TASCAM has been a Leader in this Technology for decades, the US2020 is another Trailblazer that runs circles around Focusrite and Presonus IMO. and that built in Mixer is a COOL Plus addition that the other two don't have. That's why I LOVE TASCAM!!
I work with Reason and i have exactly the same plug in that protools or cubase user have but with more flexibility than those software, the Propellerhead guy made a rock solid DAW with no latency problem.
Maybe you already know it, and work in a big studio, but it sounds like you could use some sound treatment of that room. The vocs sounded a bit loud, and there was a note that resonated louder than the others. I like that you brought out some details that others miss, such as the limitations of its ADAT format, and letting us hear it in a whole mix. Nice groove.
You do realize that all the settings on this unit do not require the Control panel manager. All the settings that the Control Panel application changes are in a plain normal text file. So you could easily code your own application to change those settings. Example you can change the interfaces latency settings without leaving the main Mixer panel, just open up the text file where the settings are stored and you don't have to change it in the Mixer panel utility.
How in the world do you record a keyboard directly connected to the interface (not using mic) ? Which kind of physical input should I use on the interface IN1, IN2, IN3, IN9, IN10 ? Which mode should I use : mixer, audio interface ? On Windows only appears usmixer as input, on the recording program, let's say Audacity, when hiting "recording" doesnt receive any signal. I've tested all kind of combinations and it doesnt work : record. I can record from a microphone on IN1, but no IN2. The user's manual is very superficial for this kind of configuration and I've search through internet without finding any explanation.
Hello! Congratulations on the video !!! I would like your opinion on the audio converters of this interface. Compared to a Digi 003 or a Focusrite 18I20, how do they sound? Thanks a lot !!
I find the output setting screen really confusing! I am using the box as a mixer. I'm getting audio INTO the Tascam, but I can't work out to route the input to any output; all I am using is my headphones. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Man, the raw sound is fantastic. Like, I wouldn't mind hearing music naked like that. It sounds great to my ears, and I admittedly do tend to have my elitist audio snob moments from time to time! God bless!
Can you record all tracks at once? I've heard you can with the Tascam US 16x08. I'm leaning towards the 16x08 because of that reason but if I can get 20 tracks I'll go with that.
Thanks for the vid did a great job in my opinion you showed me hands on hands. I will buy one now. Have been reading about some of the other interfaces and some of the downs. anyway thanks.
Nice video! You said it is 3 solutions in one. Can I use all solutions at the same time? Mix a live event, get returns for the musicians and record the independent channels? Can I record all inputs in 96KHz? Thanks!
Great review James! Thanks a plenty. This Celesonic new or a used RME Fireface UFX (1st edition)? I have a slight love for old Tascam gear having owned the 488mkii previously and now a 2488 Neo. I think I might know your answer though ;)
I have the Tascam UH-7000 and software installed on my computer for this device, Am I also able to install the other Tascam software and drivers without any weird side effects do you think? So this device worked OK with Pro Tools? What version was it running on? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Can the onboard EQ, comp and reverb be printed like the Apollo? If so, could you also print a copy that's dry simultaneously? Can't beat the bang-for-the-buck on this unit. BTW, I had the Porta 05HS back in the Paleolithic, lost track four to FSK time code but syncing my synths & drums made it all worthwhile.
I like this alot. however, I wish that it would have a feature that my M Audio C600 has- 3 independent pairs of monitor outs with dedicated on/off switches. This would completely seal the deal with me!
not bad even unprocessed i have the TASCAM FW 1082 works fine and great with the fader, problem it become obsolete now because of this one and the new ASIO driver, the only choice i have is to buy an RME or a Protools for having better but this sound card can probably do the job very well.
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I´m asking for some help and apologize for that. I have Tascam US-322 very simple, Cubase (those within a simple pack i bought brand new), and perfect laptop indows 10. PROBLEM: each track is duplicated when trying to record the following. Ex. track 1 guitar, track 2 duplicates de sound and draw track 1 allowing to record ( a voice as Ex) but unable to diferentiate it from the previous track. Thanks so much again for listening and helping hand.
Friend, a question. I have the tascam us-16x8 but I can't make a salinity mix. Example how I record several instruments simultaneously and can I give more or less gain to the headphones of a specific musician? I would appreciate your help.
this Is a grate review! but I got a general question... why do interfaces have mixing software and can be used as a ___ blah blah when you can use the EQ and such in logic, pro tools ect.. I'm new to most of this and a detailed anwser would be reeeelly appreciated!
Wondering is there a loop back feature? Is there a way to record your pc audio. My current interface (Steinberg ur44) offers that, but was thinking to upgrade to something with more in/out to configure outboard gear.
Nice Video James! I just purchased one of these units as well & would like to use it for vocals but cannot get the Reverb to function? I enjoy having a bit of Reverb while I'm tracking but was unable turn it on. Tascam doesn't have setup videos so I would like to ask you if you can do a follow-up video on the Tascam US20x20 to help us out a bit mate? Besides the Reverb issue the routing is also a nightmare that I could really use some help with. I don't have a clear understanding of the "Output Setting Page" & am finding the manual is sparse in clearly describing the signal flow. I am assuming there are two main routes that the signal flows. #1 The 20 Blue colored vertical lines depict the signal going to & from the DAW #2 The Grey horizontal boxes (10 Line out + 10 digital lines in via 2/SPDIF & 8/ADAT Even after I turned on the appropriate Pre/Post (I selected PRE) switches on the "MIXER" page (#1 Aux for the Reverb Send) I also clicked the Reverb & it turned Blue, then turned up what I assumed was the return knob to blend the desired amount but I still got ZERO reverb back in my mix. I thought there might have been a way to make the word RETURN turn Blue to activate the Reverb but no such luck, it still didn't work. Anyway, you can probably tell I'm frustrated & since I was unable to get this to work have decided to ask for your help. Thank you
Have you figured it out yet?? I'm thinking about buying one since it seems to have no driver issues with Windows 10-but if the learning curve is too high, i'm sure I'll get frustrated. Maybe you can help me by telling if you eventually figured everything out??
i hear a kind of muddy outcome without high end frequencies....i dont know if its the pres the mikes or the processing....i am between 16x08 and scarlet 18i20...its a headeche
optical adat is used with ad/da converters. Look at the Behringer ADA8200. You connect gear into it's inputs, then run optical cable from the ADA8200 into the optical input of something like this Tascam. Depending on your sample rate, you can record all 8 channels. The higher sample rate, the fewer ADAT channels you can record. So the Tascam has 10 analog inputs + 8 from the ADAT if using 44,100 + coaxial=20 inputs
I swear there's a school of evasive answers somewhere I don't know about. Beats me why nobody bothered to mention this yet, but I will. Here's how I found it: Google "multitrack recording freeware + ASIO drivers". Click the sixth link down the page called: "Tracks Live - Multitrack Recording Software | Waves". Enjoy.
You would need to connect an additional unit via ADAT (Optical In/Out). Something like the Behringer ADA8200 can supply 8 additional Inputs and outputs. This is technically called digital I/O and the ones onboard the interface are Analog I/O. This set up expanded is great for running a large setup incorporating a good bit of analog gear. Just remember you need two Optical cables. One for each ADAT connection (input and output).
Hi :) Could I use this for a live monitoring setup, where I plug in all the band to the inputs, but then make a different mix of what's coming in to each output? So For instance, I have a guitar plugged into input 1, bass to input 2 and a mic to input 3. Now I want to send 3 different mixes of these instruments to output 1, 2 and 3. So lets say bass and guitar to output 1, bass and mic to output 2 and guitar and mic to output 3. Is this possible? Do you have the option to send each input with or without effects in a certain level to a specific output? What I mean is lets say input 1 goes -10db to out 1, -3db to out 2 and +3 to out 3. then do something similar to input 2 and 3.Sorry if I'm being a noob. Still learning this stuff :)Thanks!!!
Since nobody answered you, the answer is yes and no. Yes, you could send each track to multiple aux tracks within your DAW and the send each aux track to output 1/2/3 with whatever mix you want based on the send levels to that aux track, but no, you can't do it "live", which makes everything I just said basically useless. What you would want is a separate headphone mixer with multiple inputs so each person can have their own mix, like a Mackie HM-800.
hey Neil, there is quite a noticeable difference between the two. USB 2.0 is the worst out of the common fire wire or thunderbolt. However USB 3.0 the newest of the three and actually gives thunderbolt a run for its money, which is the fastest at the moment. The actual interface itself may use USB 3.0. But, with crap drivers for the interface the latency may be worse then one that is a USB 2.0 interface with awesome drivers. So this also comes into play when talking about latency. If they both had the same quality drivers then yes, USB 3.0 smashes USB 2.0! Hope this helped mate
@@nhdrums2302 You've muddled latency and bandwidth a little there. It pretty much doesn't matter if an interface has more bandwidth than you need to pass a given signal. It either has enough or it doesn't.
Hola muchachos, que características tiene que tener la pc para que esta placa funcione bien y no meta ruidos (tengo una i3 4gb de ram y cuando quiero grabar o escuchar algo escucho con entrecortes o ruidos extraños). Saben a que se puede deber?
+WaveRiderMusic 1.667ms (in), 5.448ms (out)... for me in Cubase. I use 64 samples and 96Khz though, if not then the latency is far too high imo. USB3 does nothing for latency, only for bandwidth. I use USB 2.0 without problems, 3.0 is very overrated and not really needed.
So irritating that every review I see of this are using USB 2 instead of reviewing USB 3 speed. Also, you kept calling it the UA-2020 instead of US-2020....
