I've played the sands trilogy, the reboot, and the sands spinoff (aka forgotten sands). My favourite... Though pick between TWW and TTT then the reboot closely followed by SOT... Dvd then there's the FS... It wasn't bad... But I don't quite get how it's it supposed to actually fit into the rest of the series (logically, apparently it's supposed to be set between SOT&TWW) but it doesn't quite fit for me, at least
@@click4gameplay Yeah, you hated that game too hard. I played all of the pop games including the handheld versions but 2008 is the only one I come back to yearly. It's a stress free experience haha
@@axm4643 To be fair, it wasn't a Prince of Persia game, they should have named it something else. The story was great towards the end as well, sadly no sequel
The sands trilogy are some of my favorite games of all time. The way they did parkour was just really cool and fun, combat was also quite good, especially in warrior within and two thrones.
I absolutely adore these games and WW is the reason I am into metal music. However, I cannot agree with the fact that Two Thrones does not have level design issues. The game was cobbled together within the last months of development as they wanted to make an open world game in Babylon called Kindred Blades. For example some of the early rooftop levels were for that purpose. Maybe it is not noticeable on one playthrough but A LOT of stuff repeats. The corridor where it's wallrun - knife in vent- jump, wallrun - knife in vent - jump is repeated like 10 times because they did not have a way to connect all of these pieces made for an open world, that had no connections. Another example is how at the beginning of the game, the Prince gets the dagger, then falls down the Palace's sewers - the Palace that it is in the city, one of the most important buildings - but he then ends up OUTSIDE the main walls. I love the game and it is still amazing what they managed to pull off with so little time...but it pisses me off that this is one of the earliest examples of Ubisoft management fucking a team up with deadlines and shit so hard...I would like to know what the first idea was. It is why the game is so short too.
I just replayed sands of time classic a few months ago and it still good, you can just ignore enemies and keep the path to save time. For warrior within replaybility all enemies have the same aggresive i.a. no matter the dificulty it only changes the damage and health bar. For a quick challenging gameplay i prefer to play it on easy without any health enhancements, that way everything is more fluid. Two trones is my favorite game and in hard is a little spongy but just a little so you can enjoy it at that, or just play on normal with no life nhancements.
Fun fact, there are four completely different games named Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands - on for main consoles/PC, one for Wii (that one is the most interesting one), one for PSP and last one for DS.
Fun fact: the design of the prince in warrior within ended up inspiring the characterization of "David" in a biblical brazilian telenovela. is pretty funny to see a guy dessed like the prince on my TV.
Currently replaying Prince of Persia 2008 and i disagree with pretty much everything. Elika and "prince" dynamic is easily best part of game, dialogues are pretty fun without being too cringe, reminded me of The Mummy type of writing. Combat is different from previous games but i wouldn't call it bad, it's more of 1 on 1 slow duels which can feel repetitive, but game not based around combat, platforming, chatter and battles are all well balanced, so no segment drag for too long. My only problem is actual Prince of Persia title, it only makes game being compared to previous games, ubisoft should've call it Legends of Persia or something and market it as spinoff instead of reboot.
Couldn't beat warrior within as a green lad because Dahaka terrified me. And as a man i could never get on to it. Think of it i only beat Two Thrones and the two reboots
PoP 2008 was by far my favorite in the franchise. the cel shaded graphics, the atmosphere the music and the overall vibe were amazing. the combat was pretty good as well and never even cared if it was easy.
I think that Sands Of Time was that cool father who played video games. Two Thrones was that emo/metalhead friend who always smoked weed and partied all the time, Warrior Within is basically you when you mature and go to college! Anyone else feel this way?
And I think that if Ubisoft played their cards right, they could have reset the timeline/games and turned them intro a triple AAA game with semi open world like GoW 2016.
2 thrones in first place? Hm... I played these games on release and was a big fan of the first and second games. But 2 of Thrones promised to be a completely different game. When it came out I immediately saw degradation in camera control and level design. in the sense that the game has become super linear, although before the game was released, Ubisoft promised free movement throughout Babylon! Acrobatics and combat system became less creative than in WW. Even the graphics and model of the prince became somewhat choppy. In general, I like the Sands of Time trilogy, but 2 of Thrones was somewhat of a disappointment and a step backwards. POP1 SoT - 9/10 POP2 WW - 10/10 POP3 TT - 7/10 POP 2008 - 6/10 POP FS - 7/10 POP TLC - Fortnite/10 R POP - 10 cent/budget There are more mechanics in the first and 2nd princes that you did not discover. - There was a counter-punch after a block from the very first prince. - Also in the first prince, you can finish off enemies not only on the floor, if immediately after jumping over an enemy you hit once with a sword and the second with a dagger, then the prince will devour the enemy while standing, immediately at the end of the jump. - in the second prince there are many ways to control the crowd and jump over heads, from the enemy through and immediately from, etc., make deadly grabs, various blows from the wall and after running up the wall, 2 types of blows around a pillar, etc. The combat system is the most varied and free, creative, almost like in a slasher film. - The problem of Backtracking in the second prince arises only if you do not understand where, how and why you are going. On my first playthrough, I also got lost on the map. But the second and subsequent passages I never got lost and did not pass through the same place 2 times in vain. - In 2 thrones, there is practically no creativity in combat. In acrobatics too. There is always only one linear way to go further along the linear path, more scripted moments. Having received a sword of light at the end that kills everyone with one blow, speed kill systems (stealth kills) become absolutely absurd, because... at the end of the game, difficult enemies require a lot of QTE hits, and it's easier to just walk up and hit 1 time with the sword of light, instead of QTE, it's weird. In general, the game was heavily cut up and it’s noticeable. - On the contrary, I like the dark aesthetics and chic music of POP2 WW. + there was a bloody dismemberment there! and at 2 thrones she disappeared again. :(
Lost crown is an underrated masterpiece with gorgeous score, visuals, atmosphere, combat, basically everything except a coherent narrative… but on the bright side it’s inspired a few very interesting Reddit threads
Warrior Within to this day still is one of my all time favorites. It actually was my favorite for the longest time. The combat was mind blowing and flashy, the atmosphere was dark, moody and chilling perfectly capturing what it was actually trying to be. Of course the last thing that cemented it's legendary status in my eyes or should i say ears was the music. Of course it was not without it's faults nothing ever is but as an overall package it was one of the best. Lastly that flashy ability with the crimson screen.... It's pretty useful if you want to get the true final ending. Cough... Kaileena is not the real final boss... Ahem. PoP [2008] was basically what God of War is today. Cinematic and simplistic. Just not as well executed. And on a lesser budget. I haven't played the Rogue Prince yet but PoP from [2008] is definitely the weakest official entry. Though not without it's merits.
i was playing sands of times as a child i was 5 or 6 back in the days, and i have to honestly say i only played the beginning, as soon as the sand monsters apeared little me got scared and instalty shut down the game again and agian so i played the intro like 500000000 times
I had just wrapped up playing all the main TR games and tried to jump into PoP, maybe burn out or something but I couldn't even get through Warrior Within. It's been 4 years so maybe I'll give the series another try.
I loved the original trilogy. Especially War Withing! Man when the intro started with that hot girl, music, combos everything was dark and edgy... I was sold right away! But god damn I got lost a couple of time with all the backtracking and at times losing the offhand made fighting enemies a drag, felt like you did zero damage to trash mobs. Then came Two Thrones with the dark prince uuuuu damn that was good. Great trilogy, really loved it. I still listen to the music from these games haha. Nice review mate.
Thanks for the nostalgia! It's interesting how everyone perceives those games differently. My favorite is the Sands of Time, it felt the most vibrant and the simplest one - not in terms of difficulty but in terms of purity and enjoyment. The Warrior Within I remember beating (breaking the left stick on my controller in the process) but its edgy aesthetics and that 'Look, it's dark and bloody now!' thing didn't appeal to me. It might be partly because I worked as a PR guy for a local software publisher at that time that was officially localizing and publishing Ubisoft games so I was kind of fed up with Warrior Within before its release. And the Two Thrones I haven't even finished. I got it for Wii - and it looked so abhorrently ugly there and controlled so poorly I couldn't keep torturing myself. Looking at your footage now I can see how it could look - but even now it kinda looks even worse to me than two previous installments. I probably got traumatized by its horrible looks on Wii a little too deep however many years have passed (more than 15 now, man, time flies...). The rest of them I didn't even play.
Seeing a youtuber flex in his video is nothing new, but its the 1st time I see it being so litteral (13:50) XD The warrior within's intro is peak "goth teenager". Such a drastic change from the 1st one.
Oh man, the sands trilogy. Every one of them best at a different part of the game. Sands had the best characters and dialogues and I liked the soft shaded style. WW had the best sword combat (although the chain from TT is better) and I actually quite enjoyed the metroidvania-like design of the palace. TT had the best platforming and most variety in gameplay. In my heart I like the first one the most, but in terms of gameplay TT wins.
It's a great metal ost for sure, and I played it through the entire segment of WoW. But I also found it a bit annoying while playing, since it going crazy even when nothing is happening.
Nice, Playing PoP SoT right now. And I have to play it with M+K, cause my controller wont get recognized by the game as well (maybe because of some texture mod, the widescreen and resolution mod and some other tweaks, but most likely because the controller is too new). And while I think the game has a pretty good puzzle design and a decent story, the controls are godawful and the combat is soo bad. Yeah, maybe there were way worse controls in games in the 2000s, but I was a bit too often very frustrated. I deeeeeeeeply recommend a controller if u get it to work.
Good games, used to play the trilogy numerous times in czech dub when i was a kid, later in english. Tried the first restart game too, it was nice. Never touched the new one, it's disgusting and i am glad it flopped.
pop 08' doesn't really have a story it is more of an Elika character arc you tag along to. platforming is chill, and the combat is more of a free form qte. fine game not the best but not the worse low b for me
58:50 because Ubisoft has managed to completely erode any confidence people have in them, and the game's marketing was kind of bad Plus a lot of people reacting negatively to it from the get go poisoning general perception of the game. At the least that is why I expected it to be bad at first myself. speaking of bad marketing... did you know a DLC for it just released? like, its actually out? yeah, Ubisoft is doing a shit job of marketing it (big surprise)
Honestly before launch I was seeing ads for lost crown everywhere and i feel like they promoted the hell out of it. Maybe that’s just because I’m into that genre and the algorithms feed it to me. I don’t think it failed completely because of marketing I just genuinely thing it’s a genre that people aren’t into anymore which is kind of sad
@@joelsytairo6338 I am also extremely into the genre, and know a bunch of people who are and you got really lucky with the algorithm me and my friends saw nothing up until release. or maybe we all just got really unlucky.
