I LOVE videos like this from you. Just love hearing you talk about books. You're the only person I support on patreon cause I just can't get enough of it 😄 So many of the books I've read in the last few years have been because of you.
I also tend to get swept up in all the new releases, but for me, that's because they are easier to find, like you hear about them, they are on all websites and you can kind of browse them a lot more. Backlist titles are harder because you kind of have to dig a bit more to find the ones you are interested in.
Had to pause the video to excitedly say, I played that lion king typing game too! 😂 it was so good, and I thank it for my good typing skills. I always tell people at work about it and they look at me strangely so it’s nice to hear someone else talk about it P.S. love your videos
Love hearing your thoughts on books. I've been watching your vids for many years now and I could listen to you all day! So eloquent, honest and thoughtful. 🩷
Ugh...I dont have 36 minutes...so will have to come back to finish watching. Always love seeing the things you have read...as most of the time you are reading books i haven't heard of👍. Hope you do another video on rereading books...and whether you still like them!❤
I really enjoy filming and editing them too :) I need to get my read on so I can do them more regularly 😄 I'd love to hear your thoughts on them if you get to them as they're such great family dramas!
I’ve followed your reading of Vermette’s novels and am so pleased you love them. I lived in Winnipeg for many years and think of it as my heart’s home. Great wrap-up! I have Evenings and Weekends and plan to read it soon.
Thank you for another lovely video! 0:56 I also love my lists, but ignore new releases. In South Africa, many new releases take months to arrive here, and by the time they do, I've already heard European and US booktobers talk about them. That makes the selection easier for me😊. I normally have a tbr of between 50-100 books, none of those are new releases. When I go over 100, I start deleting titles or stop adding new ones. Most booktubers that I watch read backlists and I don't think you need to read mainly new releases to attract subscribers.
Brilliant synopsis of these books, per usual. Bummer that Winter Animals messed up the ending, I wanted to read that one. However, it’s also been hard to find it here in the states so I guess that works out! I’m still intrigued by the writing in Whale Fall and will read it when my hold eventually comes through ❤
Really happy to see someone pronouncing Irish names correctly. Rarely see non Irish people say Caoilinn the right way. Obviously it’s fine if people make mistakes but a lot of people don’t even try to say it right. A tip for Oisín is that it’s said “USH- EEN” 💗
Thank you :) I checked both names in pronunciation videos before to make sure. I was a bit confused by Oisín as some people said it was pronounced one way and some people said another so thanks for letting me know!
Love a Mercedes rant review 😂. Is it bad that I want to pick up winter animals after hearing your review 😂. Evenings and weekends is next on my list on audio.
i had the lion game too! some of these books really strike me. I'm sort of curious about a few. I dont know when they'll get to the US though. Great vidoe!
Pretentious w**k 😂 Great video. I got the impression though that many of these reads are quite taxing and that reinforced your opening for me about the enjoyability. Evenings and Weedkends sounds good I wonder if the front cover claim of it being Zadie Smith-esque fits - did you get that vibe?
Sorry for the delayed reply. Hmm, I think the themes of Evenings and Weekends are similar to the themes that Zadie Smith explores plus the location. The writing isn't like her style though.
Mad how many of these let you down with dodgy sections or completely switching tone near the end! Also read Evenings & Weekends recently, and I enjoyed it but not really as much as I hoped to. Interesting that you compared it to Wilson - for me it was kind of a less annoying version of Cleopatra & Frankenstein. But I really didn’t get on board with some of the wild character decisions near the end.
Yeah, it did seem like some of them were going to be brilliant and then went in a different direction. That's funny. I recently dnf'd Blue Sisters as I didn't get on with the authors writing style. I think it must say something about me that I didn't think the decisions at the end were wild at all 😅
I've watched several of your videos and i enjoyed listening to you about books, but someone using swear words really puts me off, so after you did at about 13th minute i decided to DNF this video.😐
