I think Vogue is getting back to their roots in giving us a look into fantastic and glamorous world. I love the cut of the pants that go with the bra top. I agree with you that they should have continued the harness vibe in back. Rachel Comey for Vogue is just one knockout after another. This odd dress is so sweet. Just so many unusual designs that look fun to make and fun to wear.
Vogue is always different yet the choice of fabric will make or break this collection. It feels a lot like reliving the adventures of the late 70s. If in doubt about fabric choices, watch the runways, ladies.
I always love your bewildered commentary - sexy fishing shorts? I love the royal blue dress but it would be a huge project. The DVF wrap dresses are fun and I don't have one with a collar. The white corset shirt looks like a fencing vest. In a different colour it might be OK. The long ruffled skirt is maybe a prom outfit? Thanks for the entertainment, as always.
Hi Lindsey, love your collection first impression vids! Always so relatable hehe. About the scuba fabric dress: I know lots of ladies who love rtw occasion dresses in scuba knit! They look sleek and tuck you in, a little bit like shape wear so you kinda get two in one (dress plus shapewear). I actually sewed up a body con dress (super basic long knit dress pattern) in scuba knit exactly because of that! You should give it a try, I think you'll love it too. And about the sew along, may I suggest V1940?? It's such a beautiful design but I feel overwhelmed by it! Oh and can I suggest a hack to add full coverage to the back too?! I hope you'll pick it! 🙏🙏🙏
It’s not. The pattern would have to have a women’s version which goes up to 32w. None of the Vogue patterns are size inclusive. But I will consider a video on hacking the back of it! Adding it to my list.
Wearing something in your bedroom for the internet is not the same as wearing it in real life! If I ever see one in the wild, I’ll be sure to let y’all know! Haha!
Waterfall sweaters, cold shoulders, capri pants, skirts with diagonal ruffles, and tunics. Hello, 2017. Let’s make V 1949 in denim and wear it to Target.😊
I wish the Rachel Comey was size inclusive so that it could be a contender for your sew along. Would you consider making the pattern and providing a review? Thank you!
Hmmm... at first I was excited to see a lingerie pattern with a slip, but I agree with you about the awkward bias binding construction. Plus they can't decide what to call it... a slip dress or an undergarment slip? As a modest dresser, I am frustrated about the lack of slip patterns and lack of slips in the stores. The only place to find them is in vintage shops.
I really prefer the vogue designers when it comes to mainstream pattern companies but all of the ones I like are straight size. I am like 2X with big bust and belly 😓. I really wish someone on youtube like showed how to take a straight sized pattern and convert+sew it for plus sized person. I also think neon suit with crop top would look soooo good on you for some reason :) I would wear that in the fall or spring just to target.
Thank you! I like that they are giving the Finished Garment Measurements more often, they are essential. Yes to Rachel Comey, and Marcy Tilton, let's picnic! (See thru fabrics are everywhere in RTW, too. Not for me, unless I want to layer.)
I stopped looking at Vogue patterns, it’s boring and I do ask myself, which life style is recommended for those garments. But I love your comments. Seldom heard more not said words from you.
Your insight as always on the patterns is awesome. I liked half of the collection. I definitely think these designs are more youthful. I also think why you were not impressed with some of the styles is because they are close to other pattern design. The halter dress I have a pattern from years ago that looks exactly like that dress pattern. The second pattern with the midriff and pants/skirt looks like the pattern either last summer or 2 summers ago that it was a short/skirt with the top. I agree that the stying is a little off. I personally would make V1956 long sleeve top in white with the V1958 pants in black for a chic look. The shorts of V1958 I agree lose the cargo pockets with that look and fabric choice.
I really like some of these new styles. I really wish they would choose some of the more hip retro patterns. This one is too old church lady style. Even though I'm 63, I'll never be caught dead in that style.😂 V1962: this is definitely a "entertaining at home" style. She definitely has that,"baby, I need you to buy me a new car" look on her face.😂😂😂
The white scuba dress would look great in something a little heavier but breathable, like a stretch wool crepe maybe? But that's such an office dress, not a sundress. I have some (reminds me of ponte, in that weight) that I think would work. Or a nice ponte that would breathe better. I kind of want that structure, but I despise wearing scuba.
Also the button sleeve on the cold shoulder top would be more interesting if you dropped the cuff and hemmed it instead, leaving the sleeve to be open and breezy. And I'd make it out of something crisp and light like Liberty lawn. That would give it a much more summer feeling
And one more comment on that reproduction from the 70s. There's a piece like that at Anthropologie right now. It's got balloon sleeves (this could be hacked to get that) and it's 300 bucks. I might buy this one and try it
Love, love love ❤that white sleeveless blouse. 19:35 But I’ve got a bit of cellulite on my arms now, so I’m tending to stay away from sleeveless, but otherwise, it’s def a style I would wear…very sharp! And I love the pants 👖 25:08 the waist is nice and high…so good for my wide hip, smaller waist pear shape. In a higher-end fabric, those pants could be stunning.
Thank you for the fun and the reviews! The only pattern I would consider is the DVF wrap dress. I saw Diane once in her Miami store, she was fitting someone and waved to me, I was star-struck! I'm not too fond of the horizontal seam or dart in Marci's pattern. Why would you like to draw attention to your tummy, why??
I’m actually loving v1957 the flamingo skirt especially the longer version but I would use a much more drapery fabric, even like a rayon challis in a ditsy floral print and give it more of a casual cottagecore vibe. Even a gingham could be really nice you fou could get a frantic with soft enough drape
Meh. Are any of these patterns big boob friendly besides the wrap dress? Anyhoo, I am looking for a special occasion something - I think the flamenco style skirt could be great in the right fabric. I was waiting for summer Vogue but I guess I’m going back to previous seasons/ years to find the right pattern 🤷🏽♀️I also like the lingerie set but it could mostly be self drafted except for maybe the robe. Thanks for the review!
Boardroom with AC with global warming could explain the mix of cutouts and cropped clothes that are paired with high coverage garments. Would you consider making one of the patterns you loved from this collection as a see along?
That notion makes sense but even with a full jacket on I couldn't wear a crop top underneath at my workplace, unless I kept the jacket buttoned up all day.
@@InsidetheHem what about a Tianna’s Closet pattern? They are free, size inclusive, and some are very cute, but the instructions are just in a web page that has ads and the PDF’s are tricky because all the sizes and the seam allowance line are indicated using the same style line. Nonetheless the designs are attractive.
Going back a season actually helps for Australians. We don't get the new releases in store as fast as Americans and unless we do pdf the shipping is exorbitant
There are a few cute things here. Vogue dresses always suck me in and they are so nice to sew. Unfortunately, I already have a closet full of dresses I don't wear. To be practical, I should just make pajamas. 😂 This person whose lifestyle is to "do special things" please let me know who they are so i can be their friend. I want to wear these fancy clothes somewhere. It's strange to me that when these companies restructured they didn't move the weird Marcy Tilton patterns to another label (sorry I hate patterns.)
59:28 Corderoy? I think whoever is in charge of editing the fabric suggestions or guidelines is just not doing a final look over to make sure the fabrics listed make sense. I can’t imagine any of these descriptions are originally written…like someone at a computer typing them all in from scratch. No. I’m sure there’s some sort of algorithm for the fabric descriptions that can be customized. But no one who knows is doing a last check before sending it all to the envelope printer. ☹️
A few of these are cute or classy....but not for me and my over 50 self to "run to the store" or "casual work" fashion. IF i were younger, I'd definitely consider v1961 with the skirt/shorts...for funsies. I live in the desert & HATE pants.
The execution of the zipper in that broad top is not well done. There must be a better way to close the back of that bra. And why not give us cup sizes for that pattern?
I dunno, I think that neon green blazer is too big on her. The Badgley Mishka is reading classic 1950's to me - but I'm with you, too hot in a scuba. Maybe a stretch sateen? The Rachel Comey looks like a butterfly. That in a bright, bright color or one of those rainbow-ey kinds of big prints would be stunning. I love Marcy Tilton but this whole set seems just a disappointment to me with her penchant for creative lines. That jacket just reads waterfall front and that's just an old enough thing to not have been long enough to bring back yet. And Old Lady pants. Nope, sorry Marcy. That skirt. Fabulous. Love love love that. Do it in a drapey challis print and wedges and a tank and big market bag and you're Target ready. I do like the Tom & Linda Platt but honestly it just looks like way too much work into such a simple dress. Skip all that organza petticoat nonsense and get one on Amazon. "Look at her face. She knows. She's like I. Am. Rich." 😂 Or great for bridal with white and alençon lace. Very pretty. That 1970's dress is interesting but something that as you probably agree, after years of sewing you're pretty sure would turn out to be a total disaster. Yep, more misses than hits but at least there are a couple of things. xox
