Love your videos Sam. Have had so many people around that haven't a clue and even as a layman I am confused enough to question their logic and they can't provide a scientific answer for what they're saying. You are the only person I've heard talk any sense! Thank you

Love your videos keep up the good work. With the moisture meters, what if it’s just condensation on the walls. Would it not just read as the wall is damp? Or in other words… Would you have to make sure that the condensation problem was sorted either by having the property empty or a dehumidifier to get a true reading of dump on a wall? (assuming there’s no underground source of water or leaking pipes)

That’s where experience and good survey work comes in. You follow the trail as a great man once said

What makes me laugh is, the guy in the hoodie is that chav property developer from birmingham, where every other video he mentions that he's a millionaire, but he's employing people like this lol

At least he read the meter, our maintenance 'surveyors' are absolutely useless and obviously don't have a clue how to interpret them. I was at a job on Monday where one of them wanted the plaster hacking off in kitchen up to cill height on a small wall and then replastered. He supposedly used his meter and said it wasn't damp. I got there and asked a few questions of the tenant who confirmed it had been a downstairs wc which they had moved upstairs. The gutters had been previously blocked/damaged leading to brickwork being soaked. There were clear indications of staining mid way up the wall on the sand and cement render where chemical damp course had been injected and rendered with waterproofer in. I removed skirting and found old waste pipe, probably from whb, cut back and left in wall, hole where overflow would've been stuffed with tissue paper and plastered. Brickwork pieced up poorly with numerous gaps in mortar joints. It had the cotton based loose fill insulation in cavity that's been found to cause damp issues. Render bridging the new damp course with the bottom 2 course of bricks wet through, with signs of damp on higher level brickwork. The door reveal had boards dabbed on them touching the outer leaf of brickwork with boards wrecked from moisture from brickwork as well as touching the concrete step in the doorway. Also wood decking outside above original damp course with bricks drilled/injected sitting basically just on top of decking level allowing water splash to bypass damp course injected. These clowns are on £38k+ per year to put a protimeter on the wall and say "It's not damp" so just replaster it - of course it's not on the surface, it was the brickwork behind the render that was damp which he could of found had he actually surveyed the job instead of just looking at it 🤬

Mate, out of the local 'Damp proofers' here that live local and the surrounding area, 90% of them are fecking mickey mouse. Why else do you think i subscribe to this channel? Damp proofing and cowboys, go together like steak and chips. Rife with the c*nts

The worst thing about the trades industry is those tradespeople who try and win work or look superior by slating other tradespeople. I'm yet to meet a tradesperson who doesn't immediately think they are better than the one before. Perhaps the theme of their video was not to put out a 60 minute crash course on damp proofing but just a high level overview and a broad generalised idea of damp and its treatment. There are so many nuances in damp that you can't go into huge detail in a 10 minute video. The guy was clearly nervous and stumbled on a few words which doesn't require him being jumped all over and it certainly doesn't look like it was scripted so I think they just threw the questions at him and he had to answer them on the spot. He obviously knows how to use a mositure meter too as he stated the meter indicates green, orange and then red etc which as you know is dry, at risk and wet. Interpretation and investigation thereafter. Maybe the average youtube watcher doesn't need to know whether its a WME meter and that under 17% is this, and 17-20% is that etc. Perhaps they just prefer simple colours. Clearly as a damp expert yourself you know these things but the video wasn't aimed at you. Also without the aid of seeing the property it's impossible for you to assume you are right with anything and he is wrong. How do you know the chimney isn't vented at the top, how do you know the salts weren't neutralised on the breast and cheeks and so on. It wasn't a before and after video, it looks like they just jumped in to make a video half way through a job. Not everyone is comfortable infront of a camera. Enjoy your day!
