I didn't even realize the "pret a manger" line was a reference to a British franchise. I just thought Boleyn was speaking french as a reference to the fact that she spent part of her adolescence in France before becoming a part of Henry's court.
Hey Mickey, i just saw Six last night with a traveling tour here in America. It was in Jacksonville Fl. I knew what it was about but had never seen any of your reviews. How you describe this show at the beginning is how I felt. That it not really a broadway show. Its more of a concert. That some what tells a story. My friend that went with me ,loved it. I seen so many shows. I only give it about a 6. The crowd really got in to it.
As far as I know there's no Pret a Manger in Amsterdam, but people do know what it is plus, a lot of people understand enough French to understand the meaning of the words and laugh at that I guess. Also, international tours coming over is not that rare at all, especially Book of Mormon has been over several times because it was a great succes in Holland. As you noticed the Dutch understand English well enough to understand the original productions and we do have big shows in Dutch, like Aïda right now and Pretty Woman and Frozen coming up (also Moulin Rouge has started casting :-))), but as there's not that many Dutch people it's hard to get many shows profitable, therefore these international tours work great so keep sending your people over please!
Love the review! I saw the show in Amsterdam as well, and you’re spot on about Erin Caldwell. She got the biggest audience reaction the night I was there. It was also a different Dutch audience than you see at most musicals in the Netherlands. The audience was much younger, they clearly knew the show and were fans, some came dressed up and the energy was much higher. So it was a unique experience. We do have UK tours coming around to the Netherlands occasionally. We most recently had Book of Mormon, but also Cats, Sunset Boulevard, Pippin and possibly more. There were also English spoken touring productions of We Will Rock You (with singer Anastasia in the role of Killer Queen) and Jesus Christ Superstar (starring Ted Neeley as Jesus). The latter one was such a huge success they added weeks of new dates and even came back the year after. Fun fact about the Dutch: even if we don’t completely understand a joke, if we can tell it’s a joke we’ll usually laugh out of politeness. However, the Six jokes all landed. It was so much fun, I don’t doubt their second run in the Netherlands will be equally successful.
I'm Dutch and went to see the show in Amsterdam last week. Absolutely loved it!! We do not have Pret a Manger here, but I think most of the audience knows it's a British franchise because most of the audience are musical fans and have been to London to see some West End shows. Or just have been to London or England in general because it's such an easy trip to make. Most high-schools here have trips to London in their 4th/5th year as well. So most of us have seen a few Prets😊 I quickly Googled it and apparently Pret tried opening 1 shop in Utrecht in 2018, but it closed a year later because it wasn't succesful.😅
I saw the same Boelyn and Seymour! and you re right Laura and Erin were AMAZING. Love the outlawness of Boelyn. Wish I can hear Erin vocals once more. Best performance of Six I have seen by far. Btw I think the UK tour in Leeds have the rising chair.
I wonder what a Spanish run would look. Katherine of Aragon was Spanish, and I wonder if they would change some of her stuff to sound more Spanish, because she's one of us. Not like No Way with a flamenco arrangement, which I could see the logic of it (Katherine spend some time living in Granada), but as in making some nudges to Spanish culture and history.
Im excited to finally see Six next week. Its been a long time coming but Im sure it'll be worth the wait! I think you should definitely try to see Six in as many different countries as you can - youre off to a good start!
It was a terrific show❤ We get some english original shows, book of mormons, sunset boulevard, cats, etc but it usually just a few weeks and far apart. So more the older stuff😉 Its a different re-acting public as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and reactions.
I saw Six for the first time in Toronto today! Just got back and thought “I wonder if Mickey Jo has any recent content on this” and saw you uploaded this hours ago…what a weird coincidence!
Sidenote: The UK Tour set/lighting is still the original old 2019 version from pre-Broadway, and is the last actively-running production using the old design! They do however have the updated costumes, wigs and instrumental tracks!
Actually that's not entirely true, the Norwegian Bliss and Breakaway cruise productions also still have the old designs including the old instrumental tracks. They close next month tho I believe so then the UK Tour will be the last one remaining.

Omg yaaasssss I love these Six reviews, that’s how I found out your channel existed in the first place after getting into the musical! I wish I could see ANY show 19 times, let alone Six! I would’ve looooved to see Wicked THAT many times! My top places to see Wicked would probably be London, Australia and Japan! 😍
So excited for your review of the broadway production! Just saw it on Broadway last week, first time seeing this show, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts. My production had Aubrey Matalon (enby actor!!) filling in for Ann Boleyn and they were incredible.
Te Aragon line on Broadway, is "remember us from PBS" if I recall. Also means " ready to eat" and I just thought it was a sexual innuendo. I didn't realize that was a reference.
I'll maybe catch it at some point. I'll have a listen to the cast recording. I think I just have this narrow perception of the show as being a glorified pop concert, but I have always enjoyed history as a subject.
The pop concert style is only one side of the coin. It's genuinely filled with content and history and reflection from it's conception and seamlessly interwoven in its construction.
The UK Tour of Lion King does a 5 Month stint in Zürich Switzerland this Fall. So maybe this is the start of more continental Legs for uk tours. Atleast I would hope so.
@@heatherdukeswicked6thfinge318 Lion King plays in Zürich from mid of November to beginning to mid of march with the exact same cast as the uk tour. Six is for 2 weeks in Zurich, maybe you confused it with that.
i'll prob critize how each are portrayed since i love history. so i studied them in school and on my own. thinking the writers were wron about each queen.
