+Rotem B Simon Thanks, I appreciate it. I was disappointed by many (partial) reviews I saw, so I wanted to cover all the details for everyone.

Thank you for exampling the contrast between the Small and Medium sizing. This is the only video that helped me truly see a Medium, of probably any brand of down jackets, fitting too baggy. Very thorough and helpful. Cheers!

great review, detailed and comprehensive. I just returned from a Kilimanjaro climb and summited in temperatures of -20Celsius but felt like -40C if I account the wind chill factor. One of my 4 layers was the Ghost Whisperer (GW) jacket and I can vouch for the absolute effectiveness of the Mountain Hardwear GW jacket. I love it and never go on a hike without throwing this 200 gram pouch in my backpack.

This was very useful for sizing. I am shorter and lighter than you, so it is obvious from the video that I need size small. I was not sure if I needed small or medium before seeing the video.

on cold windy days, doesn't the ziperless kangaroo pocket let in drafts across the midsection?

I think the Montbell looks much better on you and has a more sophisticated look.

You could try Cumulus down jackets - i got the same issue: long and thin guy - and I find their closer fit quite appealing..

I'm 6'3" 250 lbs large build, not a fat ass... so grams are out the window for me, I take what ever I can get in my size... sleeping pad long/ wide, 20" pad way too narrow... $ & weight for all of my gear... I bought a long sleeve hiking shirt with roll up sleeves, couldn't get it past the beginning of my forearm... I have a long torso, when I sit down I look even taller... great review in depth... the 3/4" baffles let more cold air in though. go with 1-1/2" baffles

With these down jackets, I think the cost for saving grams is a bit ridiculous. Its just that there are far far cheaper ways to save that weight elsewhere. Its much the same in the bicycle world with people paying hundreds to save weight on things like derailleurs or carbon cranks when you can save far more for far less with smart tire choices. Its really about diminishing returns and, yes, to really get UL you will need to evenually spend because ultimately acheiving UL means counting grams at EVERY level,its just that if you are starting out, its not the best place to look for significant weight savings.

Great review, man! Thanks very much. I'm torn between the Ghost Whisperer (GW) and the Canada Goose HyBridge Lite (HL) though. I'm super picky about the cut and am afraid the GW won't be as fitted as the HL jacket. The small looks much better on you in this review and that's how I like my jackets too. I'm 6' and 175 pounds so I'm not sure if I'd be a small or medium. Have you tried the HL on at all? If so, can you offer any comparison to the GW jacket? The HL jacket fits me like a glove and I wear large in it. Just have never tried the GW one.

Have you ever tried a down vest? Did you find it better or worse than a jacket? Obviously a jacket is warmer but a vest seems more versatile and might just be warm enough...but I don't have a lot of experience.

Thanks a bunch. I'm a fairly skinny 6'2 guy looking for a ultralight down jacket and this video is too perfect for that. Do you normally wear a small [t-]shirt? I usually wear medium (I'm 170lbs) but I also like a more fitted jacket, hmmm. Btw, there's a typo (Hardware -> Hardwear) in the title, might help with search results if you fix that.

Fixed, thx. I wear Med shirts if they shrink, often small if they won't.

Are these jackets just suppose to be baggy in the arms? I ordered a medium montbell and it fits everywhere but really baggy in the biceps. Thank you

Does the Monbell use water resistant down?
@bcstewart89
@bcstewart89 7 лет назад
Most all down jackets nowadays have a DWR coating. The difference is how they treat their down. For example, Mountain Hardwear claims they treat each individual plume with DWR and they say their down is more water resistant. Who knows, though
