As a big Celine fan, I was hesitant to book the show @titaniquemusical .
“Cliché-cringe” was my fear (and possibly on some degree, my expectation).
THE CONCEPT : Celine Dion was on the Titanic (cue “I’m Alive) and with the help of the other cast and crew, they tell the story of Jack and Rose, through ONLY Celine Dion songs.
DOES IT WORk?
Oh…..my….. not only does it work. It WERKS!
This will honestly rate as one of the Top10 shows i have ever seen. I was crying with laughter. I loved every second of the 90 minutes of hysterical, hilarious and freaking brilliant singing and acting by a phenominal cast. Literally, every second i was either laughing or crying with laughter.
Conceptualised by Constantine Rousouli who stars as Jack and who delivers power vocals (with an impressive booty in very tight camel pants - his own joke, not mine), this is a MASTERPIECE in parody. Celine fans will truly appreciate the finest of celine detail they managed to cleverly weave into the show. But whether you are a Celine fan or not, you’ll be surprised how the re-orchestared songs enhances the narrative and how serious scenes becomes comedic gold you just want more of.
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
When the iceberg belts out “river deep mountain high” (yes, an Iceberg sings) and the passengers need to “lip sync for their life” just to get a lifeboat. Or when Miss Molly holds a 🍆 and sings “tell him” to young Rose or when she is on the lifeboat singing “all by myself”…. And don’t forget to see Frankie Grande - yes, Ariana’s half brother - doing a few characters and who steers the ship into an Iceberg singing “I drove all night”
CHARACTERS:
While Celine tries to upstage the other passengers, she is not necccesarily the star of the show. In fact, characters like Rose and Rose’s mom (in a drag role), stole the comedic baton on far too many occasions and i was loving every second they were on stage. Of course Celine delivered an over the top caricature - but it worked. Oh it worked so well!!
I regret not having time to see it again. There’s so many easter eggs to appreciate. Well done to the cast and crew of titanique - Standing ovations deserved!! And prob the best show i booked this trip. 🙏🏼👏🏻👏🏻❤️🧡💚💜💙
