Also, I'm no cosmetic chemist but I would think the mineral oil and kaolin clay were included in the eyeshadow formula for texture reasons. I've heard some people criticize these palettes for cheap ingredients but if the eyeshadows work well and none of the ingredients are irritants for me, I don't care. That's just me though.

I think that being in new York is the reason we got our packages so quickly. this company is based in Jersey city. I have the Saharan and the masquerade and I love them both. Great palettes and I love supporting black owned brands. people need to realize that all new brands will have issues to work out. This brand blew up out of no where so they became overwhelmed with all the orders they were getting and didn't have the technology to keep up with the demand. All great brands went through rough patches

I ordered my palettes from hautelook; while I never received a shipping notification my palettes arrived a week later, which never happens from hautelook. I agree with you people want to bash Juvia's place for a few bumps in the road yet they don't say nothing about the piss poor CS from companies like Too Faced, Jeffree Star, or kylie.

my hautelook palette came in about three weeks - but I got a confirmation and no problems. My too faced order last month gave me no e-mail notification and billed my paypal two times before I inquired- then they took three days to answer my e-mail. I plan to order again from Juvia's Place - but not Too Faced. I find tons of uses for my Masquerade palette, love it more than I thought I would (even though I'm fair).

I wasn't going to purchase from JP because of all the backlash I heard but I'm so glad that I did. I have all 4 palettes and I love them, and the customer service was awesome. Received my shipping information quick and it didn't take nothing but a week to get my order delivered, or maybe less. I find it crazy that so many have talked so negatively about JP but they still buy from these other brands like Too Face & Kylie Cosmetics. As always, thanks for such the in depth review

That is my issue with the bashing....a lot of people were so quick to discredit Juvia's Place but yet Too Faced, ColourPop, Kylie and other brands get a pass. I have had worse shipping notifications from ColourPop, Too Faced and MakeupGeek and had to reach out to get them moving.

I've ordered all of the Juvia's Place palettes after the shipping issues and did not have any problems. I even sent palettes to my aunt in a different state and she got her palettes without issues too. Great review and swatches too! Glad I own the them all.

I order the Nubian II & Masquerade pallet along with a purple brush set in January. I received my shipping confirmation within a day, and my order arrived in timely fashion. When my order arrived I received 3 palettes and no brushes, contacted customer service, who responded quickly, they apologized for the mix up, sent me another shipping confirmation for my brushes and told me to keep the 3rd palette which was the Nubian I. I would continue to purchase, although I'll admit that I was nervous because of all the bad reviews, but I wanted what I wanted and decided for myself that that was their experiences not mine so I felt no need for me to be upset with the company. And the products are great, I'm happy.

Purplelicious That worked out well for you. I want to order from JP because her palettes are beautiful but after seeing the rant vids from Alyssa, Tif and Lisa ala Mode, I never placed an order. This changes my mind. I've made PayPal disputes against Colourpop & Black Opal once for no shipping confirmation, & as soon as I disputed, they sent my products out & I continue to order with no problems from both. I placed a small order with MG & hadn't received any order confirmation or shipping info in 7 days so I cancelled the order. For pricier cosmetics, I stick to ULTA & Sephora because of no hassle returns.

With all of the hype and backlash I was definitely hesitant. However, the quality and price seemed worth the risk. It has to have been the best decision I've made. I placed 2 separate orders on Friday, shipped Saturday, arrived Tuesday. Mind you this was in November and I'm in Southern California. I was impressed. I'm like 4 hours from Colourpop's shipping facility and have to wait at least a week before anything is even shipped to me 😒 I think that the product speaks for itself. Maybe customer service can be sketchy, but you never know until you try.

The YT community really irk me sometime. I've purchased two JP palettes and received great customer service and the product is phenomenal. Yet I heard so many biased opinions about JP yet they rave over Too Faced crappy palettes and the worst offender was Nicki's collab.

Hey, Tina! Glad I got all 4 palettes for $78.50 at IMATS. I opted for the mini palette in the Masquerade. The large Nubian would have changed price to $80 something. I'm pleased with this purchase. I didn't intend to shop their booth, but it ended up being my first purchase. 👌 I think I made out well.

I just got 3 of these pallets in a this week. They were fast! I had my shipping info within hours. I believe they had a rough start. I think once beauty gurus got their hand on the product they stepped up their game so they wouldn't miss a good press opportunity. I love the colors and thanks for the reviews.

I have all except the Saharan. I had no issues with their service although two of my shadows in the Nubian 2 came broken. I just re-pressed them cuz I live internationally so it wasn't worth the trouble. I also opted for the Masquerade mini because I wanted to try out colourful shadows. No regrets here, they have become instant favourites

THank you for the in depth and honest review. I ordered the Nubian II two days and bought the Saharan Blush Vol I and Zulu today. I just got the tracking for my first order and hope all goes well. I feel you 100% I too saw the reviews bashing the company, but I don't just take peoples word for it so I knew I would be ordering even before finding your video here today. New companies will have growing pains here and there and black owned business often have extra hurdles to cross so I bare that in mind. Customer service is a must, but I am so here for what appears to be a great product with beautiful packaging and imagery, so I am glad to take my chances and wish this woman and her brand all the best!

I love Juvia's Place! I have purchased ALL of their products and own ALL their palettes. I have never had a negative experience ordering from them and like you I usually pay via PayPal, get all the email notifications, and always received my items timely. I did create an account on their site, so I don't know if that helps. I'm also an island girl and I LOVE color! Their colors are so bold and vivid! Their eyeshadows last on my skin literally ALL day. I am consistently impressed with the quality of their products and have started giving my other eyeshadow palettes from well-known expensive brands the side eye.

Just wanna say it wasn't just shipping issues, it was the owner's beef with Alissa Ashley and the owner seemingly cozying up to the white RU-vidrs like Nikki Tutorials and forgetting the smaller, black RU-vidrs who were the only ones promoting the brand in the early stages and helped it grow in popularity. After I watched Tifjef069's video on this, I could see where folks would be upset.

Did you see Alissa's video and tweets? I watched her video and saw her outburst on social media and I think they were both wrong. And honestly Alissa was more culpable. She came off as very entitled after CHARGING Juvia's all this time for putting out videos with their products. Perhaps they didn't want to pay anymore or maybe they got a better offer from a bigger channel. This is business and business decisions don't always jive with our emotions. She went into stalker mode and kept hounding the company for free product. If she really supported the company as much as she claimed she could have just bought this new palette and called it a wash. Now the private response from whoever she was testing was UNCALLED for and outright disrespectful. Both were wrong in that case. I do not have an issue with a brand sending products to larger channels who help to promote them....every online makeup company does this. And we can say them same about all these brands ignoring smaller channels....I can add a few to the list who worked with me before and then moved on to larger channels. I think it was tacky of Alissa to air personal messages with the "owner" instead of trying to resolve whatever issues she was having behind the scenes. I can understand her frustration but I wouldn't just jump to conclusions about race. There is NO contractual agreement that requires a company to send products to every influencer on their PR list. Some get every launch, others gets only larger launches, some get a sampling. The choice is left up to the company's discretion. And perhaps she would have gotten the products later as is common. I just found her video distasteful and I was turned off from her immediately. And after seeing Tifjef069's video on the same issue being recycled...I am still not opposed to purchasing from the brand and using their products in my videos.

I'm not opposed to buying from them either. I loved their palettes from the first time I saw them. I haven't purchased yet though, mainly because I live in Toronto. I did wanted to point out that it wasn't only shipping issues since that was the only thing mentioned. I appreciate the response though. I'm new to this RU-vid makeup thing and no one ever has the full story on these issues and beefs. So thank you for shedding some more light on it . This is the longest response I have ever got from a comment and I think it's cool of you to do that. I became a fast fan after watching your "brands I will not be supporting" car chat. I'm always gonna be down for honest, funny entertaining channels, especially from WOC and the Caribbean connection is just extra delightful for me.

Absolutely understand! That's why I asked too because I feel like the second-hand videos don't give the full story. I didn't even purchase from the brand at that point when I saw Alissa going off on them. And if I am honest I would be irritated by her constant push to get the PR products if I were her contact within the company. She was insistently texting her contact back to back and then went into how she "made" them. I was immediately turned off from her. But their response was also very rude but it was a private convo and Alissa decided to make it public. Her intent was clearly to defame them and I don't jive with that at all. I wanted to be clear in my response and not come off the wrong way. I actually deleted the Alissa part of the video while I was editing because I didn't want to stir the pot. I try to response when I get a chance...after all people take their time to comment to me right? :)

Thank you for your honest opinion about Juvia's eye shadow palette. I have my palette and I use it everyday. Some of the AA You Tubers were bashing not just customer service to which I can understand but as petty as not getting an affiliate code from the company...crabs in the barrel is really real out here!!!!!

What happened to me was no damn bump in the road though. Two broken palettes, zero refund. I had to go through my bank to dispute charges. If that happened from ANY company, I'm complaining. No one is asking anyone to find ways to bash the company though. Customer service when it comes to fixing issues is seriously lacking.

The Fancy Face this was early February, and hey, they may have straightened out their issues since, but once is enough for me. I see some people purchased through haute look. I wish I'd done the same. I was fine with the items being damaged as I just expected an easy return, you know? It was the unwillingness to work with me/ lack of communication on returning the product that was my problem. It just took too much. When a company functions via e-commerce, this is one of the main things to handle, online/phone customer service and returns. The product quality is there and great for the price point.

I get it intact across the pacific. I guess the type of your shipping matters a lot.

Thanks for such a detailed, comprehensive review and for presenting the information in an objective way. I was hesitant to try ordering from this company but after your review, I'm giving it a shot...you tell it like it is and these palettes sound like a solid purchase. Hopefully, my experience will be as smooth as yours. Btw, I've read your blog for years and never thought to check out your channel, lol! Your eyeshadow placement blog helped me immensely when I was starting out with makeup. Anyway, I'm glad I checked out your channel because your vids are a welcome departure from most of the drivel on RU-vid...I miss the old days when most reviews were sincere and useful. Very thorough video. Thx. I literally just got all 4 in the mail on Monday. It too 7 days to get to me(I think it's because I had free samples). I purchased 3 in a bundle then the Saharan separate. Used dupethat discount code. Got free shipping spent $92.70 taxes included. So I have no complaints and I love the shadows. I too think that a lot of people jumped on the bashing bandwagon. I think that when it's a black owned company people expect them to cater to ONLY blacks. It's just black owned. Abh did the 3 yt guru palettes and not one black and nobody cared. (Some people had legitimate complaints). I got my confirmation immediately after paying with a Visa card I do think they need to standardize the size of their palettes. I hate they don't all stack up evenly

My friend introduced me to these palettes. She had no issues and she used PayPal as well. I bought it after hearing the horrible reviews because I really wanted to support them. They finally shipped the palettes out after 7 business days. The company took to social media and apologize for the delayed shipping. She also reached out to me personally. They came, I love them and highly recommend them to anyone.

That is such a great experience to share. I feel like they have resolve their issues with shipping and customer service and I am happy to support them. I just made 2 new orders and got my palette in 2 days and 1 day respectively. I am glad that even though they were delayed they reached out and let you know.

I ordered my Nubian palette on Friday and received it today on Monday. I love it, it's my second palette from them. The first being Masquerade palette. I do wish their were mirrors though, especially sense I can use their palette for an entire look. 💕

Girrrll, the "calabar" in the palette actually refers to a state in Nigeria called calabar where they have an annual calabar festival hence why it is included in the masquerade palette as the palette was inspired by "African festivities". Get yo facts! big fan btw

+nessy L the fact is that Calabar is the name of a high school in Jamaica. I wasn't implying that that was the origin of the name in the palette.

I am loving the new intro, the editing and how thorough you were with the products. I do agree that a few months ago a lot of people and RU-vidrs were quick to bash Juvia's Place. I personally own 3 of the 4 palettes and never had any customer service issues. I love your honesty and personality !

I was apprehensive about buying the original Nubian palette bc of the parabens. I have all 4. I love the artwork as well as the pigmentation! Excellent thorough review! Loved the swatches! I agree with you about the bashing bandwagon. I had no problems all 4 x I ordered from them. I cannot wait for the release of the Saharan 2 and the blushes! I reach for these palettes often. ❤

I got the masquerade palette from HauteLook. I LOVE it. I tested it out that night on 10 hour old makeup and it is extremely pigmented! I wasn't skeptical but it was definitely unexpected.

Thanks for this amazing review. I have the Nubian II Palette that I love especially for the shades Morocco, Egypt and Madagascar (gorgeous!!) and I'm going to buy the Saharan which I really really want! They're always sold out online and I live in Belgium but luckily a company of 2 makeup junkies sell the products from Juvia's Place (I already reserved one Saharan) and some other brands such as Kylie, Morphe, Colour Pop, etc that are harder to find here (I mean, we can but we almost always have import charges... That are really expensive!!)

hi tina, I went to the makeup show IMATs on sunday. I went to the booth for this company because I wanted to see if these shadows lived up to the hype. I swatch the nubian original palette but I was not impressed. The swatches were ok. I was looking for matte and satin shades because I have enough glitter/shimmer shadows. I think the palettes are ok depending on what an individual wants. I made it to makeup forever. They had more matte and satin shadows that I wanted. thanks for your time and opinion.
