agree with her, but given the trite vagueness of many tobacco reviewers, it was refreshing to hear. As for the black Cavendish, to the Brits it is a stoved Virginia, not a steamed Burley. Don't know which type K&K uses, but my guess would be the stoved Virginia, which is naturally spicy and mildly sweet. Gonna get me some. Thank you for the excellent review!

This is a good one. I've been smoking it for the past month. Local tobacconist had the big tin on the shelf and I bought it on whim due to the old-school style graphics on the label. I knew from the first puff this will be one of my go-to blends. It really does make you think this is what rappaarees back in the Williamite War would have been smoking. It's just very good. The room note is bad though. I've had two people tell me it stinks. But it's a very good blend. A classic.

Well, I just had the lucky break of lighting up a Scottish blend to smoke while watching this review. In my case, it's My Mixture 965. I still call it a Dunhill blend in spite of the Peterson name on the tin. Good black coffee topped it off perfectly. Enjoyable review as always. Bradley.

I have been smoking this blend for nearly a year: It tastes delicious! I love it: I love this typically old-fashioned taste it has! But I still wonder if we can define it as an English blend or rather or Scottish blend.. I like blends that taste more latakia generally, so called true English blends with more Latakia forwarded. But how is a Scottish Blend defined? Or what would define this blend as a Scottish blend, if it were a really one?

Thanks for watching! Just as I mentioned in the video, I think it's a gray area, but many people define a "Scottish blend" as an an English that includes Oriental and cavendich.

i was about to make a joke about the smell Diamond stated about this blend, but i do not want you to think less of me! lol sorta wish i could have a bowl with you, as it does not sound like a blend i would purchase. but i will say, i am taking your words into account about sticking with a blend for a while, so my last order was of only ones that i have smoked that i have enjoyed. i will continue to open the blends i have already bought, but i really enjoyed OGS and a few others, so i got them in bulk. thank you!
