Hi Friends
I’ve seen some Wits students graduating and this got me thinking about my journey and have decided to do a quick “review” of my Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems.
This is just my views about studying and how I felt.
Reviewing my information systems degree. Is studying worth it , my overall experience and would I recommend my degree to a friend.

Hi I did mathlit(70%), economics (60%),accounting(70%) and business studies (80%) in high school. Is it possible for me to do information systems in university with those subjects

Some universities may require pure maths BUT go on the university website and look at the prospectus and see what the requirements are. Your marks are very good so check each university prospectus some may not look for pure maths or they offer bridging courses

Yes it can , you can also take some free data analysis courses online to increase your chances but definitely the degree can.

Just go to the Information systems faculty and they’ll be more than happy to assist you. It’s was not a difficult process for me so hopefully it will be quick and easy. Good luck

I'm interested in information systems engineering but I find it so difficult to find enough information about it, especially in South Africa. do you know about any university in South Africa that is offering an honors degree (major) in it? And also how does it differ from system analysts?

Some universities like UJ may have a bridging course but you would have to find out from your institution and other institutions what the process of switching be

I think it’s the other way around, you can take information systems when doing computer science but that’s Wits. You would need to find out at the university you attending

Yes first year accounting is basics and there are a lot of people who have never done accounting before attending the class

Depends on the other modules you choose but it’s majority theory then you also have accounting and statistics

I won't lie Information Systems at NWU is the best in the country their program gives in more then what I expected

I’ve worked with people from both institutions and there really isn’t a difference once we employed. Maybe consider university rankings and location of university to see what would make you comfortable.
