interesting how a "boom mic" became a go-to "accidental" v/o mic for many.

Are there any sound/voice distortions from 40-50cm away and 30 degrees axis on Sennheiser MKH 416?

Could you make a head to head comparison between the 416 and the 50?

Unfortunately the 50 was a loan, but if you go back and forth the videos in two different windows you should be able to get a good idea of what both mics sound like.

I'll inquire if I can get my hands on an MKH50 again and if I do I'll let you know and make the video.

Unfortunately, two different takes recorded on different days can only create a partial comparison. Thanks though.

Good news, looks like I'll get a hold of the MKH50 again next week. I'll do a shoot out then!

Thanks for that. Very useful. I see that you don't use the foam windshield. Do you find it makes a difference ?

As long as you don't directly talk into it, it's not necessary. It does make it sound slightly less bright but not significantly. It seems most useful on location but in the studio I wouldn't bother.

Hey there, do you like MKH 416 better than MKH 50 for your voice work?

One could say the 416 "cuts through the mix" more for voice work.
